A source threw a name at me to (theoretically) fill the scheduling gap...Morgan State..a potential 2009 1-AA opponent. IF this is true, and I repeat IF, they have a qb named Carlton Jackson.I looked for Morgan State's football schedule for 2009 and could not find it. Had I located it and seen that they had finalized it then I would not be thinking that this was a possible direction for an opponent.Anyone else hearing this?? Again, to repeat it IS unsubstantiated but the "source" was a pretty reliable one. And they did tell me that nothing is finally arranged. That would be ironic if true, though.Go Zips!!

Fortuitously, I have my Zips basketball "warm-up" in # 54 ready for the trip to McKeesport. I have had it for years now. Now I know why!!Is there a schedule for the McKeesport BB season available on-line?Waiting for a Zeke-tacular signing day!!Go Zips!! -
While looking for THEIR football schedule, I "googled" old Can't State; This is, literally what came up:Can't State UniversityKent State University is one of the pubic Ohio universities that is rank among the top universities for its dedication to education in America and ...www.Can't.edu/ Now please note that while our Zip board does change THAT university's name, the error on google is amazing and is unedited. If you read it (and not that carefully by the way) you see the glaring error for the word intended to say"PUBLIC" and the grammatical misusage instead of the word "RANKED".Now, I for one cannot imagine that someone did not "hack" in and change something. I think it is hilarious.Type it in on google and check for yourselves. If "they" are watching the board I imagine it will be changed soon.Go Zips!

... and every time it fills up in the summer for more than a few days, someone on the maintenance staff will have to throw some organic mosquito control into it. LOL You wouldn't want a very large standing farm for a galactic swarm of bloodsuckers so near to campus.Maybe the Plasma Alliance wants to sponsor any blood-sucking mosquito site. Sell them the naming rights!!Go Zips!!

I consider myself "liberal" (yeah those people that proposed and supported those "socialist" philosophies like Social Security, the GI Bill, etc). However, not all people, "defined" as such disagree with the concept of concealed carry permits.Carrying a gun in one's car is NOT the same as carrying a gun with a concealed carry permit, which I personally support. It assumes that a permit is sought, background checks are employed and there is training as to the use and care of the weapon that must be demonstated. The law prohibits the carrying of weapons into some environments (such as schools and drinking establishments).Unfortunately, many, many people have weapons and do not understand their potential impact. Statistically, guns in homes that ARE used are used against "loved" ones 90% of the time and not against intruders or home invaders. That is the sad reality. They are too accessible and too many hotheads have them and too many children have quick and easy access to them. That is not a "liberal" view, just reality. Go Zips!!

The Summit County Criminal Justice website does confirm that Mr. Pace did, in a negotiated plea agreement, plead guilty to the improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and driving under suspension. He did receive a sentence of incarceration according to the agreement, but that was suspended by the Court so long as he complies with the conditions of his probation.Sorry to disagree with Mr. Pace's friend but he WAS charged initially with drug-related charges. The charges related to drugs were, in fact, dismissed by the prosecution. Just as stated by Dr. Z, I found the same info originally on the APD website. I do not think that anyone here pronounced judgment on Mr. Pace. Most were probably, like me, disappointed (and shell-shocked because of the timing of the situation in relation to another Zip athlete) to see something like that but most here a fair-minded. But I also stand by what was available to everyone on a public website. His exoneration on the drug-related charges also appears for all to see on a public website. In fact, since the initial arrest, I do not think that anyone here was "piling on" and simply awaited the final disposition of the case, as how now transpired. It is my sincere hope that Mr. Pace goes on with his life unscathed, is a productive member of society and is successful in his chosen endeavors.Go Zips!!

What home game are you most looking fowards to?
ziplock replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Come on...tell me you do NOT think anyone here would want those urinal troughs. But perhaps Can't wants/needs them as a receptacle to dye their piss yellow uniforms!!! I say we donate the urinals and some homemade Zip yellow "dye" from our fans to the cause. Go Zips!! -

