  1. 1. I'm not satisfied until we are undefeated.2. I like the way JD has won a MAC championship, got us to a bowl game and beat a BCS team. Something nobody has ever done here at Akron. These are goals that JD talked about when he first got here and he delivered.3. Do you honestly think that Akron can afford to buy out JD's contract right now and hire a new coach in the next 3 years?Do you think our AD considered that when JD was given an extension? So I'm not really willing to entertain the thought of "firing" JD yet.More than 80% thought if this was losing season, JD should stayPoint 3 is a slam dunk!! You are right about that, but in that 80% almost every post mentions "depending" on how bad the losing season. So I guess we are like Notre Dame and stuck with our coach until his contract runs out.
  2. Solutions?!!how about scrap this defensehow about playing the best QBhow about being a better judge or character (as far as recruits)how about making a single half time adjustment that will keep us in the game till it's over instead of the middle of the 3rd.These are all correctable.Everyone and their mama knew that special teams was horrible last year, this year they are noticeably better. I am not a pro Owens guy nor a pro JD guy I am a pro who every gives us the best chance to win guy ( and right now that appears to be JD). GP1 and DrZ specifically 1. Are you guys satisfied with the rate at which the zips are improving? Because there has been some improvements I think we all agree on that....or do we?2. What specifically do you like about JD because it seems you guys get very defensive when someone says anything criticizing JD? I like JD but I just feel like Brian Kelly or Urban Meyer would have beaten UConn and IU with this team. I am not saying I want a new coach I am just saying I don't feel that UConn and IU are 20 points better than us. 3. Lastly if this season mirrors last years performance, or the best we do is 500 seasons, how long should we wait until we hire a new coach? I think he should be given 7 years before change should even be considered.I am curious what your answers will be, I am just not sold 100% on JD like you guys are, and I am wondering if your reasons will persuade my thinking.
  3. I agree totally so I guess we are some butt monkeys?!
  4. I am not asking for JD's job, I just think we are close to making a turn, it is so close I can taste it, the akrowdies, the akoldies, indoor facility, the basketball teams success, campus improvements, new stadium on the way, capitalone mascot challenge, competing into the second half with the best teams in the country. All these things are indications that we are making progress in the right direction. It's not enough to have to the best recruiting class if less than half play. It's not enough to be competitve against BCS schools we need to win It's not enough to average 17 points when our opponents average 21 or more.Think about this one...if Pete Carroll or Urban Meyer was coaching the zips against Indiana or UConn do you think the score would be the same?!!!!!I think JD is still learning so I am not gonna jump down his throat until after the season, But more importantly, as someone mentioned in another thread our attitudes need to change. We need to expect to win. The hell with being realistic, be optimistic! Find a way to win, I don't think the coaching staff goes all out to win games. I seen one trick play against OSU. Boise is an example of going all out to win.
  5. I understand the logic some of you are using about not running too complex of an offense with a young squad because it can lead to mistakes, fumbles, INT's sacks, etc, But as a D1 prospect their shouldn't be a " too complex to run" play calling. To me this is just another excuse of why we are not a mid-major. I just feel like sometimes we make excuses for our short comings. I guess I would be a terrible coach cause I would go into every game trying to win, not holding cards close to my chest because league play is around the corner. If your offense is that complex then you have a longer team session during practice and run it till you have candles burning to light the field. That's how I feel about it.
  6. I never said CJ11 was better than CJ7, I am just pointing out that as a leader he needs to take care of business plain and simple. Half our top recruits don't pan out, so the ones that do have to be disciplined if not what are we left with? I don't mean to come off like I am jumping all over the kid, but when your Akron you have to have little to know mistakes to win games. And sometimes going overboard is the only way some people know you mean business. Do you think if CJ7 played the entire game we would have beat UConn? I think it would have been a closer game at the 4th but I don't think we would have won.
