Unfortunately most people will still think he made the right decision because of the conference affiliation. I am hoping a new stadium will help us retain a few more local prospects that pick a BCS bottom feeder over a MAC elite.
-
Just seen Zippy on an ESPN commercial. The commercial has Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings and it's about him having an assistant and Zippy is in the waiting room at the very end waiting to be seen. You can plainly see Fear the Roo!!Go Zips!!!
-
Damn I hate the fact I can't see this game! Gooooooo Zips!!! 42-28. Seriously when was the last time we scored 42 points?

Watching Ball State vs Navy and...
Ryno aka Menace replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
Wow! What a difference half time adjustments can make for a team. I hope our coaches take notes. -
This offense is potent. They move the ball at will. Either Navy is that bad or Ball state is that good. And after watching Dontae Love and Nate Davis...these two are play makers. I really need to see something from my zips this weekend to make me feel better about us vs them.
-
Option 1. NC State repeat baby!! The Zips send another BCS coach that's on the hot seat, into the job hunting market!!! SU Fans will start screaming, "Look how far we have fallen, we can't beat the Zips!" And I will have my smug smile on my face when co-workers ask me how my Zips did this weekend, and I say they won of course!Option 2 We manage to lose a game that we should have won a la Cinci and I do this to my co-workers instead

You don't have to do anything illegal dummy someone can accuse you. Have you ever heard of mistaken identity or revenge or just plain crazy ass people in this world you could be a victim of wrong place wrong time. So every time in your life you have run into trouble it was your fault? I didn't think so.
-
Don't forget it is also about money, those bowls are within traveling distance for SBC fans, so they would have a better turn out most likely, than say a 6-6 Ohio U traveling that far south.
-
I love all the progress that is being made, I just hope it isn't covered with snow when the recruits come this fall......hey strange things happen in N.E.O.
-
Some of that is a matter of convenience as well. Is it easier for WMU to play Mich and MSU or Syracuse and UCONN? Granted, plenty of these games are pains for the vistors (namely anything in WI or MN), but geographically, the Big 10 makes more sense than the Big East more often.Exactly and to add to your comment, most MAC schools need the money. And you'll get a bigger paycheck from Big10 than from Big East.
-
Good Luck DH, take advantage of this opportunity. Sometimes a backup is given an opportunity and then they are permanently know as the starter.
-
Ya know what I saw this yesterday, and that was my first thought right away......another opportunity missed. It seems like every other conference is doing things to improve itself but the MAC. The MAC thinks a new logo is enough.
-
You guys gotta remember one thing, these "payday" games aren't just about the money they are also about getting recruits. Kids are not gonna want to come here if we don't play any notable teams. Some kids would like to play against team that snubbed them others simply want a chance to prove they can play with the big boys. Take head from Appalachian State, one big win can do wonders for your program. The amount of national exposure they received for beating Michigan, you can't put a price tag on that.

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?slug=ap...p&type=lgns6-6 record and you get an extension until 2013? Talk about rewarding mediocrity! JD has nothing to worry about then. That program is not all that. I don't expect them to finish in the top 4 of the east. Akron, Miami, Can't, BG, Temple, all are better than OU to me.

Considering the number of times Akron over achieves versus the number of times we under achieve, can you blame them? -
A quote..."He chose Akron over Bowling Green and Colorado State but left because of offensive changes resulting from a coaching switch, Dana Hakes said."What coaching change?

