  1. That's too bad. I wish him well. Monmouth NJ is a small school where he'll likely get a lot more playing time. Thanks for the info guys.
  2. Whatever happened to Brian Brikowski, the 2007 recruit from Freehold NJ???Looks like he transfered to Monmouth College or Kansas State. Anyone know why he transferred out?
  3. I'm from the same town as Ken Lolla- Brick NJ- and can attest that he is a fine person. I think Parker, Lolla and Porter are three excellent coaches but it seems like right now the recruiting is just off the charts.
  4. More terrific newz for Zippers Soccer.I haven't seen a game since my man Lolla left town, I will certainly be back, making the trip south for games this next season. Can't wait!!!!
  5. Can someone please post some screenshots of the construction site (one that isn't obstructed) for those of us who can't get the webcam at work??? Much appreciation,Scott in Cleveland
  6. Read about the visit to Rutgers.....ridiculous!!!Nice stadium though.
  7. I am really getting into the MAC Champioships at the Q. Each year you see more media, more attention, it's becoming a must see event. And I like the rivalries here, it's fun to hate on Miami, OU and especially Can't....in fact our rivalry with Can't is awesome, and could we carry on this great rivalry if we leave the MAC?To me a realistic, best case scenario is not for us to leave the MAC, but to see the conference improve as a whole. LIke to see the Chryst's leadership making more strides in that direction.
  8. Blog of guy who checked out over a hundred NCAA stadiumshttp://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...l%3Den%26sa%3DNCan't State: Dix Stadium Obviously one of the most unfortunately named stadiums in these contiguous United States, Dix Stadium is also one of the more unfortunate fields in Ohio. The "stadium" was opened in 1969 and has as of yet still not sold out for a game. If anyone is suprised that the Golden flushes cannot fill a 30,000 seat stadium, then I have some good news for you: Can't State plans on removing the seats from the North and South end of the field in order to shrink its size down a bit. The visiting side of the field was also the same seating capacity as that of my high school soccer field. The place is a dump, and to be honest, I don't know how Can't St. manages to continue on as a Div. I-A football team. I would imagine that renaming the stadium should be first on the list of things to do rather than shrinking its seating capacity, but I'm also lucky to be holding a bachelor's degree.
  9. My honest opinion, alcohol sales, legal AND illegal, are a much greater problem around a college campus than sales of "unusual" merchandise. And I also would rather have 4 Odd Corners (relocated of course) than one plasma alliance.
  10. Most of those Pitt fans sound idiotic. I would like to think that even though our fan base is much smaller, we are more like a family, classier and more level headed about college sports.
  11. In a downtown/campus filled with vacant lots, you cannot convince me that tearing down a perfectly good building is a good idea.Listen, I love that the UA is making great progress, but this decision by the city is just plain wrong.
  12. To my amazement I just found out that the Jillian's building was torn down. How could this happen? I know the place closed recently, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with that building. So much renovation went into there, I just don't get it. With so many crappy buildings in Akron, why are they tearing down perfectly good ones?
  13. My biggest problem with the Odd Corner was how shoddy it looked more than anything.
  14. I like Memoria Hall, and would love to see some kind of basketball game there. Exhibition maybe? Lots of room for intramurals. Sure Memorial could use some renovations, and the exterior needs some dressing up, but I see no reason to tear the place down. Rumor has it they will. I'm not sure if there is another building planned for there or just green space.
  15. Did somebody say we're running the Maryland I offense this year?
  16. Welcome to the Zips Joe.It's a really special time to be an Akron fan!!!!!Scott in Cleveland
  17. Wow, did anyone else read those 110 comments? The whole debate looks like a crisis of Jerry Springer proportions....JER-REE JER-REE JER-REE JER-REESounds like many in the community simply hate the University of Akron. Eminent Domain sucks, and is understandibly controversial, but the community desperately needs this stadium and the positve growth that comes with it. Some people evidently want the surrounding campus to resemble the sour mix of urban blight and appalachia.I just wish the U could've just handled all of this mess with Manny, Odd Corner, etc. behind closed doors.
  18. Wait, wasn't this the game where Akron lateralled the ball like 15 times and scored a winning (or tying) TD with no time left, only to have it called back? I thought I remember the final score being very close. I remember it was raining and the bowl was practically empty. Ha! Sadly, quite true! It's why we're such a close-knit community, a bunch of unbelievable diehards! But we're all gonna be able to say that we were here from the beginning - before being a Zips fan was the cool trend - before The Info is built and we average 25K a game and (eventually) crack into a Top 25 ranking!I believe my favorite Zip memory is also a loss. I loved the MAC championship game in Detroit, didn't we all. But I actually believe my favorite Zips memory is our narrow loss to nationally ranked (14th?) Virginia Tech at the Rubber Bowl about 15ish years ago. We were down by, oh, 10-14 points, maybe, with about 1 minute to go. No chance of winning, really, but it just seemed like everyone in the stadium was so proud of how well both our O and D had played up to that point, that no one in the stadium was down on the team at all. (I believe we may have lost in Blacksburg the previous year by 40, or something gawdawful like that.) Then Willie Spencer hit someone for a 20-25 yard TD pass and the Rubberbowl just absolutely exploded! Even though we still had no chance of actually winning the game. That's how sports should be - it's far from life and death. Everyone yelling and jumping and giving high-fives to absolute strangers even though we knew we were still gonna lose. That's the coolest experience of die hard Zips community I've ever experienced. Winning is easy (Buckeyes ); lots of frontrunners and posers there. That's human nature. But sticking through losing together, ah, now that's real community! That's ZipsNation! Zip for life!
  19. That is awesome.Let's give some props to our Zips Hixon and Blackburn.Go Domenik Go!!!!!!!!
  20. Ha ha, I'm not too old!!!! UA class of 95. Though I do suffer hip and joint pain from time to time.Seriously, the bricks made today are nowhere near as durable as old ones. That's why the old ones are worthlots of money. Fairport Harbor, a town in financial ruin, actually tore up all their historic brick streets andsold them off to the highest bidder- a town with more money. And if you saw the brick pavers at North Coast Harbor, or even some at jacobs field, you may think twice before spending money on them. Some you can hardly read.
  21. Do you know if the bricks will be from the street? The reason I ask is that bricks made today are nowhere near as durable as they once were. The ones in the street are nearly indestructible.Just check out North Coast Harbor in Cleveland and the names have already worn off despite being set in the 1990's.
  22. Gates and Taylor = Hall of Fame material.
  23. Way to go Domenik!!!!!!!!Ironically the Broncos haven't had a TD return in 100 years.
  24. Anyone hear what will become of the brick pavers on Nash St???? It would be great if they could be saved and somehow made a part of the stadium project.
