  1. Game will be closer than the score indicates....BSU 41AKR 24Our tired D gives up a few late TD's to the best Offense in the MAC. Hope I'm wrong!!!
  2. Okay, let me get this straight. You don't like Elton Alexander, so you're not going to voice your support of the Zips to Ohio's most important newspaper? It makes no difference whether you care for a reporter or not. Reporters don't own the media. They come and go. The perception of much of the local media is that nobody cares for the MAC. That's why they ignore us. It's all about appealing to their customer base, selling papers and generating ad revenue.Carrying a grudge against an entire newspaper does in no way accomplish, what I am assuming, is the common goal of all of us on this board to get more people interested in the University of Akron. That's why as much as the Beacon Journal has ignored Akron the last 20 years, when they do publish something- anything on the Zips, you let them know they're doing the right thing.
  3. That's a defeatist attitude Captain. Trust me, we can make a difference in the amount of coverage we receive from local media. Trust me...Elton Alexander is on our board daily. I hope he appreciates us linking to his column.Commenting on his column on the PD site won't change anything. Our coverage is what it is.
  4. Come on Zips Nation, there are ZERO comments after this article from Monday. The newspapers monitor the amount of comments after a story to gage community interest, and having not one comment makes us look irrelevant. We can't complain about lack of coverage and not do our part.It takes 30 seconds to thank the Plain Dealer. Let them know you support Akron and the MAC, and want to see more articles like this.
  5. I think the website not including a mailing address to buy season tickets may support your claim 72Roo. I do think the U does a terrible job of promoting its football heritage. "Be-a-part. From-the-start" jingle is terrible. However, that being said, I actually kinda like the season ticket art. I like the fact that kids are drawing Zippy.
  6. Frye looked good against one of the finest defenses in football.Very nice to see that game last night. He had time to throw and just played so much more confidence. It def shows he has a place in this league.
  7. Great news. The rumors finally have some support!!!!GO ZIPS SOCCER!!!!!
  8. All right....one more complaint for now and that's it.There was no mention on the web page of a 5 dollar handling charge for each season ticket. I expect this crap from Ticketmaster, but come on guys. I'm not a student anymore so I'm not eligible for fifty dollars in b.s. fees lol. Thats my precious beer money we're talking about.
  9. I am sending my ticket money in right now!! I can't wait. Me plus 9 other new season ticket holders for 2008 and 2009 Foundation Package. We got the General Admission seats, figuring we would have guests each game day and we would all want to sit together at Infocision. It's gonna be an exciting next two seasons to say the least.GO ZIPPERSMy Akron complaint of the day: The gozips website neglected to include their mailing address for ordering/paying for season tickets!!!! Come on AD guys, lets get it together!!!!
  10. DH just nailed down the 4th receiver spot with an exclamation point last nite!!!!But not one mention of Akron at all!!!!I guess they don't do the player introductions any more. Nor do they list the colleges at the bottom either. Well, when Brady came in it said NOTRE DAME, but that was the only school mentioned.Even my high school got publicity for 5 seconds, as one of the fans had the jersey on. But nope, no mention of the Zips and I barely even saw Chase play.
  11. Oh yeah, maybe they can both hit him at the same time!!!Nah, I don't want Josh to get hurt lol. But the fact that Hixon and Blackburn are both starting, that will be some good publicity for "The University of Akron" when they intro the offense and defense. In fact, this might be the first time two Akron grads start for the same team???
  12. Was just checking the Giants message board. Looks like both Hixon and Chase Blackburn will be under the microscope vs. the Browns (and their shiny new brown pants.)The Giants LOVE Chase on special teams, how he plays with so much heart. But the question of whether he's starting material has always been up in the air. He gets his chance tonite.http://boards.giants.com/forums/thread/904841.aspx Likewise, the G-men are missing their top 2 or 3 receivers and Hixson has been getting a TON of plays in training camp. He's looked very good so far, and like Chase, Domenick is a fan favorite because of his all out play on spectial teams.Come on former Zippers!!!!
  13. The U isn't going to pay 3.1 million, at least not until the court of appeals makes them. But I would guess if mediation fails, and it goes that route, the cost would come down by the appeals court ruling.I sure hope they get this whole thing resolved soon. Manny can get his money, move across the street somewhere, and we can have some cool new dorms fronting Exchange. IMO, that why the Nemers and their attorneys don't want to go to circuit of appeals and want UofA to pay 3.1 mil before they rule.
  14. You said it MDZip. There is a lot of good publicity out there about how Akron has transformed the campus and changing for the better. Good things are happening. From the Buckeye's board!!!I've heard alot of GREAT things coming out of Akron visitors lately. I hear the campus is coming along very nice and the stadium is going to be a huge addition to the program. The campus used to just be in the thick of everything but now I guess the campus is pretty closed off from the town itself now so it feels more like a College Campus.I can definately see Akron pulling in some talent such as Torrence or maybe those tweener between BCS/Mid Major recruits.
  15. Most excellent!!!A class act and a fine rep for the U.And I forgot that he saved the Giants by recovering his teammates fumble in the NFC championship game vs. The Pack!!!!! That was a nice read. Good for Hixon!
  16. Very interesting to see MacGyver escape from Memorial Hall during the commercial break!!!Or was that Kolbe..... This is for GP1 only. I couldn't find the "38 Direct Fake Throwback" from wild card weekend. But that one might have one the game for them too.Masterful use of trick plays to win at the highest level.
  17. I'm constantly asking people in stores in ne ohio if/when they will have any Akron gear. We have the best logo in college sports and we can't find anything, anywhere. I agree with you, but I own a pair of Akron flip flops. I find it odd when I can buy a Lowes gift card in line that has OSU, OU and BG logos on them, but not Akron...IN AKRON!!!
  18. Strange....I've never read anywhere that the University was even involved at all with Roo Brew. I just assumed the school would be looking the other way with any legal "confusion in the marketplace" over consumers mistaking that the School was sponsoring the beer.If a school can show that an average consumer could mistake the Roo Brew as being a school sponsored product ie similar logo, same colors, etc. the U could legally block Thirsty Dog from selling it. However if the school IS involved, or simply grants permission for similar logo, school colors, etc. then no problemo.
  19. Thanks for the brewery info!!!! Syracuse Suds is very good--they have a few large TVs to watch college football either before or after the game.Empire Brewing is excellent--food is better than Syracuse Suds IMHO but is more brew pub than sports bar. Both are in Armory Square.
  20. YSU/AKRONToo much risk, too little reward for the Zippers!!!(Sorry eGuins) That goes for the casual fan too. They would rather come to see us play a name team than even the other conference teams (Can't excluded).
  21. Beer sales....keep it local. Northeast Ohio is a beer mecca.Great LakesThirsty DogOhio BrewingHoppin FrogWilloughbyetc etc etc
  22. THis is brilliant!!!!!
  23. Kid sounds really positive and ready to play!!!!
  24. It's exactly this type of outside the box thinking that we need right now.
  25. Thanks for the pics p.s. I remember walking on the bridge to Auburn, and it was constructed so poorly that you could rip off large chunks of the "concrete" with your bare hands- just like the incredible hulk!!!!! I think the entire section of campus was made of sand and glue.
