Can someone post what is going on?
-
Actually, what we want to do is run the table (BG and Can't). That will guarantee us the MAC championship and at the very least an NIT bid, although I suspect that if we do win the league and lose the title game in the tourney we "could" get an at large to the NCAA. I know what the other people are saying, but the best path to the post season is to run the table. That's two games, one at home. OTOH, the tourney is I think three straight wins (someone correct me if I am wrong) and sudden death. So the BEST result for us is the win the MAC, THEN try to win the tourney. But at least we would have the NIT in the bag, which is way better than nothing. And frankly, there is nothing at all wrong with a trip to the NIT and just maybe win a game or two.

They really didn't play that well - in the 1st half, Buffalo could not get a shot to drop (shades of VCU). It's a win and I'll take it, but Buffalo had a game like we did at VCU. It happens.

Something just popped up. "Maybe" there will be video.

Not finding anything on zips zone? What's up with that?
-
Very difficult to watch. We played very good defense, held LS to 15 pts I think (yes, he didn't play that much and fouled out, but that's exactly the point), but NOTHING would drop. I think they rigged the basket.

I think Zeke missed a dunk and two layups. That's the game! Gotta do better.

I am fairly certain that change was made as a result of the 26 win Travis team not getting a bid after that awful call at the end of the MAC tournament. There was big article in the NY Times, and then the rule was changed. THAT team really got hosed, they were the best in the MAC in every way and the refs hosed them. "Forgot" to start the clock.
-
We got a little bump to 105If we beat VCU, I think the break 100.Lots of big name schools behind us, so can't really complain.

+126 wins and a screwing by the officials on a shot that should not have counted (I had that game on my DVR and I sat there with a stopwatch all night and played it over and over - that shot DID NOT COUNT).And not even an NIT bid -which by the way generated a full page article in the New York Times and caused the NCAA to change the selection criteria. But yes, the MAC (and AKRON) does not get any respect.

Put it on You Tube and watch it go viral

Blaming the West for Akron's perpetually low RPI is a tired old excuse. Every conference has their bottom feeders. The Horizon has UIC(306), Youngstown State(254) and Detroit (198), but yet Butler manages to get themselves up to 16. The West Coast Conference has Pepperdine(305), San Diego(220) and Loyola Marymount(211) yet Gonzaga manages to be 19 at the moment. The A-10 has Fordham(295) and St.Bonaventure(194) but still has 5 teams in the top 32.Why are all of these teams able to overcome the fact that they have to play some real clunkers in their conference schedule? Because <gasp> they manage to play a relatively difficult OOC schedule.Butler(16): beat Northwestern(77), lost to Minnesota(83), beat UCLA(admittedly a down year for them at 134), one point loss to Clemson(34), lost to Georgetown(8), beat Ohio State(30), beat Xavier(20), lost to UAB(38).Gonzaga(19): lost to Michigan St(26), beat Wisconsin(18), beat Cincinnati(49), two point loss to Wake Forest(11), lost to Duke(2), beat Oklahoma(87), beat Illinois(70)Temple(12): one point loss to Georgetown(8), beat Siena(35), beat Virginia Tech(50), beat St.Johns(72), beat Villanova(3), beat Seton Hall(55), lost to Kansas(1), and for bonus measures I should also point out that they played half of a MAC West Schedule (Ball State, WMU and NIU)Xavier(20): lost to Marquette(57), lost to Baylor(17), beat Can't St.(63), lost to Kansas St.(7), beat Cincinnati(49), lost to Butler(16), lost to Wake Forest(11), beat Florida(59)It is time for some Zips fans to stop blaming the MAC West for our problems in the RPI and start looking at the fact that we had a whopping total of two teams (Rhode Island and Texas A&M) on our OOC schedule this year that are currently in the top 100 RPI. Those four teams above, average over 7.Just for the record St. Bonnies and Fordham have been top programs at some time in the past.

And why does this thing ALWAYS say can't and not Can't?