Boldface 2 me are toss ups!Week 1 (Saturday, Aug. 30) - @Wisconsin: L - I am hoping this is competitive but I think Wisky is out to prove they can win the B10 AND since we played them tough last time they won't take us lightly.Week 2 (Saturday, Sep. 6) - @Syracuse: W/L - They were terrible last year, but they didn't have their sensational running back Akron's own Delone Carter. I have read that he is healthy and hungry. Week 3 (Saturday, Sep. 13) - Ball State: L - This is a loss Ball State is good!Week 4 (Saturday, Sep. 20) - @Army: W - This will be a win period.Week 5 (Saturday, Sep. 27) - Cincinnati: L - They finished 3rd in a conference a lot of us wanna be in.Week 6 (Saturday, Oct. 4) - Can't: L - It's at there place and we usually trade wins and losses. Week 7 (Saturday, Oct. 11) - Bowling Green: W - We always win one we shouldn't and this will be it!!!Week 8 (Saturday, Oct. 18) - @Eastern Michigan: W- I don't understand why some of you think they are not the basement dweller of the MAC, they had 4 wins last year. NIU=terrible, Howard=terrible, western michigan= lucky, CMU=last game of season, resting players for the MAC Championship game.Week 9 (Saturday, Oct. 25) - Bye WeekWeek 10 (Saturday, Nov. 1) - Second Bye Week. This is stupid. but we may need it if we are banged up or are on the cusp of having a Week 11 (Wednesday, Nov. 5) - Toledo: W With 2 weeks to prepare this better be a win!!!! Week 12 (Thursday, Nov. 12) - Buffalo: This should be a win, it should of been a win last year.Week 13 (Saturday, Nov. 22) - @Ohio: This will be a battle with us losing a close one.Week 14 (Friday, Nov. 28) - @Temple: We had these punks beat last year, we should win it this year.If we can split the toss ups. Then we should be 5-7 bye bye JD! sorry.

Well if YSU seen him play "then" pulled their offer I would be concerned if we didn't do the same. -
I don't know about the rest of you but I plan on buying a crap load of stuff to support sales.

Is that a fact?Because you state it so matter-of-factly.I'm willing to bet that you quite wrong.I think most people who you categorize as whiners or complainers are not so much anti-eminent domain as they are pro-property rights. All I have ever asked for by people on this site is to simply acknowledge (as I have) that we are not objective observers on this issue. We want a stadium. We are biased. If Waste Management Corp convinced the City of Akron to take hundreds of homes and businesses through eminent domain to put in a land fill, I think your perspective might change a little.I see where you are coming from and understand your point but please tell me that you don't believe that after his business pays supplies, employees, taxes, etc. that he is making 3 million dollars...ever! Hypothetically lets say he makes 40K a year off that place a year he would have to own and run it for 75 years!! He don't make 40 and he damn sure won't be running the pub for 75 years.

Good point. I'll do you one better. Our goal should be to win the division. As a lifelong Steelers fan, I understand the importance of winning the division. See below. The Steelers organization has figured out what almost every other team in the NFL can't figure out. Build a team to win your division, not the Super Bowl, and you stand a better shot at winning the Super Bowl than the teams building to win the Super Bowl. Lewis was brought to the Bengals to build a team to win the Super Bowl.....they have one playoff appearance which they lost. The Browns are building a team to win the Super Bowl......they have zero playoff appearances and had a chance to make the playoffs last year and couldn't beat a divisional team late in the season and it blew their chance to make the playoffs. In order to win the Super Bowl, you must first make the playoffs. The sure way to make the playoffs is to win your division. A good way to win your division is to go undefeated or lose only one game in divisional matchups. The Steelers do this a lot. This is not rocket science. The Steelers aren't flushy, but they have a team that competes well in the AFC North in bad weather. Once they make the playoffs, anything can happen including winning three road games in a row to make the Super Bowl a couple of years ago.Getting back to the Zips. Let's win the division and let the chips fall where they may. Going undefeated or losing only one game in the MAC East gives the Zips a good shot at Detroit. Once they get to Detroit, anything can happen like the year we beat NIU. Post season play should be the goal. We can have as few as 6 wins and make Detroit (see Miami last year).Exactly and to add a little I don't want to come across as a pessimist by setting a low goal when you look at the grand scheme of things. GP1 you stated what I was trying to say only alot better! -
The purpose of this tread is to debunk false statements you have heard, or ask general questions that you have concerning the new stadium or U of A in general. This whole eminent domain, odd corner, Nemers stuff has gotten me confused and concerned. I just don't get how someone living in the city of Akron is opposed to improvements. Don't people realize that a better university with bring more business to the city. You would think that anything that makes your city better you would be all for. Some questions I have are...Why do people have such a disconnection or dislike with the university? To me is seems unwarranted. Is it like this for Marshall, Youngstown St., Ball State or any other MAC school? (schools equal to us in size)What killed the university's attendance from the Acme Zip days till now? 20K at 1AA move up to 1A and down to 12K A Lack of a sponsor did this? atleast 5K could stick through the growing pains of moving up.People say stuff like it's a second rate college. Why? And if you really feel that way why are you opposed to improvements. Tearing down old homes and building a new stadium will help with that image. I love watching Monday Night football and hearing Jason Taylor University of AKron! My attempt to debunk myths...The stadium will cause tuition to go up. No it is privately funded and not to mention a state wide freeze on tuition hikes. The freeze hike thing is something I didn't know!Lastly....For those defending Nemer about picking on the little guy and all but lets be reasonable. His "business" plus property value included won't add up to 3 million if that place stayed open for 100 years. What is Nemers property worth? And he was awarded 3 million? Convince me that is not excessive! As far as appeal goes it is the right thing to do,I just fear it is a bad PR move to appeal.