The Buffalo game should be a game of great anticipation (I guess by that time we will know how competitive we had been during the season and will have OTHER questions about the direction of the program answered). My last chance to use a toilet inside of a toilet (at least insofar as at a U of A game)!!But what great memories in that awesome pit.Has anyone heard what the disposition of the bowl will be when we move on campus?? Any rumors, innuendo and heresay about the venerable Rubber Bowl??C'mon Summa Field at Infocision Stadium, RISE UP!!!!Go Zips!! -
I agree with your assessment uakronkid.Take a look at Pitt's recruiting "domain". Typically, they are heavily into Md, Virginia, etc, and see those areas as ripe for potential student-athletes. Since JD was the offfensive coordinator at Pitt, he undoubtedly cultivated some relationships in those circles, which continue today. Several of JD's coaches (now and in the past) have Pitt ties and those relationships in Maryland and Virginia have continued to be fruitful. It was a reasonably short trip for those recruits up I-70 from Md to Breezewood, PA and the PA. Turnpike into Pittsburgh. Only another 1/3 of a tank of gas to our "house". I would surmise that the advent of the new stadium and the major campus improvements/expansion will put us in a position to attract more talent from Maryland and beyond.Go Zips!!

Scouts write up about Zeke @ WV Jamfest
ziplock replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I think the "Duke" comment was in reference to Thomas Robinson, at least by way of the verbiage in the snippet. But, the comments about Zeke are WAY BEYOND encouraging. He is competing against some major talent in these tourneys.Go Zeke!! Go Zips!! -

From May 15, 2008 Akron Police Website:Chevin T. PACE, 22, 10820 W. Golf Dr., Miami, Florida was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon Gun, Drug Abuse Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia. Chevin was stopped at 37 N. Main St. for an equipment violation. Chevin was driving with no operators license and while being placed under arrest, Chevin stated that he had a gun in the vehicle. Chevin was also found to be in possession of drugs.I am saddened by things like this report from the APD. Does anyone know if he had finished school or was registered at present?

A Msg from Zeke Marshall's MOM...
ziplock replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
The comments by many of the Pitt folks are an absolute embarrassment. I looked at several Pitt message boards and I was flabbergasted. There were a few level-headed people wishing Zeke the best, but they were certainly in the minority of posters.I had read some of the more pathetic statements and felt compelled to respond but why bother? I would have only been "feeding the alligators". Student athletes choose schools for any variety of reasons. If Zeke had chosen to go elsewhere, while many here would have been disappointed, the responses would not have been venomous or personally critical (based on what I have seen over the years of our supporters) and then we would have moved on. In fact, we would have been honored that our university and our basketball staff has cultivated the type of environment at the U of A that high character student-athletes such as Zeke would consider. It is a shame that the only way to rationalize something like this ( a high school student's decision to attend another university) is to engage in personal attack, question the "heart" of a player and their desire to achieve and become irrationally hypercritical of the student-athlete, their family and the institution they have decided to attend. Some people need to get some perspective in their lives. Clearly some of those people do not. That is sad.We are fortunate that your son is well-grounded (except on the court when swatting lane driver's shots away!!) and made a thoughtful decision. I am sure that it was not an easy one considering all of the schools that were "knocking" on your door.Go Zeke!! Go Zips!! -
Yep. Memorial Hall was the basketball arena before the JAR was built. It's primarily used as the physical education building now, and it is scheduled to be demolished some time within the next year and a half. It is almost completely surrounded by construction at the moment, and I can't see them hosting the championship game there. The seats are uncomfortable, there is no climate control, the scoreboard is on par with a high school one, and the capacity is about half of the JAR.You are right about the climate control issue...it is like a steambath in that place. But oh, what memories of the old days, Don Williams jamming, Sumthin' Smith burying jumpers, Bill Turner with baseline turnarounds and Frank Thompson swatting opponent's lay up attempts. Going in that place, and seeing how small it is after all of the passing years is like going back to your BIG junior high (whoops, middle school) and seeing how small it REALLY was.Go Zips!!

zips getting another good preferred walk on in...
ziplock replied to timmyboy's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I will second, third or fourth that emotion!I saw him in the Firestone-Revere game. He has great cutting ability, good open field smarts and is quick, quick, quick. He will be a nice addition and someone who can impact a game. He also had the benefit of being coached in HS by Tim Flossie who has developed some excellent players in his tenure at several local programs. -
With regard to one of the new assistants in volleyball, I think they mean something else in their press release:As of 2007, her two-year totals of 708 kills and 2,039 attacks both rank fifth in Marist’s career records and she shits seventh in career digs with 550. She also set the team’s single-season mark for kills (436) and attacks (1,231) during her sophomore season. She was named to the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic team as a sophomore and was elected team captain prior to her sophomore and junior seasons.

