Are they kidding? First MAC game at home and no ISP video? This is insane. Akron will always be second rate bush league.

Being old and not "from" Akron I have no idea what you just said.Could you translate that for the benefit of a senior citizen (the last time I saw a Zips game in person it was Len Paul, Larry Quarles and Larry "Jinx" Jenkins on the court). And Danny Ruff and Jack Beidelmann on the girdiron.Hey 71, Don't feel bad. You may be too old to understand an incomprehensible phrase, but unlike these young whippersnappers you realize that if this years bball team had anyone as good as Leonard Paul we would have beaten RI. Don't even get me started on Beidelmann. He was a magician on the fball field.YAY another old guy!Yup, those were the days, sort of. Being an independent in Div II sucked, but we did have some fun losing to Terry Bradshaw and Earl Monroe! But for the record, I think this team will tear thru the MAC if they can just get more consistent. It looked (on the crappy Akron ISP network) like they were shocked they were ahead and tried to get too cute with their passes, which you can not do with a team of this caliber. If they had Jinx Jenkins in the backcourt.......Len Paul, I saw him match up against Bruce Smith of Buffalo and he went pro, eventually became a Knick.I was in Memorial hall to watch Winston Salem play the Zips. I dont remember the exact number, but we held the Pearl to about his season average (around 52).1966-67 seasonI came over that fall. How about that shot from half-court?

Rhode Island might beat every team in the MAC, but that isn't much of a testament to Rhode Island. Truth be told, that wasn't a GREAT team. They were good mind you, but they weren't that great. I've seen NAIA teams shoot jumpshots better than those guys. They don't rebound particularly well (though they turned it on in the middle of the 2nd half and did a decent job there). Their full court press, quite frankly is a joke. The Zips beat it with ease. Rhode Island won the game because they moved into a half court defense and the Zips couldn't figure it out. Nothing about that team screamed "Top 25" to me.They won the game because the Zips got careless and turned it over too many times, and once again MISSED FREE THROWS.
-
This Zips team just might be for real. And I see a lot of empty seats. Where are the fans?
-
I don't know...We got two guys (Hixon and Blackburn) who got Super Bowl rings and STARTED for the Super Bowl Champs the following year.Hard to beat that at Akron.

I don't know but it was down the other day for the Valpo game

At least this time they forgot to cut to advertising every time there was a foul shot. That drives me fvcking NUTS. And I have written to them many times about that, they never even respond.Let me tell you a little story about Akron back in the day (1967 to be exact). I was a freshman, living in the dorms (the big tower, I can't even remember what it was called). There was a plaza, with I think two low rise women's dorms, and in the plaza there was a "mess hall" where we took our meals, and the infirmary. BTW, we had to wear jacket and tie to dinner!!!!!Anyway, that fall, maybe October, I wake up one night with horrible cramps. I go to the common bathroom (there were two on each floor) and I just remember the alphabet soup from dinner all over everything (SORRY!). So anyway, after I take care of business I decide I better go to the infirmary, because I am SICK. I look out my window onto the plaza, and there is a line of literally over 100 people waiting to get in. So the hell with that, I man up and go back to bed.Well in the morning I find out that we all got food poisoning - from the veal cutlet patties. EVERYONE who ate the chopped veal patties got sick. It tasted good, I had seconds! At that time the mess hall was run by an outside caterer - no University employees. It was a radical time, Viet Nam war and all that, so we decided to do something about it. We had a "ceremony" in the lobby of the mess hall we we burned our meal tickets, led by Charlie Penn, President of our Dorm (there is a Charles Penn Jr memorial scholarship fund thru the University PD, BTW. Same guy). We then declared we would NOT eat there again until the caterer was terminated. We ALSO told mommy and daddy, who were for the most part PAYING for those meals.Within two days, the caterer was gone and the place was staffed by University employees, some of whom came over from the Student Center (Rathskeller??) cafeteria (they had good burgers and fries then). WE also decided that there would be no more jackets and ties for dinner. We simply refused to comply. Since the University wanted mommy and daddies money, they gave in, stopped poisoning us and fed us even when we wore blue jeans. Now the moral of this long story, my fellow fans, is this:IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY.IF WE STOP PAYING FOR THIS NON-SERVICE, THEY WILL NEED TO GET SOMEONE ELSE.IF WE STOP DONATING ALUMNI MONEY, THEY WILL LISTEN!!!!!So I hope someone here is paying attention. I have tried to be a fan for over 40 years. YES, FORTY YEARS.If you won't let me be a fan by providing a good service (THAT I PAY FOR), then no more fan.andNO MORE MONEY -

