  1. Funny...and scary!!!! For the life of me, I can't think of anyone in this community who might place their own agenda ahead of the success of our brand new stadium
  2. Hi there Hilltopper. Was wondering if you could give any more info about tailgating. I am surprised about the limitation to "Buchtel Field only" because there just isn't that much public space there anymore. And it obviously won't be "tailgating" in the true sense because you can't park there....will you be allowed to byob to Buchtel? What about bbq grills???A harsh enforecement of open container laws will be a big disaster imho. For Browns games there are open containers in every single lot. The Police only hassle those who deserve it through bad behavior. If the Akron PD (or University PD) cracks down on tailgating, expect a large amount of well deserved bad publicity for our brand new stadium. Only Buchtel Field? For a 30,000 seat stadium they'd limit tailgating to that small area? They couldn't POSSIBLY screw it up this bad. I hope you are misinformed.I checked again this morning and it appears that Buchtel Field will be the Tailgate area. Anywhere else with an open container and you will risk a citation. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=41....mp;t=h&z=17
  3. Wow, I am frequently not impressed with the bands music selection and lack of movement. But man, I certainly did not know how little support you guys got. That's terrible.QUOTE(bandzip @ Nov 9 2008, 02:19 AM) "As a member of the band I can tell you that the band can't get any bigger unless we get some more money. You guys can see the beat up instruments we play. The school sousaphones, mellos and baritones are so beat up and twisted that most of them don't work. You can see some of these instruments brand new in the 1977 video "A Thing Called Pride." We also ordered more uniforms and raincoats last year when the size of the band jumped but now we're out again. It also doesn't help that members get about $200 for all the time they put in. Just for an idea of how much time that is-12 hours x 6 days for band camp =72 hours3 practices a week x 2 hours x 12 weeks (more if we go to the championship and/or bowl game) = 72 hours1 hour of sectionals a week = 12 hours 5 home games/1 HS Band Show x at least 6 hours each = about 36 hoursTotal = 192 hours if we don't go to the championship and not counting the time it takes to practice music outside of band. We also have to buy two t-shirts, a polo, gloves and shoes which cost over $100. $200 - $100 / 192 = 52 cents an hour at a very generous estimate.Trust me, I would love to have a huge band too, but we can't do it unless we get more funding. Trying to talk kids into joining the one credit class and spending all of that time at practice instead of hanging out with friends or doing school work is hard enough. When most kids come to check out the band the first thing they mention is how bad our instruments and uniforms look. If any of you have an idea of how to fix this make sure to share the idea. If there is $65 million plus out there to build a stadium I'm sure someone would be willing to donate a very small fraction of that for instruments and or uniforms."
  4. Zippy doesn't have to look ferocious, because Zippy is the anti-mascot!!!Besides, mascots that have to look mean are generally overcompensating for something....p.s. this post or any posts critical of Zippy should be removed by moderators because we have the number one mascot in college sports.
  5. Maybe those legendary $1 seats WERE on the tarp??? It's like the RB's answer to loge seating. p.s. that looming shadow hovering over the stadium is the wrecking ball
  6. Good point. It would be so cool to play Pac 10 and other teams that you just don't see around here.Although I don't care to go back to Detroit for a bowl game. Our fan base did represent well since it's so close, but Detroit kind of sucked. Would rather go to Toronto or Mobile or anywhere else.
  7. 56 yarder....I remember rushing the field with about 2,000 others on that afternoon!!!!
  8. My two cents...I live in the Cleveland market and have to say Akron has gotten A TON of publicity from the MAC b-ball tournament here in Cleveland.WKNR does a fantastic job building interest in this event, and their shows with Tony Rizzo and Kenny Roda are filled with callers from Akron and Can't and other MAC schools, talking up all the rivalries. They love it. Even Bernie Kosar came on the Rizzo show to talk about how he much liked Akron, and how he thought the Zips got screwed vs. Miami with "the shot." In fact, the media up here was drooling over the idea of an Akron-Can't State final. Local media was talking about selling out the Q. Then we shot ourselves by getting killed that game. Anyhow back to football. There are tons of potential fans up here in Cleveland area who are starving for either:A. A winning team or B. A big party We all want both, but the U has to realize just how important B. is as well. It is essential that the school help foster a fun atmosphere and total fan experience on gameday. This is the best way for the program to gain more interest from sports fans in Akron, Cleveland and all over. And it will bring back our alumni too. The BG game was proof positive that we're heading in the right direction with tailgating at least. So much fun that day. With the new stadium on deck, this is a once in a lifetime chance to start off on the right foot. To start a new and positive chapter in the history of Akron sports. So lets keep the party going!!!