  7. No one said he wasn't going to play...they just said he wasn't the starter. I am happy with JD's decision. how can u lead a team on the field if you don't do what you are suppose to do off? CJ7 you need to lead by example, you are setting the tone for offense when you are under center and don't think freshmen don't watch upper class men's antics. Be mature and take care off business. A 50K scholarship, the least you could do is go to meetings and get you ankle iced!!!This kinda stuff is what strikes a nerve with me, I had to endure some terrible seasons cause I played with talented guys who didn't wanna work, or simply did dumb shit.Missing meetings = not reading offenses or defensive coverages correctlyNot going to treatment = season long nagging injuriesNot going to class = ineligible playersGeez!!!!
  8. Quote from first article.... I wasn't a big Akron believer prior to the season, but the Zips have proved me wrong big time. After a win against Army, Akron held Ohio State to 20 points in week two.The following week, the Zips gave all they had at Indiana, a game they trailed by just three points with seven minutes remaining, and last Saturday, they defeated arch rival Can't State, 27-20. If Akron can contain Connecticut's running attack, this game is a complete toss-up.The Huskies are coming off a huge road win at Pittsburgh, benefiting from six Panthers turnovers, and will have a slight letdown against a team from the Mid-American Conference. Connecticut has already played another MAC school (Temple) and almost lost at home. The Owls had the game won with a touchdown in the back of the end zone on the last play of the game, but the referees and video replay ruled that he was out of bounds.Connecticut's young offensive line has allowed 13 sacks on the season and will have a hard time vs. the Zips, who have recorded eight in their four games. Look for this one to be close throughout, with Akron pulling out the "W" in the waning seconds.Take the Zips plus the points.Second....FACTS & STATS: Site: Rentschler Field (40,000) -- Hartford, Connecticut. Television: ESPN Regional. Home Record: Akron 2-0, UConn 2-0. Away Record: Akron 0-2, UConn 2-0. Neutral Record: Akron 0-0, UConn 0-0. Conference Record: Akron 1-0, UConn 1-0. Series Record: Connecticut leads, 2-0.GAME NOTES: The Connecticut Huskies will try to remain undefeated when they host the Akron Zips this Saturday afternoon in a non-league matchup from Rentschler Field. After losing back-to-back contests the Zips were able to get back on track with a hard-fought, 27-20 victory over Can't State this past weekend. It was the first win since opening the 2007 campaign with a 22-14 victory over Army. The Zips will remain on the road next week when they battle the Western Michigan Broncos. As for the Huskies, they have been perfect this season, winning all four of their matchups. The most recent victory was the most impressive to date, as the Huskies defeated Pittsburgh 34-14 on the road. Next up for UConn will be a road matchup with Virginia, followed by three consecutive home games. Connecticut has won the only two meetings between the two schools, including a thrilling, 38-37 victory over the Zips back in 2003.The Zips' offensive play has been embarrassing this season, as the team is currently producing just 242.8 total ypg, which has led to a meager 18.8 ppg. While the passing attack has been bad (145.5 ypg), the ground game has been atrocious, as the team is churning out only 97.2 ypg, while averaging a pathetic 2.7 ypc. This past weekend, the Zips were able to defeat Can't State despite having another lackluster offensive performance. Akron rumbled for 133 yards in the contest, but posted just 2.7 ypc. The passing attack was not much better as the team finished with only 112 yards through the air. Carlton Jackson only completed 7-of-20 passes in the game, finishing with just 99 yards and one score. Jackson also tossed an interception in the loss and was sacked twice. Jackson has been inconsistent on the season, completing just 53.6 percent of his passes for only 346 yards. Chris Jacquemain has also seen time under center, but he has struggled as well, throwing for just 236 yards in four games. The defensive unit for Akron has struggled to stop the run, as opponents are posting 203 rushing ypg on the year. As a whole however, the unit is surrendering just 363.8 total ypg, which has led to 23.8 ppg. This squad has been able to make big plays all season and heads into this matchup with a plus seven ratio in turnover margin. Unfortunately the team is struggling to get pressure on the quarterback, collecting just eight sacks thus far. In the recent victory over Can't State, the defense continued to have trouble against the run, allowing the flushes to churn out 220 yards on the ground. Fortunately the team countered its troubles with the run by collecting four turnovers and three sacks. Akron also held Can't State to just 15 first downs and only 3- of-13 on third down attempts. Brion Stokes had an outstanding game for Akron, collecting 