And therein lies a problem because if Can't was so superior to us, they would certainly have a much better conference record. After all, we play the exact same teams! So it does not really take into account the success or failure against league opponents later in the season, when some teams play better (especially young teams that don't have prior years together) and some teams fall apart.
-
And for the last 13 games we have been playing all the same (MAC) opponents - and have the same league record. Now I know there are complex formulas involved in this, but still...They should be a point or two above us because so far they have beat us once...Other than that, should be very close to the same, not so far apart. Even looking at the OOC schedule, that was over a while ago and unless they had beat a top 25, should not matter too much at this point in the season. There is a good chance we will be playing them for the league championship very soon, which means we should be a whole lot closer than almost 50 apart.Just my .02

I don't know how you are defining too big, but Akron is just about the same size as most other MAC schools. Enrollment figures might be a little dated but it still gives you a rough idea.University of Akron 25,942 Bowling Green State University 22,882University at Buffalo 28,054 Can't State University 34,415 Miami University 20,126 Ohio University 20,437Ball State University 20,113Central Michigan University 26,788 Eastern Michigan University 22,974 Northern Illinois University 25,313 University of Toledo 19,706 Western Michigan University 24,818A University with an enrollment of 26,000 can play in ANY league. How many living alumni are there going all the way back to 1870? (Yes, I know, not too many 1870 grads are still around). The difference between us and Penn State (for example) is that they have GREAT football programs and thus the alumni come out in huge numbers and they fill that stadium. Now it becomes a question of which came first the chicken or the egg - build a great program and the fans will come out, but you need the fans to come out to build a great program.

Wow, that brought back some memories. Don't forget Gannon, we had some really good games with them.YIKESHow could I forget Gannon?I seem to recall they were BIG (the players that is).

Back when I attended UA we were a Div II independent. Our big games were against such giants as Buffalo State and Philadelphia Textile and Kentucky Wesleyan. So being in the MAC is, in a sense, a slice of heaven. Win the tourney and get a bid to the big dance. WOW.That being said, UA is just too big of a school to compete in a low end conference. We need an upgrade. Being in a conference that gets only one bid is an albatross around our neck. It is so hard to recruit when you don't get the exposure.

I think the guy is dead-nuts on.If Gonzaga slips up in their post season tourney, their conference gets 2-bids.If Northern Iowa slips up in their conference tourney, their conference gets 2-bids.If Butler slips up in their conference tourney, their conference gets 2-bids.If a MAC leader slips up in the MAC Championship...it gets an NIT.It hurts the MAC that no one dominates. In the only recent period where someone did dominate (K.e.n.t.), they won it all anyhow.A few years ago a controverted shot "at" the buzzer cost us the NCAA and we didn't even get an NIT bid. Some things in life are not fair...But the MAC seems to be not a mid-major but more of a low-major these days. So until the MAC improves it's image or we get into a better conference, that's the way it's gonna be.And it is a difficult situation, because obviously we are WAY too good to be Div II, and a lesser conference would not touch us with a 10 foot Serb, since we would dominate at this point. So where does that leave us? The Big 10 does not seem to be knocking on our door. I see the only way out is to improve the MAC. And I have no idea how to do that.

There was a rumor the game would be broadcast on ONN, from what I can tell that is not true according to the Oxford television listings. Radio it is...They don't even have audio on zips zone.

Zeke Closing in on D1 Top 10 Block Percentage
akronzips71 replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Do bracketbuster and playoff games count in the stats? If so, I think he could break the top 10 and better. -
I just looked up the stats. There were 72 FTs taken in a 50 minute game. Only 59% of them were made. FG percentages were terrible. I have to give you guys credit. If you could sit through a game like that, you could probably teach the CIA a thing or two about how to survive waterboarding. The CIA does not get waterboarded, they GIVE waterboard. And if you were in New York on 9/11 and buried friends and co-workers and breathed that shit, you would not give a fvck what they do to terrorists. End of rant.

And also, why can't they get the audio and video together on one stream?I have to watch from zips zone or channelsurfing, listen from zips zone or 1350, and it is never in synch. This is 2010, technology rules except at Akron it seems.I mean, if it was free, OK, you get what you pay for.IT'S NOT FREE I PAY FOR IT.game was free on channel surfing.net..............Exactly, why am I paying for it?And there is no play by play on Channelsurfing, but there is for some away games......
