For basketball, The Convo is too big. 9,000 would have been perfect. For graduation, it's about the right size. But yeah, it's a big place. Even 10,000 looks more empty than it should.

I don't know anything about any schedule, but I heartily recommend Casa Nueva for dinner. Small place, but everything is local and reasonably priced. One of the things I miss most about Athens. Just get there early or be prepared to wait for a seat. If you're in need of a drink, Jackie O's has decent food and a more than decent in-house microbrew.

Really big game Wednesday. And I agree, the pressure is on Ohio. They haven't won a regular season title since Gary Trent was in the green and white and an Akron win changes the dynamic of this rivalry. And as much as OU fans like to puff their chests about attendance, I don't see 10,000 going to a Wednesday game. 13th all-time in assists and he's a ball hog? What does that make, say, almost everyone else?

People nationally don't think about MAC basketball.

They will most likely end up with the 4 or 5 seed, which means they'll face the #1 seed in the semis, given they make it that far.

I don't recall too many OU students caring about Ohio State basketball during my time in Athens. The McDonald's thing was a one-time promotion, though they've given away food from various artery cloggers in different games this season.

Except that doesn't bear out when you look at attendance figures for other rural areas and attendance figures for urban areas (who is #2 in the MAC? It isn't NIU!) and the fact a large percentage of attendees of Ohio games drive down from Columbus.

The committee judges teams, not conferences. Murray State would've been an at-large team last year out of the OVC.

Most voters will only see the scoreline, so it's gonna look better.

I hear Ohio does well in Nashville... But I think this is a good draw for you. If nothing else, you get to see Nate Wolters, one of the country's most exciting players, in person. The return trip won't help you much, though, as they'll have graduated their key pieces.

As noted, it will be either Cooper or Marshall, and it will probably be the player whose team finishes first. I wouldn't listen to anyone who says either player has a lock on the award. It'll come down to the wire. And here's the part you're not going to like to read: Elton Alexander made a power play a few years back and shut out younger writers like myself. So the people who are voting tend to be older and more taken with traditional, less advanced statistics. Some will be swayed by Cooper's career numbers, even though it not a career award. These circumstances hurts Marshall's candidacy, I believe.

You can always get better. The best teams are the ones who accept that fact.
