  1. immenient Domain will get the land needed for the stadium. If the State wants it, they get it.
  2. Looks like it - see the MAC Conference web page. This is a smart move by the Akron powers that be. There will be 25K+ at the rubber Bowl for the game now.
  3. Not. Any new stadium is not going to be named after a dead guy but for who puts up the jack to get it built. Maybe a lockerroom or suite, but not a stadium. They could name the restrooms for Faust and Owens.
  4. He could not have signed a LOI with UNH because he already signed one with Akron U. You cannot sign multiple LOI and the coaches at Akron U told me they still expect him to be in camp this fall. This is much ado about nothing.
  5. Your information on people leaving the football program is off track. None of the players you mentioned have left the program according to a coach I talked to over the weekend at the high school combine in the indoor facility.
  6. Why? Basketball is a sport where you can compete for a national title. Football is relegated to crap bowl level status and will never have the realistic chance to play in a BCS game. Soccer is popular in NE Ohio among kids and Akron is good at men's soccer and getting better at women's. Volleyball has historical success. Baseball and Softball have had success but have fallen back over the past decade. Track and Field and Golf should benefit greatly from the new indoor thing on campus. The men's track team and golf team have never won Reese-Jacoby points. The other sports do not really carry any public interest.
  7. YSU is an also ran in a nothing league. I would much rather have some big time teams come into the JAR. Playing YSU is not any better than facing Hiram or Capital.
  8. 1. Basketball 2. Football 3. Soccer 4. Volleyball 5. Baseball/Softball 6. Track & Field 7. Golf 8. Swimming 9. Tennis
  9. Football and Men's Basketball were last year and no one considers baseball to be a major sport at Akron U. Men's Soccer would be far and away more presigious than baseball. Good year this year or not, this coach was on thin ice. He probably just saw the writing on the wall and said I may as well quit now and save face and maybe get a job somewhere elese. A bad season in 2006 would have been curtains for the guy if you look at the recent trends. There are some really good baseball coaches at some of the D-11 and D-111 schools in Ohio... Akron should look there for the new boss or at a Big 10 assistant.
  10. One more bad season for Heath and Hipsher can get fired for the second time in three seasons next April. Soo wee Pig.
  11. The worst BRIAN-DUO ever... BRIAN WOOD BRIAN HIPSHER The worst BROTHER-DUO ever... Brian Hipsher Andy Hipsher The worst FAMILY ever... Again... The Hipshers The worst big man ever... MATT SEIBERT - 7-1 and had a gut, simply awful The worst little man ever... Mark Alberts Don't know how you can say that NICK GODDARD is anywhere near the best walk-on ever... simply a stupid comment. He never plays in games that matter, never plays defense, and has the talent equivalent of a circus side show freak. Just shooting the lights out against D-III teams means nothing. Drew Joyce WAS a walk-on his first year, so he get the nod easily over the Pride of Wadsworth.
  12. Don't know who B. Dials is? Nick Dials plays basketball at Akron. DUH.
  13. How fucking pathetic is it that the OSU thread has more posts that the TWO which were dedicated to the Akron baseball team winning and advancing in it's first MAC Tournament in over a decade... FUCK THE BUCKS!
  14. at Purdue, L 7-56 at Middle Tennessee State, L, 10-27 Northern Illinois, L, 7-48 Central Michigan, W, 14-10 at Buffalo, W, 24-21 at Miami, L, 10-31 Army, W, 17-10 at Bowling Green, L, 10-42 at Ball State, W, 17-13 Ohio, W, 14-10 Can't State, W, 13-10 Don't quite know where the offense is going to come from after seeing the Spring game. The key for this season is the CMU game and the hope that Akron can bounce back after another 0-3 start. Must be some pretty good dope that In the Zone was smoking to think that Akron would be beating MTSU and Miami on the road in 2005. Could not beat either at home last year, what make's Akron better in 2005? I look for another late season surge, but the OU and Can't State games will both be toss ups in my book.
  15. Men's Golf Coach Contract Not Renewed Steve Parker just completed his sixth season as Zips' coach May 20, 2005 AKRON, Ohio - The contract of University of Akron head men's golf coach Steve Parker will not be renewed for the 2005-06 season, director of athletics Mike Thomas announced Friday. Parker just completed his sixth season at Akron, leading the Zips to a sixth-place finish in the 10-team 2005 Mid-American Conference Championships earlier this month. "We appreciate Steve's efforts over the last six years, but I didn't feel the program was making sufficient progress to compete consistently at a high level," Thomas said. "We have some of the best facilities in the country and we're looking for our golf program to compete among the best in the MAC and in the nation." The Zips struggled to a 10th-place showing in the 2004 MAC Championships after finishing sixth in 2003 and ninth in 2002. A three-year letterwinner at Can't State and team captain as a senior in 1989, Parker became Akron's first full-time men's golf coach in May 1999. Following his career at Can't State, Parker played competitively on the mini-tour, Hogan Tour and various PGA events. He served as a teaching professional at Brookledge Golf Club and Academy in Cuyahoga Falls, prior to his arrival at Akron. A national search for Parker's replacement will begin immediately.
  16. The idea about the selection process taking place in the preseason would be a good idea if meet the team day were at the bowl. That event was at the fieldhouse last year and I was told will be there again from now on.
  17. Historical tidbit... Frye wanted #3 when he came to Akron but it was already taken... when the number opened up he had been in #5 for two years and decided to stay with the cinco. His first choice with Cleveland would probably be 3 as well, which was Joe Montana's college number.
  18. Talked with a buddy of mine today and he said that the Athletic department was throwing a Frye draft party at Pints on Exchange on Saturday. Not much more information available.
  19. Pretty amazing how after the 1999 and 2000 season no better recruits were brought in to build on that success. Only 15 wins was pretty poor.
  20. Interesting thought, but what does Akron have right now that would be attractive to another league? No proven fan base... a decrepid football stadium and high school like basketball arena, no TV power... but a great men's soccer and rifle team. The MAC is where it is for Akron.
  21. Don't see how any of you people see a seven win season out of this schedule. 0-3 out of the box is a mortal lock. Purdue = loss. Akron could not beat MTSU at home with Charlie, it ain't happening on the road. Ditto for Northern Illinois. CMU and Army at home are tossups and so are Ball State & Buffalo on the road. 0-3-4 Akron is not going to go to Miami or Bowling Green and win. 0-5-4 Can't and Ohio games are tough to call because of the time of year. 0-5-6 I do not see any clear wins with a young line, first year QB, and a tough early schedule. Last season's team rebounded from the 0-3 start due to veteran leadership. This team does not have that type of personnel. If the team splits the tossup games from above it's a 3-8 season. Just winning the home tossups makes it 4-7. 3-4 wins is what I expect.
  22. Actually they really suck. The coaches called them out yesterday and said no one was stepping up to be a leader.
  23. No Spring Practice during spring break - the guys get back at it on Wednesday from what I have been told
  24. Pouch hit it right on the head. This is a pretty selfish thing for Travis to do. A football player, coming out of his season and going into a second sport is great and that shows moxy. A basketball player taking the first two months off to play a "second" sport is bullshit. If I were Dambrot I would make Football pick up half of his scholarship costs. If Travis gets hurt, even a sprained ankle in the last game of the season, he'd miss another 2-3 weeks to rehab and get into basketball shape. Football players are not in basketball shape when they finish the season. That puts Romeo on the shelf until January, missing as many as 13 games. If Gates did not play football in college why does Travis? Dambrot has got to be pissed.
  25. The plans released back in the fall had it right across the street from this new development.