  9. Combination loss. Offense and Defense play almost well enough to win and once again they fall just short. Ultimately this is on the coaches, but we are so close to pulling it all together. Soon these close losses will turn into wins. p.s. snaps as high as the t-shirt cannon....hillarious!!!
  10. This was a classic Akron game at the Rubber Bowl. QUESTION:with the game on the line, who do you trust more to win it, our offense or our defense?I've seen enough that I excpect the team to lose. Not only that, we find a way to lose even when our chances at a loss look bleak.
  11. I don't think Morehead is getting the ball to the best players often enough. Is Bruce our most talented player? He has guts, but he seems to be the number one option way too much. How about some screen passes or something. We have good speed out of the backfield. C Jacq is usually accurate within 20 yards or so. Outside that, well, that's not his strength. While it's obvious Jacq will never be Charlie Frye, or even Luke Getsy, I like the fact he's not quitting, ie, just check out the pass to Bowser for the TD. We just need to offense to cater more to his strengths.
  12. Being at the game was sooo much fun (aside from some of the on the field frustration lol). There are multiple tailgate areas and there was lots of friendly rivalry going on. There were lots of mixed groups of Akron and Can't fans hanging out which is cool. Sat with some classy Can't fans near the AK-Rowdies in the end zone. Quaint, well kept stadium and a killer scoreboard!!! This is a good rivalry and should get more publicity imho. p.s. when the Zips team ran toward the endzone to salute the fans the feel was electrifying...I mean, we haven't had much to celebrate lately and it was fantastic.
  13. I was at the game so obviously didn't see the broadcast.I saw from highlights that Michael Reghi was on the espn 360. He usually does a tremendous job.How was the channel 5 broadcast? I'm so glad they're televising this rivalry here in ne ohio.
  14. All the Nike money in the world won't buy good taste.Oregon's uni's are criminally bad!!!!! http://images.dawgsports.com/images/admin/...on_uniforms.jpghttp://images.dawgsports.com/images/admin/...on_uniforms.jpg Yes except Oregon is the research university for Nike, so Nike pumps a ton of money into the school and tests a lot of equipment and design with the various athletic programs. Most if not all of Oregon's equipment and uniforms is paid for by Nike.
  15. LOL Steve French can't see them as it stands now...PLEASE don't shrink them!
  16. Can't has been putting up points....Akron played Cincy tough....I'll say 27-26...not saying who will win this!!!!
  17. His far reaching political insight is amazing.Seriously, is this guy actually paid to write?
  18. Our uniforms are the best in the MAC as is. Our colors and helmets and logos are awesome. That being said, our numbers are too freaking big...the first pic of BC would be a good template for size.
  19. I wonder how our players react to this kind of publicity. Is the media view of Akron football that terrible that if you lose to AKRON, you're team has hit rock bottom, a laughing stock?Since when did losing to us become college football's barometer of how sucky a team is?I don't know about you all, but I would be playing with a heavy chip on my shoulder if I was in a Zips uniform this season. Maybe I'm biased but I think we have some damn good players and they're on the verge of pulling together despite all the injuries. GO ZIPS.
  20. I want the Zips to look good in every possible way:Akron 34Army 13Our running backs go crazy this week guys, and the D shows up with a chip on their 3-3-5 shoulders!!!!!
  21. Very cool to get some more national publicity...GO ZIPS!!!!
  22. this board is also full of people who have so bought into the bs they've been fed the last 5 years that they're completely blind to reality. Luckily that disease is curable.... I was cured in about the middle of '07, hopefully some of you find the cure soon.I'm all for people having their opinions... I'm sick of the constant campaigning. I'm ready to leave this place. Why can't we just be fans? This is a message board. We discuss, argue, whine and talk about the team. This isn't a place to come and just blow smoke or be blind to reality.I don't understand what the problem is.Me neither! SeeTeeZipHysterical post....but at the same time, a little sad. This was a sad sad football weekend. And I probably would've made the same post if I hadn't waited 2 days to check this board. But hey, It was nice to be at the game with all my friends!!!Yours truly,Rubber Bowl Pond Yacht Club President
  23. Welcome Ballugirly!! Agee...the only place to tailgate is at the lot by the airport. Bring your skateboard or bmx bike as there's a great skatepark there. Should be wet and wild, in a pg 13 kinda way. Also agee that Barleyhouse and Ohio Brewing anchor a nice little group of places to hang out downtown, about 1/4 mile from campus. Here's to a great game.p.s. that huge shadow looming ominously over the stadium is a WRECKING BALL.