10 tackles to go along with one sack and one fumble recovery. The Huskies head into this meeting with Akron averaging a stellar 34.8 ppg, and the main reason for the overwhelming amount of points is due to the team's ground attack, which is producing 160.8 ppg. In the recent victory over Pittsburgh, the Huskies only churned out 115 yards on 46 carries (2.5 ypc). However, despite the low output, UConn was able to collect a 20-point victory. Donald Brown led the way with 53 yards and one touchdown, and now has a team- best 293 yards on the ground to go along with four touchdowns. The passing attack was not effective in the win over Pitt either, as the team finished with just 174 yards through the air. Quarterback Tyler Lorenzen only completed 12-of-25 passes in the win, with no touchdowns. Lorenzen has been mediocre at best this season, throwing for only 880 yards. The signal-caller has completed a solid 63.6 percent of his attempts, but has just four touchdowns against two interceptions. It is safe to assume that the defensive unit for Connecticut has played a tremendous role in the team's red-hot start. UConn has held the opposition to a meager 250.5 total yard per contest and that has led to a pathetic 11.2 ppg. This unit has consistently made big plays all year, racking up 13 turnovers and 12 sacks. In the recent victory over Pitt, the defense was stellar once again, yielding just 349 total yards and only 14 points. The front line was superior, holding the Panthers to just 72 yards on 23 rushing attempts. The front seven for UConn has been tenacious all season, allowing just 85.0 rushing ypg, which is 16th best in the nation. Lawrence Wilson tallied 11 tackles in the win over Pittsburgh and now has a team-best 37 stops on the year. The Huskies are an extremely dangerous team and should continue their perfect run on the season. Connecticut should be able to score enough points this weekend to hold off the lackluster offensive attack of Akron.Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Connecticut 31, Akron 10Saturday, September 29th, 12:00 p.m. (et)Perhaps the biggest game of th
  9. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?slug=ap...ov=ap&type=lgnsMost interesting part "I've been here for five years and I haven't seen nothing like it," senior safety Anthony Williams said Tuesday. "Being inside Nippert Stadium, sold out -- it just feels so good. It makes you play 10 times harder than you did before."As a freshman, I dreamed about it -- seeing a sold-out crowd." sounds like they play at the rubber bowl with this comment....The tarps that covered empty seats were removed for the first time in years, allowing 35,097 fans to squeeze in. Players ran over to the student section before the kickoff, and sang the fight song with the marching band in a corner of the stadium afterward. This backs up what some of u have been saying..."You've got to have a football team that people enjoy watching," Kelly said. "And they're a pretty exciting football team, so people want to see them play."
  10. I have said it once and I have said it again we need out of the MAC, I like the conference and have nothing against it, and I know we have beaten this horse down but it is a dead end conference. South Florida, UConn both went from 1AA to 1A in better conference we can't we follow suit, Marshall made the move to and I bet in time it will pay off to. Southern Miss and Rice are both in Conference USA. Have a solid winning season for the next 5 years and dip to a better conference is my suggestion.
  11. Remember this..There are 15 schools on the NCAA minimum attendance radar according to the IndyStar - six from the MAC alone.I've gone through and pulled a list of the teams that could be in jeopardy of losing their DI-A status, with 2005 average attendance (pdf), 2006 year-to-date average attendance (pdf), the school's name, and a two-year average of those numbers.2005 AVG - 2006 YTD AVG - SCHOOL - Two year rolling avg (must >15,000 for DI-A)11,476 -- 6,431 - Florida Atlantic -- 8,9545,219 -- 11,686 - Eastern Michigan -- 8,45310,896 -- 13,134 - Utah State -- 12,01514,929 -- 13,906 - Bowling Green -- 14,41812,953 -- 14,138 - Ball State -- 13,54615,241 -- 14,386 - Miami (OH) -- 14,81418,630 -- 14,811 - SMU -- 16,72112,735 -- 14,860 - Temple -- 13,79815,175 -- 15,135 - Idaho -- 15,15515,147 -- 15,193 - Florida International (FIU) -- 15,17017,591 -- 15,482 - Louisiana - Lafayette -- 16,53710,893 -- 16,011 - Akron -- 13,45218,033 -- 16,194 - Ohio -- 17,11610,072 -- 16,753 - Rice -- 13,4131. Are we being smart by not scheduling home games..less games=less time we need above 15K? This along with an in shambles stadium.So far so good?!2. Cleveland Browns stadium had above 15K , the Can't game did, now we only need to get that amount 3 more times one of the three games is a homecoming. Hmmm maybe next year only schedule 4 to be safe until the new stadium is built.......j/k Anyways if I remember correctly there is a probation period, and I believe we are off of that. Correct me if I am wrong please.
