  1. Akron Could Be Dangerous OSU Opponenthttp://www.bucknuts.com/news/story.php?article=1630Also here is a cool excerpt:* Tressel named OSU speed coordinator and Olympic track gold medalist Butch Reynolds as the honorary captain for this week’s game. Reynolds, an Akron native, earned Olympic gold (1600-meter relay) and silver (400-meter dash) in track. Reynolds is a 1991 OSU graduate. He was a track All-American at OSU and performed in three Olympic games for the U.S. “Butch is a guy that has great passion for Ohio State and he's from Akron and that's a special thing to him that we're playing Akron,” Tressel said. “He works intimately with these guys and he's one of the greatest athletes in the history of Ohio State. That honor for him is special and I think our kids will respond to that because they have a lot of compassion for him and appreciate his hard work, so I think it will be a fun thing.”
  2. Don't wait another 20 years to come back!!!!
  3. Wow, tough one....at first I would say take the big upset. But then I remembered how cool it was heading out to Detroit with thousands of Zip fans for the MAC Championship....I'll go with the upset. We just won the MAC, while we haven't beaten OSU in over 100 years.
  4. Great article!!!!p.s. the Columbus sports station 1490am had Steve French on Wed for a nice interview.
  5. Did they lift that editorial from the Can't Stater?
  6. My mistake...I've never seen a post moved there by the moderator.
  7. Agree with Zipgrad01. Think this forum would be improved by "smack talk" section where people can go nuts.
  8. Cicero I think the key for each young QB is to minimize mistakes. Of course, your guys have Beckman surrounded by plenty of talent in the running game....Saw a bit of the App St. game last night. The body language of the Mich. players early on suggested to me that they weren't really up for the game. I think Tressel is going to use that huge upset as a lesson to try and keep his team focused!!!! Anything can happen. Hopefully Brookhart will have some tricks up his sleeve to help make this a great game. GO ZIPS
  9. To clarify Buckeyeryn, we have a long football history, but there is a real disconnect in that regard. Blame it on the perception of Akron not being a winning program. I have been going to games since I moved to Ohio in 1990, and I don't know of any game day traditions. Not one. I am sure there were common knowledge traditions at one time, but those were lost to history. One thing I do know, John Heisman of Heisman Trophy fame was our first coach- a fact that I think is really cool and not played up enough. But the cool thing for us Akron fans is that with a brand new stadium in the works, and renewed interest in our program, we have the opportunity to create and build on our own traditions right now. Or even rediscover some of the lost tradition.I work in Columbus a lot, and I'm jealous at all the fan and media attention given to Buckeye football. I don't care to ever see the Zips overtake the Bucks in popularity, I don't mind us being a relative underdog, and I'm actually glad we don't have trillions of bandwagon fans with ZIPS apparel on every streetcorner....but sometime in my life I would sure love to see and experience Akron getting just an ounce of the excitement that surrounds OSU and its traditions.
  10. Sadly, I think the lack of response to this post speaks volumes about the history of our program.
  11. LETS GO ZIPS (CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP)
  12. One of the great things I remember about the 2001 game is that the Zips didnot play at all like they were intimidated by the Buckeyes or the hostile environment. Tressle said that Akron's lines were tough and held their ground. It's going to be interesting to see how our new Zips hold up to the pressure.
  13. Hey Ryno, good call on BYUStanfordWakeI would love to see decent, well known visiting teams that normally do not play in the region ie vs OSU. Regional teams with a big following ie Marshall are good too.
  14. GP1, sorry I have to call you out on your comment"WRs and TEs are better now as a group"what does that mean exactly? For WR I think most people would much rather have Schifino (an NFL draft pick) and Matt Cherry over unproven Jabari Arthur and company. And your comment re: Frye is just too ridiculous to debate.
  15. Sounds pretty inventive to me. I wonder if J.D. will run anything that is unique this year, or in the near future, given the mobility of the qb's.
  16. Anyone want to explain exactly what the nature and philosophy is on that offense. I remember the Zips getting a lot of press for using it, but it was before I followed college football....
  17. Michigan State, Hawaii, San Diego State, Rutgers, Pitt, Marshall....
  18. ALL RIGHT!!!!! WAY TO GO DH!!!!!!!!
  19. Strange article. At first I'm just glad the ABJ is covering the school. But I'm not sure I want more articles like this one. Weird. The tone of it seems to depict the MAC and Akron Football with a condescending, second rate "special olympics" quality. needless plug for the no show mayor:The new stadium will join Canal Park and other projects inspired by Mayor Don Plusquellic to make Akron into a place where you can tell your friends, just like I did: Hey, you really gotta see it. Heck, the way that sentence reads one can interpret that the mayor inspired the new stadium!!!!! I think the ABJ may be run by the mayor's office.strangest comment:Nor should this stadium be about attracting better athletes and helping Zips coach J.D. Brookhart on the recruiting trail.Okay, I know Pluto's trying to make a bigger point here, but this sentence is just absured.
  20. I can't understand why there isn't more pressure by the media to find out what this stadium will look like. The whole project is like something out of area 51...very secretive. Hardly any official news but a lot of hearsay. That concerns me. I really want to like this stadium.
  21. Hopefully Charlie will get to start this year behind a better O-line, and the Browns will have a good problem like the Rivers/Brees scenario over in San Diego. But I promise you, if they start Quinn and he looks bad- a virtual probability regarding rookie QB's- just you watch the impatient Browns fans tear him apart (Tim Couch anyone?) and Romeo and Savage will be fired. Remember, there's going to be a lot more pressure on Quinn, much more than there ever was on Frye.