Is a conference shake-up happening sooner than later?

For those of you who think Marshall going to Conference USA was a bad move..http://herdzone.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/s.../053008aaa.htmlMen's Basketball Reports 14th Largest Average Attendance Increase in Nation Nearly 1,500 More Fans Per Game in Donnie Jones' First Season at Marshall Marshall averaged nearly 1,500 more fans per game last season than in 2006-07. May 30, 2008HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University men's basketball program recorded the 14th largest average attendance increase from the previous year in the nation, according to the NCAA, with 1,498 more Thundering Herd fans at the Cam Henderson Center per game in 2007-08.Marshall drew an average crowd of 5,042 at its 17 home games in 2007-08, its largest in seven seasons and nearly 1,500 more per game than in 2006-07 (3,544).Marshall, which posted its first winning season since 2000-01, saw 85,710 fans walk through the Henderson Center turnstiles in head coach Donnie Jones' first season with the Herd in 2007-08. The upsurge of 1,498 more fans per game is the largest increase from the previous season at MU since former Herd coach Billy Donovan's first season at Marshall in 1994-95 (2,449).The Herd went 13-4 at home last season and saw game crowds top 5,000-plus seven times, including a sellout versus eventual national finalist Memphis.Marshall's per game attendance increase is the third best in Conference USA behind Memphis (2,221 - 4th) and UCF (2,195 - 5th). Southern California (2,670) reported the largest increase in the country and is one of 33 schools with a growth of more than 1,000 per game. SMU (1,106 - 28th) is the fourth C-USA institution on the list. -

I am probably more optimistic about my zips than most but lets remember despite how bad or promising the QB play is we lost to the conference champ by 3 points. As someone mentioned earlier there isn't that much disparity between 1st and last place...and unfortunately that is why our conference is looked at as so bad. I mean our conference champ got their heads kicked in by the Big Tens 7th place team Our main concern should be winning our conference...period we do that we'll go to a bowl and get better recruits..it's a simple format but hard to obtain. I think JD realizes this and is putting "athletes" in positions to make plays. He knows this is his make or break season if he doesn't he doesn't deserve to be our coach. BUT...if we get rid of JD who would we get to replace him? Sure we have facilities that would attract a coach but look what our conference pay scale is. We are only gonna get another promising coach, or coach with potential, not a proven coach. Just my opinion. And I am tired of building for the future. I swear our building is taking longer than the construction on I-77!! -

Speaking of any update on David Harvey? Last I heard he was still enrolled in school and his grades were in order. Since he was ineligible for the fall he couldn't play spring ball as well. I was wondering if anyone has seen him on campus and spoke to him.
