  1. Cribbs, Frye make friendly wagerZac Jackson, Staff Writer09.29.2006When the Browns' plane lands in Northern California Saturday afternoon, the first thing Joshua Cribbs plans to do is check his text messages. The second thing -- Cribbs hopes, anyway -- will be to look up Charlie Frye and gloat. Cribbs will be checking for scores of the University of Akron-Can't State game (2 p.m. ET, Fox Sports Ohio). Four times from 2001-04, Frye quarterbacked Akron against Cribbs' quarterbacked Can't teams.Frye won three of the four. Here is the link to the full storyCome on Zips hook ya brotha up!!!

  2. One problem that I think we'll have in dominating the MAC consistently is obtaining solid recruits year in and out.  It seems to me that Ohio has more div IA schools than most states thus much more competition.  Oh course OSU gets first dibs on top recruits then Akron, Cinci., Miami, BGSU, Tol., Ohio, and if you count it as Div. IA, Can't.  Also, Pit., Marshal and a number of other big schools near the Ohio border to compete with.  Certainly, Ohio is high profile and a number of programs come here and cherry pick our prospects as well.  However, with new training facility and new stadium, perhaps we have more to offer.
If this is true then achieving an Ohio State like status will never be achieved.....it is like a vicious cycle that some feel will never be broken..OSU always gets the best recruits then the rest is divided amongst the lowly MAC.
  3. I still feel our biggest problem is our o-line. For some reason, Gtsy doesn't get much time, and the holes are not there for our backs.Speaking of offensive playcalling, why haven't we tried a receiver pass? Arthur is a former QB with a great arm. I would love to see it tossed to him, and let him pass it.Our halfback option is scouted. Our wr pass, if there is one, isn't.
Buckzip, you just revealed the game winning play in this years bowl game!!!
  4. To me the MAC is a funny conference, teams in the past have show great promise, won big games and then slid back down to either mediocracy or the cellar. For example BGSU, Toledo, and Miami of Ohio, Traditionally pretty good football teams. Ten years ago Eastern Michigan and NIU were very good as well.Click here for story detailsNow it appears to be Akron's time for greatness (As long as things continue as they are, which we all hope it does). With that being said, How do we maintain or exceed our current greatness? How do we acheive some level of consistency like a Boise St, Virginia Tech, or Kansas State? How did Gonzaga do it in Basketball? Can it be done? When you have factors like Ohio State, The MAC Conference, and the Big Ten. Why hasn't Cinci done it yet?I think the answer lies in gettting into a bigger conference. And the only way to get into a bigger conference is to win consistenly. Now if we use that line of logic....why hasn't it worked for BGSU or Toledo or Miami? Did they miss their opportunity to jump ship into a bigger conference? Do Marshall and Central Florida also share this line of thinking, and decided to take lumps now for a chance for a bigger future? (personally I feel it was a lateral move at best going to Conference USA but oh well). We have touched on this subject in the past but never really got into it.I am just curious about some of your opinions out there.....

  5. Whether we win or not we should be mention!!! We are a Division ! football team, if this is how we are going to be treated why not go back down to 1AA or divsion3 they aren't mentioned either! I swear this is crap!!Bobby said it best if OSU started going 4 and 8 we would have more fans coming to watch a 10-2 Akron team!!

  6. Please calm down so Can't beat a bad Miami team coming off a big loss and then beat a really bad BG team with a Frosh QB. Can't gets killed by Minnesota team that the Zips could beat at the Rubber Bowl. And an Army team that will win 5 or 6 games this year. The Zips will be ready. Jarivs will get some yards but nothing huge so the flushes QB will have to try to win the game. Not going to happen. And then we will see how great that Can't Pass defense aganist Arthur, Harvey and the gang really is.Zips roll big time!!!!! :screwks:  :screwks:
I hate to burst your bubble, but the 2005 Akron team lost to Miami and Army. They also beat a BG team with an inexperienced QB. The whole thing sounds very familiar.I hate to say it, but the MAC Championship Game could very well be Can't State vs. Western Michigan which will draw about 10,000 fans total.
That would be very disappointing. I feel exactly like i did for the Central Michigan game, concerned!!! We should win this week as we should have won against Central, but our kicking game needs to step it up big time. Does anyone out there realize that the kicker missed 2 extra points and 2 feild goals? Any 2 and we win the game!
  7. I am not to concerned about this game. I feel that even with poor special teams play we will beat them. Some of you obviously don't take into consideration to how many points we put up when the offense is clicking. I am only concerned for our field goal and PAT teams, they need to improve greatly. The kick return and punt return (thanks to Harvey) is the only special teams phase of the game that is in order.

  8. I say atleast 30K, no matter what size it is it should be expandable but I think 30 is the minimum. We will have continued success, with the improvements on campus, enrollment is up, athletics competiton level is up, it is only natural for attendance to follow as well. I think 50 is high for this market area. Hell I don't think Indiana and Illnoise have that many in attendance and they are in the big ten, we won't pull those kind of numbers in the MAC, Big East or Conference USA. And if the time ever came that we were bringing 40K + to the game we will be renovating this one to something bigger. And finally bleachers are for high schools bowls are for college!!!

  9. I am not going to write him off just yet not everyone plays well day in day out if he did he would be at USC, OSU, Michigan, etc. You gotta work with what ya got, and coach him up. Remember guys this receiving group as a whole is very young, we don't know if they are running the right routes, Getsy could see man and the receivers see a tight zone and that could change the route. As far as not looking off receivers, I think he tends to get to comfortable when a certain receiver gets hot. I am still waiting for Arthur's break out game...in fact I just want him to have a decent game. And we all know the o line in inconsistent, I think with all those issues we shouldn't be quick to jump on his back.
