Ha ha OU, your coach on wikipedia:On Saturday, November 26, 2005, Solich was arrested by Athens City Police for driving under the influence when he was found slumped over the wheel of his car asleep facing the wrong way on a one-way street. On Tuesday, November 29, 2005 Solich pleaded no contest in an Athens Courthouse, and on the next day Solich was placed on probation for the remainder of his contract and given three rules set by the school administration that he must follow in order for him to remain the head football coach at Ohio University. On June 2, 2006

Yep, I was at the game too. Frye made some mistakes, and some good plays too.See that TD pass to Winslow?
-
Behind a good offensive line Frye would be doing fantastic, and the Browns would have a winning record. Come on, have you all seen the Browns? How many interceptions went right off the hands of Braylon Edwards or the facemask of Reuben Droughns?A bad O-line and RB could make Steve Young look like crap, and a good O-line and RB allowsTrent Dilfer to win the Super Bowl.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:"When I decided to come to college, I wasn't coming for the college life, or the college experience," he said. "I came to college to get educated, not to live the college experience - to get my education for when I get out into the real world."HERE'S MY ANALYSIS OF THE SUBJECT:From my real world experience, it's people like that who get passed up for promotions. They can't relate to people, or have fun. His lack of a college experience will haunt him for the rest of his life. At age 37 he will divorce his wife and buy a corvette. Driving the city streets alone at night, yet trying to score with high school chicks.

Big Girl State University!!! Ha ha......
-
It's no fun having your rival be such a terrible team for so long. I'm on the verge of putting together a petition urging the administration at Can't State to invest in the footbal team!!!
-
I actually really liked the blue sleeves/gold pants look. I'm not a big fan of changing uniforms every year. Let's find something that looks classic and good and stick with it. Blue pants are fine once in a while.

I wonder what newspaper Charlie's talking about...."At Akron, we could upset some bigger team, and I knew that when I opened the Sunday newspaper, it was going to be Ohio State on the front, no matter what they had done, and we'd be buried on some inside page. So, definitely, you develop a little bit of a chip on your shoulder. And to tell you the truth, I always want that chip to be there, just as long as it doesn't get too big. That's a motivator for me. It's part of who I am." Please ABJ!!! More Zips and more MAC.

This is not good. I'm embarassed that the Zips, and other MAC schools, are on this list that the USA Today calls "the dismal dozen."8/17/2006Schools scramble to fill more seats, retain I-A statusby Jack Carey and Thomas O'TooleUSA TodayA dozen schools will start the 2006 season with the clock ticking on their status as full-fledged members of the NCAA's highest football playing division. And when the season kicks off in about two weeks, it will be important for those schools to get the turnstiles spinning. The NCAA's attendance requirement for continued full fledged status in the Football Bowl Subdivision (Div I-A) can be met if a school averages 15,000 in actual or paid attendance for all home games one time during a rolling two year period.Twelve teams fell short of that goal last year and were sent a "courtesy letter: by the NCAA, reminding them of the requirement, NCAA spokesman Erik Christianson said.SIX OF THE TEAMS ARE IN THE MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE. Three are in the WAC.Losing records are a common trait of many of the teams. The doxen had an average winning percentage of .259 last season.Eastern Michigan spokesman Jim Streeter said the school, last nationally at 5,219 spectators a game, is making a concerted effort to reach out to corporate customers, youth groups, church groups, students and alumni."We will find a way to get tickets sold," he said. "You can count tickets paid for, even if the purchaser is not there. Although we want them to come."Bowling Green, which went 6-5 in 2005, just missed the 15,000 cutoff, averaging 14,929."Our attendance hadn't been below 15,000 in four years," said spokesman J.D. Campbell. "WE DIDN'T PLAY A HOME GAME UNTIL OCT. 1, AND WEATHER IS AN IMPORTANT FACTOR IN THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY."THAT WON'T BE A PROBLEM THIS YEAR. THE FALCONS PLAY THREE HOME GAMES IN SEPTEMBER, INCLUDING THE OPENER AGAINST WISCONSIN AT CLEVELAND BROWNS STADIUM, WHICH COUNTS AS A HOME CONTEST FOR BG, CAMPBELL SAID. THE SCHOOL IS ANTICIPATING 30,000-40,000 FOR THE BADGERS CONTEST.Temple, in anticipation of joining the MAC next year, is changing its scheduling to lay more teams from cities closer to Philadelphia and is marketing tickets more aggressively. If schools do not meet the requirement this season, they will receive a letter of non compliance which triggers a 10-YEAR PERIOD DURING WHICH TIME THEY MUST MEET THE REQUIREMENT OR BE PLACED ON RESTRICTED MEMBERSHIP. THAT WOULD RESTRICT THEM FROM BOWL OPPORTUNITIES, THOUGH ONLY AKRON OF THE 12 SCHOOLS QUALIFIED FOR A BOWL LAST SEASON. AND IT WAS THE ZIPS FIRST BOWL GAME."Should they get placed in restricted membership they would have to correct the deficiency the following year orf else they would lose their status as a Div-1 institution," Christianson said.WAC commisioner Karl Benson said his schools knew the letters were coming and anticipates an attendance increase."They've all put addicitonal dollars into marketing and promotion," he said. "I'm confident that our member institutions will meet the challenge."The dismal dozenBowling GreenLouisiana-MonroeBall StateTempleNew Mexico StateSan Joese StateUtah StateAkronRice BuffaloCan't StateEastern Michigan

