They are beside the names and faces of several Akron Zips greats -- Eric McLaughlin, Joe Jakubick, Larry Jenkins and Len Paul. In the opposite rafters is a banner that says "Men's Basketball, MAC Champions, 1998 and 2007." Big problem. The Zips have never won a MAC Championship. Ball State and Western Michigan tied for the MAC Championship in 1998, each finishing 14-4, 21-8. Toledo won the MAC Championship in 2007 finishing 14-2, 19-13. Akron won the East Division in 1998 and 2007, but no MAC championships. And it will be interesting to see if all the Nike reps have much to say to their campus hosts from Akron, who are clearly decked out in adidas gear. Akron is an adidas school in every sport except basketball.

Sure do ... and Akron is officially "The University of Akron." My point is that if it doesn't really matter what we call Akron, then it must not really matter what we call Ashland (or insert your favorite school) ... "The University of Ashland" and "U Ashland" both sound good to me just as "Akron University" and "Akron U" are acceptable to some.An old can of worms for sure ... I just feel it is more respectful to use the proper name.To satisfy everyone maybe we should always say "The University of Akron University"