Rivals.com ranks the "Fab" 50 High School basketball programs in America:30. Chillicothe (Chillicothe, Ohio) 25-2 (NR)The Cavaliers won their first state title with a 70-69 overtime win over Toledo Libbey in the Division 2 finals. All-State guard Anthony Hitchens (5-9) led the way. Chillicothe also defeated state Division 1 champion Newark, 59-53, during the regular season.Way to go Humpty and Chillicothe!!!Can't wait to see him in a Zips uni, running the show and burning our MAC opponents!!Go Zips!!

WKYC-TV say that Christian will earm between $600 and $800 K annually. I am sure that the top end includes incentives. No matter how any of us feel about him, he really maintained the level of Waters and Heath (although Heath's one year was, in my view, an anomaly from the Waters tears). He brought some exposure to the MAC, although that did not translate into multi-bids in the NCAA tourney. And all the talk about loyalty aside, if KD continues on his path, he may be next! We need to ramp up his salary and the committment to the basketball program and hope that has an impact on his future decisions about Akron. In the face of an increase in salary by, literally, hundreds of thousands of dollars, it has to tempt any of us, particularly an innovative, coach in a winning program, irrespective of the issue of loyalty.Go Zips!!

I'm concerned about next year's recruits
ziplock replied to wutup_nj's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I would love to see KD recruit a player that is ranked top 150 in the entire country, then Akron would truly dominate. Having a recruit that is one of the best in your state, doesn't necessarily mean he is a high impact player. The crop of players at that position could be particularly weak in that state during that year. I would also like to KD recruit a player hat is ranked in the nations top 20 at their respective positions.Well Ziplockbag....I guess you never took the time to check out my son Zeke Marshall 09 recruit..WHO by the way sir...has a 3 star ranking on Scout.com and is listed 19 in the 2009 class at the Center position. So having said all of this---you MAY want to rethink that above statement or perhaps do a "little more research" before blasting the recruiting efforts of UA. He is not ranked on Rivals (although they have a very interesting article about him on their site). And if I may say this...you might want to consider this has well....why only go after the "so called" highly ranked players? Consider the fact that Zeke is not blown up on the "scout" sites yet he is considered a major recruit for his class..AND RIVALS NOR SCOUT had ANYTHING...now say with me...NOTHING to do with it. I personally like it when a kid is not considered by "scouts" and "rivals" and places like that to be so important or worth their attention...although they are excellent players..why do I say this...because it provides a better opportunity for UA and other mid major schools to get top quality athletes without having to fight the "bigger" schools for them. Zeke LOVES being under the radar...less scrutiny from the "so-called" super intelligent, all knowing scouts and more of an opportunity to look at and really consider schools LIKE AKRON. Take a deep breathe ziplockbag and hold on...because it is getting ready to get (as my beautiful daughter says--CRACK-A-LACKIN) Sweet! I love that: "CRACK-A-LACKIN"! That's hilarious! CRACK-A-LACKIN-AKRON! We know Zeke is the real-deal and we think he'd look beautiful in blue & gold!!! "Humpty Hitchens with the ball at the top of the key; passes over to Roberts; Roberts back to Humpty; Humpty drives the lane and dishes off to Zeke; SLAM WITH THE RIGHT HAND!!! TWO POINTS! The Mid-American Conference trembles at the sound of Zeke's name! The crowd is going crazy, crying out 'ZZZZZZZZZZZEKE!!!'"I LOVE IT "BLUE AND GOLD". Sounds like a game plan to me...!!!!C'mon Ziplockbag, with all due respect, if you are going to use part of my moniker in your name, at least get it right.KD has done a great job recruiting AND coaching and I, for one, have no doubt about where he is determined to take this program!! Please, please, please remember the "Hipsher" years and yes, even the "Crawford" years, by comparison.Go Zips!! -
Spoken like a guy who hasn't seen this team play much this year .. by your own admission.Nate is a lock down defender. Simply put, probably the best on ball defender in the conference. Take a look at the averages of some of the guys he defended this year, and then compare to their games against the zips.l Start with the kids at Temple, Wyoming, UIC and UMass .. every one of them came in to the games against the Zips with guady numbers, and put up well short of their averages .. well short.Nate takes guys out of the game. And he'll do it again next year.I am very optimistic looking ahead to next year. Say what you will but since he arrived, as stated by one of you eloquent posters somewhere here, KD has continued to put us in a position to win. Next year should be no different. Of course we will miss Jeremiah, just like we missed Romeo and Dru this year but I am fully confident in KD's ability to "re-load".Thanks Zips for a fun and exciting season. Go Zips!!