Michael Brady is an American icon. And yes, he will be submitting his architecture renderings of the new stadium.
-
Okay, I am starting to think that we are going about this all wrong. Let's think outside the box a little. We're too caught up in thinking about when/how/where we're building a new stadium. When instead, we should be thinking about how we can hurry up and demolish the current stadium. Sure I love the old crumbling prison-like Rubber Bowl. There will always be good memories. But the sooner we can band together and carry out this necessary act of nonviolent sabotage the sooner we get a brand new stadium. It's called "forcing the issue." So I vow to grab 2 pieces of concrete on my way out after each home game. **Sure, by myself this doesn't amount to much. It would surely require a team effort. But if all of Zips Nation bands together, we can get the job done in no time. Who knows, maybe in the meantime we'll get some games up in Cleveland. I bet that stadium would look awesome on ESPN U.As Mike Brady once said, "by ourselves we can carry buckets. But together, we can drain rivers." **note: Please have regard for the safety of others...do not grab "structural, load bearing rubble" while there are still people in the stands

The Cincy stadium actually looks pretty cool, like it has lots of character. Thanks XU.

Dix Stadium Part IIOh man, that would be a nightmare. Let's all say it together, "that is not gonna happen...this is not the Akron of 1980, the admin is too smart to let that hapen!!" I would rather wait even longer to make sure this is whole stadium concept is done right. Will this be a flexible, evolving plan with public input? (I hope so) Or are they going to suddently force everything on us, with all the major decisions having been made in secret???
-
The stadium really should have dorms and retail attached. I am looking at Cleveland Stadium right now from my office. I can assure you all it's as vacant and lifeless as always, save for a few days a year.

Any ABJ coverage of spring football?
scottditzen replied to LosAngelesZipFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
Maybe if the ABJ sports section was longer than 2 pages there would be some room for the Zips and F l a s h e s. But then they may have to cut back on the 22 pages of used car ads. -
Not to get too far off topic, but I am sure there are rich alumni out there. But are there ANY famous grads of Akron? This may be one area where Can't has us beat. Then again, anyone who can color within the lines can be a Can't grad. :macc:
-
Blue and Gold you are EXACTLY RIGHT about the stadium. It SHOULD be unique, and in the vein of Camden Yards and the Jake.C Florida stadium is nice, but wouldn't fit Akron's personality. It's too semetrical and suburban looking. We should have a boxier structure that conforms more to the city block, along Exchange. Red brick facade, brick streets, clock tower etc. would be awesome indeed.Seriously people, check out Case Western Reserve's new place and see how they've integrated their field with the campus and attached dorms. This is a natural starting point that Akron can build from. I can just picture that huge Akron Beacon Journal loge right now, lol.

Our current uniforms are GREAT. Don't change to stupid Panther stripes. And for petes sake don't change the helmet logo. CHANGE NOTHING!!!!Let's be more like the Celtics, Browns, Yankees, Steelers, GB and Lakers and build a tradition and not like the Cavs, Nets, Padres, etc. who change jerseys practically each day. :macc:
-
Thanks for the help everyone. Great points about the stadium too.Z-Rifle there are some similarities from my lousy description, but the hat I saw was very different than that; the roo logo was along the side of it. If I remember correctly, the hat was solid blue.I'll be in Akron today and scope out that Lids though!!! **********Attention U of A...I am ready to fork over $$ to help build a new stadium. Please just officially announce something positive.
-
At the Panini's game vs. Nevada I saw a couple of people with baseball hats that featured the full Kangaroo logo along the side. They are sweet. I've check Lids.com and gozips.com and can't find them. One girl said she bought her hat in Toledo!!!/Anyone know about these or have any leads?? p.s. lets sign a petition to have the official school merch store keep some better hours. I've driven to campus several times only to find them closed.
