  1. J. Wood was a man possessed tonight. Many of those rebounds he pulled down were extremely hard fought. He was hustling all night as well. I am always impressed by a guy whose team is up by over 20 points with just a few minutes left in the game diving for balls with reckless abandon.Great effort tonight. Linhart may have been ill but he took quite a shot in the mouth early on that impacted his play.Great effort by just about everyone, even if we were playing an inferior opponent.Rowdies---you were super...lots of energy!! Go Zips!!
  2. Interestingly, he is a three star prospect on Scouts.com, listed as the 23rd best weak side linebacker prospect in the country. He was one of the Pittsburgh paper's "Fab 22".I know that there is a lot of debate about the recruiting services and their ratings (and whether or not this all translates into scholar athletes that can compete and maintain eligibility), but it looks like a great pick up to me too. Also reportedly offered by Buffalo and Toledo.Way to go Zips!!Go Zips
  3. As you predicted---Small piece, back page of the Wreaking Urinal sports section...wire report...disgusting. And embarrassing. The BJ really blows!!!!
  4. WOW!!!!!!
  5. We are up by 5 with 25 ticks left. Get 'em guys!!!
  6. Hey stop you guys!! Toledo is to be respected. Remember, Amstutz told recruits they would be in the Big East. Perhaps he did not specify that this was part of their future travel schedule and not their future conference affiliation.Go Zips!!
  7. Nor the perimeter shooting of "Sumthin'" Smith or Ken Mackovic or the dunks of Don Williams!
  8. And not one down of a game missed by any of the convicted...hmmm...curious. Go Zips!
  9. It always annoyed me when going to Oxford and watching Miami play the Zips that the Miami student section and band were immediately behind the Akron bench.I considered it obtrusive and rude (Cryami's M.O.anyway)...that said, I, of course, think it is a capital idea when we do the same. The Rowdies were great last night. Keep it up!Now if we can just get some more attendance to watch our men perform. I know that the weather was threatening but c'mon, 16,000?Go Zips!
  10. I just watched the Getsy to Hixon pass in the MAC Championship game on Youtube about fifty times. Love that Mike Terico call.I was pumped before, and now I'm in high gear for today's game. I want a victory and believe in our men, but I am a realist. PSU is going to be a tough one. I (guess) would (sadly) settle for respectability today (and no significant injuries). Could this be our defining moment or will it be against NC State? Or Both!!!???Go Zips!!
  11. I like this idea and don't forget about the "older" Zips. Bill Turner was the Center for the Zips NCAA Runner-Up team in 1963, he also played in '64 and '65. He was drafted by the old San Francisco Warriors (later Golden State) and played for four or five years in the NBA. The Alumni Office should have an address for him. A note on that same team Gus Williams, a forward, was drafted by the Cleveland Browns even though he never played football. He didn't make the team. That was DON Williams, Bill Turner and Frank Thompson's old running mate. Don used to "rock" the old Memorial Hall with his dunks. He couldn't shoot from the perimeter very well but he had a muscular frame for a 6'5" forward, and man was he a monster on the boards. I can hear Bob Wylie screwing up the play by play now---"check that" what memories.I'd like to hear about a lot of the former athletes from that roster.Go Zips!!
  12. I agree. I would be shocked if that happened.Look for him in a K(ansas) State uni, playing in lovely Manhatten, Ks.Go Zips!!
  13. Rivals.com is reporting this RB heading to the Univ. of Connecticut. He had us up there (one recruiting service showing him choosing between us and them) and decided to go in the other direction. Undoubtedly undaunted, JD and staff will find an adequate (or better) Frosh RB (hell, we might have that already with Pride).Go Zips!!!
  14. The Enquirer article says that Pride was clocked at 4.33 speed. If this is true all I can say is Vroom Vroom when this young man has the ball.Go Zips!!
  15. Ohio Varsity is showing Gary Pride, a Colerain QB (listed as an "Athlete" on recruiting services), as committing to the Zips. He is 5'9", 180 lbs and is expected to play RB or as a wideout in his senior year. In a game against Hamilton last year he ran for 176 yds on 15 carries at the QB position and scored four td's. Over 1,000 yds rushing from the QB position.More multi-faceted (speedy) talent= more wins.Go Zips!!
  16. Steve sounds like an immensely talented, heady young man. Great web site, BTW.I look forward to seeing him rock the MAC as a ZIP! I hope he has a successful (and healthy) senior season.Go Zips!!P.S. That goes for BOTH of the Steve's!!
  17. I agree with your assessment and rankings. Now I'd like to see us play a big part as the MAC moves through steady progression upward. We can start by winning at least one of the two against Penn State (tough one)and NCSt (ripe for the picking, overconfident and quite beatable).Go Zips!!
  18. I have emailed Jim Morrison from the Doors at his place in France several days ago to get his take on the situation. So far he has been deathly silent on the Frye matter.Go Zips (and Charlie and the Browns)!!!!
  19. Marshall is 103rd on that list. And as they say in Huntington..."that ain't right, that there guy doin' the cipherin' musta mussed it up".Go Zips!!
  20. 22 wins. 23 is a new record Overexuberance got the best of me. Thanks!Go Zips!!
  21. 23 wins. Only 13 at home. KD mentioned that in Huggins last season, of the 23 wins that year, 18 of those wins were at home. What a season for our men!!Go Zips, kick the Blue Jays butts Thursday!! Send 14,000 home sad and cranky!!
  22. Frenchie said he was ill. Played a minute or so. We'll need his widebody on Thursday.Go Zips!!
  23. Anyone have info on Chris McKnight's brother, Brett?Go Zips!!
  24. Dittos on the comments. In the few contacts I had with Mike, he was always sensitive to the issue at hand and gave me the impression that he would give my concern a top priority. He never let me down. I wish only the best for him and his family in their new community.Go Zips!!
  25. Yes, KD and the staff does bear some responsibility and I am sure he would be the first to admit that fact. However, let us not forget where we have come from this year. I doubt that few of us could have imagined the level of success we would have achieved knowing that JWood was going to be out,Dials was probably not fully rehabbed, Peterson was plagued by some back problems, and Conyers could not compete this year.I, for one, feel that this group of men were playing on fumes towards year's end, and it was KD and the staff that was able to squeeze a lot of effort out of them that, in the not too distant past, was simply not there. Two successful seasons and much more on the horizon leaves me wanting to see us wreak more havoc on our foes next year. And next year cannot start soon enough.Watching the Can't fans storm the floor yesterday made me kind of ill as it COULD have been us. But I am confident that our time will come...soon!Go Zips!!