  12. The visiting team gets paid in college a set price or portion of tickets or both depending on the contract. Does anyone have a link to look up this information and how much is Akron getting paid to play UConn?!!
  13. Bowling Green 1-0 overall 2-1 Akron 1-0 overall 2-2 Buffalo 1-0 overall 1-3 Miami (OH) 1-0 overall 1-3 Ohio 0-0 overall 2-2 Can't State 0-1 overall 2-2 Temple 0-2 overall 0-4 Bowling Green - Still don't know how good they are. Their win against Minny looks good on paper but they are a botom Big10 team. I feel we should have beat an Indy team that is better than Minny. Their other win is against Temple.Buffalo - should be a win, their only win is to Temple. They have been blown out in every game they have played.Miami - They barely lose to Minny and beat a Ball State team that i think is pretty good, but they get blown out by Colorado and Cincy. I am going to say we beat them even though it is at their place.Ohio - Their wins are nothing to brag about and lost to Wyoming by 1 at home. Can't State - Coked that ChickenTemple - Nothing needs to be said but..."W"So out of the 6 teams in the east the worst I see us being is 4 and 2, and that is if we fall on our face and lose to 2 out of 3 against BGSU, Miami, and OU. I think Can't is the second best team in the east.
  14. I think i am in the minority here but I am just not impressed with Kennedy. Now Williams runs hard.
  15. Boy we look sloppy starting the second half. Jackson is holding the ball to long and fumbled which lead to the Can't score. Ridiculous penalties, this need to stop....to late interception!!
  16. I see that ugly ass end zone tarped off! The score is 14-7 Can't winning, and Can't student section laughing holding up a piece of our bleachers! Damn I am so pissed right now. This just looks bad, we need that new stadium yesterday!!!!
  17. Could you imagine if our mascot was a big ass boot! Akron Zips Stomping the Competition! Why doesn't Zippy wear boots or "Zippers"?Student section wearing blue and gold Zippers doing the boot stomp! We could call the competition boot licker's!!Go Zips!!!When people ask you what is a zip? What do you say, do you say a type of shoe or do you say a kangaroo?
  18. Good Guys 24Bad Guys 14
  19. Damn?!! That is messed up and bad pub for the company that built the stadium. I wonder if it was done on purpose to increase concession sales and it backfired on them?
  20. I have a question if a recruit doesn't qualify do we lose that scholarship for that year or can we give it to a walk on, or it is based on total number of scholarships.
  21. I knew someone would start this thread....cause I was going to also .But, in all fairness we need to give him more than one game. He could of had "a good game". Let's see if he can repeat this performance or was he just having a lucky day. If I see D.A.'s perform like he did today then I will concied that he is better than Fry. But some random thoughts due come to mind.Is he playing loose because he knows he is just warming the seat Quinn?! Is his confidence up because he knows Quinn isn't playing till next year?Feels good because Fry is gone?Or was it good old fashioned beginners luck?!
  22. I am pissed I am logging off, another incomplete effort!!! Hey let's get another 3 and out for the road!!
  23. Well they need to hurry up and score twice!!!
  24. I am not encouraged when I see us get the ball on the 20 yard line, because we don't get enough big plays if the defense or special teams doesn't provide excellent field position we struggle.
  25. are you kidding me call timeout!! You are about to go for it on 4th and 3 and get a damn delay of game, what the hell that is some high school shit and then you punt it into the endzone!!!