Yup, I'm not paying for this shit next year. The hell with it. -
So as usual, Zips Zone SUCKSDoes anyone read their email and read this board?I pay for this shit and as usual it don't work all we get is PLEASE STAND BY.Just wait until the Univ asks me, as an alum, for a donation. Why should I give anything to a school that does not care? And suddenly, the audio link does not work either!!!! Getting some generic Sports Radio stuff, NOT the game..HOW THE HELL CAN YOU EXPECT TO MOVE UP WHEN NO ONE CAN SEE OR HEAR THE GAMES?????????????
-
I was about to start the same thread.I looked at the RPI standings and just about threw up! We REALLY are playing better than that, even if some of the opponents suck. The HORRIBLE Football team plays Penn State and other BCS teams. With no chance of ever winning one of those games. But I seem to remember "barely" losing to Dayton and beating FSU and somewhat holding our own against Gonzaga in basketball. You can't complete against top 25 teams if you don't play any. Sh*t or get off the pot Akron basketball.
-
BBall doesn't play a Div I schedule??Don't tell that to Texas A&M, Niagara, Dayton, Rhode Island.Maybe you mean we should play only top 25 teams??We are trying. That's mostly who goes to the NCAA

I feel your pain, but here is the thing:I live in New York. We have FOUR daily newspapers, and the Soccer Cup did not get even ONE line of print. The ONLY reference was the scores in the little box in the sports section, buried between Scottish soccer results and women's field hockey. The BB team, on the other hand, got a FULL PAGE ARTICLE in the NY Times the year that the Joyce/Travis team was snubbed in the NIT.I know there is pride in the first class soccer team in NE Ohio, but guys, if you want to build an athletics reputation nationally, the money sports are FOOTBALL and BASKETBALL. I don't know if UA can ever get there in Football, probably not. But we already have something of a national program in basketball, having been to the NIT and NCAA recently. There have been several nationally televised games in recent years (and don't count the Soccer Cup, that was the National Championship, what other times could I even watch Akron Soccer on TV in New York). But I did get to see two NIT games and one NCAA game, and possibly the MAC championship as well.So you see, the issue is not who likes Soccer. Soccer is an international sport, but not much of an American sport. Every attempt at Pro Soccer in the US has ended in dismal failure. In general, the only people who care much about soccer in the country are people who play or have kids who play. That's just the way it is. OK, so in the Akron area you get comments and discussions about Akron being in the National Championship. SO WHAT. The point of building athletic programs is NATIONAL EXPOSURE. RECRUITING. Attracting higher caliber students. The path to that is thru Football and Basketball. When I was a kid in NY I learned the Notre Dame fight song in about the third grade. NOT the Akron fight song. What is that? Because of "win one for the gipper". Football is traditionally the BIG College sport, but with the emergence of March Madness, BBall is right up there now. And we do have an opportunity, especially with Zeke. So this is the time to strike while the iron is hot.I apologize to all those who don't share my opinion, but for well over 30 years I could never even get an Akron score. They were not on the radar at all. I remember when they went to the NCAA in 1986, it was pre-Internet days, and the first I heard of it was seeing the losing score - and then only because it was a NCAA score. So now BB is on the radar, lets keep it that way gentlemen.

NOT ENOUGH. Not when you turn away fans, make fans (and students) pay money to sit on the frozen ground or stand for 2 1/2 hours. With a halfway decent facility, soccer could be another revenue generating sport, benefitting ALL programs. When's the last time the basketball team brought in nationally ranked teams in the non-con, and sold the place out?The soccer program hosts HOSTS conference tournaments and early rounds of the NCAA tournament and that sorry excuse for a high school soccer stadium is inadequate. We need to sell tickets right up to game time, and give those people a place to sit. We need to have lighting that will allow games to be on TV. You have a chance of building something BIG in northeast Ohio, and this crap of slapping more lipstick on the pig, while catering to the traditional revenue sports is going to bite the U in the ass.As good as we are and have been at Soccer, it is NOT a sport with a national following. It adds little to the prestige of the school.Football and BBall are THE college sports. AND, the BBall team has been going to the post season, so there is hope for a national program.I say put the money into basketball. Last year they were on national TV a few times, and do add to our prestige.

The DAMN Akron ISP network does it again!!!!No video, just please stand by.What a joke, I PAY for this BS year after year.Akron will NEVER be any kind of respected school when you cant even get what you pay for.
-
Why can't we get a video feed for the home games? I pay for the damn service.
-
I know it is not you, but I subscribe to the Akron ISP and the audio and video are ALWAYS out of synch. I mean, I hear the play, then two plays later I see the play. OR, the video feed has no audio at all.So I usually have to sign on twice, once for the video and once for the audio. Sometimes I watch the video and listen to 1350 and it is closer to real time. For a Division I school this is really pathetic, ESPECIALLY since I pay for the service!

According to what they said on the radio, someone chose to clobber him, rather than just foul. I don't know if he hit the floor, but lets just say UNNECESSARY ROUGHNESS.oops, wrong sport.
-
If he is good shouldn't he play?
-
I see him on the roster for two seasons - is he hurt, red shirted or what?
-
So what if the Zips are invited to the pre-season NIT? In other words, they feel bad about how bad they screwed us, and decide to throw us a few crumbs? My vote is that we say NO! We earned a berth this year, they beat us again if we show up to that so they can make money. How about a poll?
