46% from three and 62% overall. They have absolutely got to cool off from the second half or yet another chalk it up to the zips just catching somebody on fire again.
-
Well at least SportsNation thinks that we'll have an interesting tournament.
-
Good God unless the zips start buckling down they're going to give up 50 in the half

Northwest Ohio is kind of snakebit in the tournament. Even Toledo has only won it once and that was the first year, in 1980. Toledo and Bowling Green have each made it to the tournament finals four times since then and have never won it. Ball State has won the most at 7 championships but their last one came in 2000. The East has absolutely dominated the tournament since then, winning 16 of the 19 in that time. Every East team except BGSU has won it during that time (but MIami should be in that winless category in that time frame, grrrr, still mad. Doug "f*ing" Penno ? ?).

ESPN has predicted the winners of all 32 conference tournaments. While I am sure they would have put a lot more effort into it for us had we been named BIG-MAC or MAC-12 or something, they did select Akron to win it and it was unanimous.
-
You are correct that is the one I was referring to as pretty much holds all the tiebreakers, but even with that one, just having CMU finish ahead of Toledo doesn't even do it, there also have to be some ties in the middle of the pack so it's pretty unlikely. But yes, possible.
-
Boils down to this now - Zips have clinched the #2 seed and the only way they can get to #1 is winning one more game than BUGS. Unbelievably BUGS pretty much holds all of the tiebreakers. Aww, you know what, let them have the NIT, as long as we get the NCAA ?

By the way did anyone know LCJ surpassed 1,000 points in the loss to Blowing Green. He has done it in under two years with an average a little over 16 ppg. I knew he was approaching it but hadn't heard a thing about it. 46th player in Akron history. Congrats LCJ!

With both the men and Women indoor track teams finishing higher than Kent, the Zips have retaken the lead in the Wagon Wheel Challenge, however with two sports that are new (or new again) this year in sports that Kent tends to be very good at in women's lacrosse and baseball, we should demand Kent add men's soccer and women's swimming and diving to even the odds again. ? It's currently 4.5 - 4 with the following sports to go: March 6 Men's Basketball March 25 Women’s Lacrosse March 28 Softball April 1 Baseball April 24-26 Women's Golf MAC Championship April 28 Baseball May 1-3 Men's Golf MAC Championship May 14-16 Men's Outdoor Track and Field MAC Championship May 14-16 Women's Outdoor Track and Field MAC Championship With Kent likely taking golf, baseball and women's lacrosse, and the Zips taking T&F, Zips need to win the next basketball game, and softball just for a tie. If its a tie it stays with the current school which is Akron.

MAC Player of the Year (Subtitle: Hey MAC get your sh*t together :-))
MDZip replied to MDZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
MAC website finally appears as though they have all of LCJ's stats for all games included in the overall statistics, and have added him back into the conference only statistics but still only have him playing 12 games in conference. If you only include 75% of LCJ's games then the race for player of the year is a lot tighter. ? -
That's a tough audience if you're going to give up on a team after its first losing season since 1992, in a year when they still won the MAC, and have been to the College Cup three times in five years. I don't think I'd give up on them quite yet ?
-
Walter Sylvester Gamertsfelder, for whom Gamertsfelder Hall was obviously named. I'm pleased they decided to locate it by Washington and Jefferson Halls. ?

We also want to steal Ohio's land. If you've never seen it there's a Reddit topic where they assign every county in the country to a college basketball team after you win and claim all the land that the team you beat currently has. It all starts with the counties that are closest to you at the beginning of the season. For some reason Ohio has a bunch of them right now including in southern California, Texas, New Jersey and Buffalo, NY. Take their land!

Things I like about Ohio U. Jeff Boals (wish he would have stayed at Stony Brook so I could continue rooting for him wholeheartedly) Beautiful campus including a building that was named after my great uncle who was president there in the 40s. Fantastic rivarly we have developed with them over the years. Passionate fan base which helps the MAC and our rivalry I respect they feel the O-H-I-O was stolen from them by Ohio State and the Bobcat "voiced" the disrespect by tackling Brutus during a football game Things I don't like about Ohio U. They are still Ohio U ?

MAC Men’s Basketball - Catch-all Thread
MDZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I saw a crazy stat on the BG board that despite being 12 and 4 they have been outscored by two points in conference this year. -
I can't find a single scenario so far that would give the Zips the number one seed if they finish tied with Blowing Green. So for the number one seed the zips must finish with a better record. The good news is the Zips last two games are at home and BUGS (who just got thrashed by last place Miami today) must go to Kent and play Buffalo.
-
Looks an awful lot like what we're likely to see a lot of on Saturday.
-
So if you add up all of the numbers he is 32 for 100 on threes so just a little under his career rate so he has reverted to the mean (and I suspect if you go back to the beginning of the year when he was also shooting well I'll bet his average would go up a little probably putting him right around his career rate). I guess we shouldn't be that surprised. But now that he's there I hope he continues to shoot at least his average rate.
-
Been playing with the simulator and cannot find any scenario where the Zips finish lower than the four seed at long as they win at least one of their remaining games (and several where they could lose two of three and still end up as the second seed). But if we finish tied with Blowing Green there are very few scenarios that give us the top seed now.

Games 11 and 12- DC Holiday Hoops Fest Tournament

Completely agree. If Akron is your best win you are not getting an at-large. -

From an ESPN article about bubble teams and Liberty's chances. The Flames haven't lost in nearly a month, keeping a spirited at-large candidacy alive and running their record out to 26-3. In NET terms, the best win on this profile is a neutral-floor victory over Akron. If that doesn't sound sufficiently impressive, keep in mind the Zips really might be the second-best opponent this team has faced. (The best was LSU, and Liberty lost in Baton Rouge 74-57.) -
Going to be a tough one, I don't love the Zips chances with this being in Buffalo and the Bulls being an excellent rebounding team, but I am amazed that the ESPN matchup predictor still favors the Zips.
-
Sky isn't falling, if we can win just one of the final three (and two of the three are at home) we are almost certainly the two or three seed and it probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference which one it is. To make the one seed it's looking like we have to beat Buffalo and I'm not confident about that. 2 or 3 is fine, and I like our chances in Cleveland if that happens (and would be nice if the Bulls keep the 4 or 5 seed).
-
At least there's no quit. But this is just Bowling Green's night Zips having their worst offensive performance and it doesn't have that much to do with the Bowling Green defense
