NC State Beats another ranked team
Sergeant Zip replied to Zip Watcher's topic in Akron Zips Football
I don't know if you were joking but I found that hysterical. -
Dantonio my not be there long enough to build one, per vandelaysports.com"This game may be an audition for [JD] at Cincy as Mark Dantonio could be gone after this season. "Could JD be another one to jump ship to UC?

Per Vandelay Sports:Television: FSN Ohio, Comcast Local, CSN Chicago, Time Warner 13 Buffalo (Michael Reghi, play-by-play; Bob Chmiel, analyst; Jeff Phelps, sideline).I haven't seen anything about internet options.

BROOKHART MUST FIX KICKING GAME BY SATURDAY, OR?
Sergeant Zip replied to ZipAnalyst's topic in Akron Zips Football
If you do do that, I recommend that you make sure he is not taking any supplements that may react with the pain killers and cause an allergic reaction. Also do not let him take 35 pills at once people may assume he tried suicide, oh wait, the pills were just in the drawer and the publicist didn't know that. -
DK is probable:Injuries - *Tail back Dennis Kennedy (9/27, shoulder) is probable for Saturday s game against Can't State. The Sports Network

Battle for Ohio. Akron vs OSU
Sergeant Zip replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
We're not. According to the Adidas poll posted today we already dropped out. -
Upon further review, there is indisputable video evidence to prove that the ruling on the field stands: due to the fact that their all time football record is 288-461-28. That is a losing percentage of 63%.

Battle for Ohio. Akron vs OSU
Sergeant Zip replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Unfortunately not today, we lost 1-0. -
Per the OBR, Fyre was hit 19 times and I don't think they were exaggerating."... Charlie Frye [got] sacked seven times and hit another 19 times."That is brutal.
-
Point taken, but that would me I couldn't like Cribbs than because he played for the Golden flushes. Even though Ben seems like an idiot, if he succeeds the MAC succeeds and the MAC builds a reputation.
-
I totally has forgotten about him.

I want to have a little fun here: - In reference to Chuck Frye's play, just to keep it in the right context. (see link:http://zipsnation.org/index.php?showtopic=3493)I know I went way back for this post but it stuck with me. I am interested to see how msopher evaluates Bruce after week 5. I know he is a "rook" playing on an 0-3 team, he was the first Toledo QB draft pick in 30 years (Gene Swick in 1976 (fourth round-Cleveland Browns)), and has attempted 6 passes in his young NFL career, but we will find out the reality of the situation soon. Good thing for him he has a bye this coming week. I wouldn't be suprised if Rattay takes over the starting job just because of the experience factor. Honestly, I don't know how Bruce played in the preseason, he may have been lights out or he could have looked like he was playing with the lights out. I don't know but we'll see for sure on 10/8. Gruden is a smart coach, I'm sure they will have a solid game plan. I always root for MAC players, except when they play the Brownies. I hope he succeeds and Simms never takes back the starting job.

FYI, Zips Win the McLaughlin Tournament
-
I guess because NC State beat BC, they are suddenly good enough to have points in the Harris Interactive Poll with 7 points. That's good for us. Not one MAC team is in their poll, unless I missed them. 47 teams got points.

Would be a good idea because Cleveland State has nothing much sports wise going for them. Unfortunately I don't know that their distribution system could handle that large of an area. Unless, you are willing to get up at three and deliver papers for them. You are right but I guarantee putting an OSU headline on that paper jumps sales, maybe even dramatically. I do think that sucks and they could give more pub to the Zips inside and not one Buckeye article after another. Quality reporting inside could lead to a future of front page articles once the fan base is there. I agree but I think we are in the wrong forum/blog for this discussion.

I loved the pic Bobby, I wanted to look at the supposed pics too and noticed it didn't work.

I hope you are right but ultimately they will cover what is going to sell. It would be a foolish business decision not to cover the #1 team in the country, regardless of where the paper is located (Akron, Canton, Youngstown). Winning sells and people are proud to say they are from Ohio because the Buckeyes are national contenders. Your casual fan knows the Buckeyes, it gives them something to make small talk about. The almighty dollar will win every time. Take the Akron Aeros title last year; it was barely a blip in the paper. It was there the day after they won and nothing really leading up to it and nothing much after it. It doesn't sell papers. Did any of you know that Cuyahoga Falls has a professional basketball team called the Cuyahoga Falls Cougars? Maybe, they cover them occassionally but reporting on the Cougars isn't selling papers. Did you know that last year the Akron Racers rallied from a four-run deficit and defeated the top-seeded Chicago Bandits, 5-4, to win a NPF championship? Most probably don't know who the Racers are because the Beacon won't sell papers talking about them. The Canton Legends in Canton won a national title for the AIFL. Was that really covered in the paper, no. I bet the Canton Repository doesn't really cover them because they don't sell papers. It comes down to $$$. I know I didn't present anything original but money seems to have been forgotten in all of the previous rants.Another point is the paper is titled the Journal not the Sporting News. They have limited resources just like any business. So they can't always commit big resources (i.e. Terry Pluto ??? hahaha) to all Zips games because of my earlier points.

I would like to know how many times the poor dude was knocked down himself. Too many for me to count.

I agree, I don't think we should be a prozac nation but let's worry about this later in the season if we have to. We should be celebrating... For those of you who want to continue to worry the whole season and get an ulcer:5 home games need 15,000 average so that is 75,00075,000-16,01158,989 left to bring in minimum

Final Stats:C. Frye, 21/33 298 Yards 1 TD Passing 1 TD Rushing 1 INT 7 SACKS 90.2 QB RatingI guess I jinxed him with my earlier post... That INT in the endzone hurt. Frye couldn't help that the O-Line could not stop Bart Scott as he threw and was picked or that the D gives up a winning drive that covered 47 yards in 12 plays or he had no run support or that the officals couldn't see a WR stepping out of bounds and coming back in for a catch (although Stover still would have made that kick) or ...

Article on Stec: Palm Beach PostAtlantic grad, punter not thrilled to be sorely neededBy Jason LieserPalm Beach Post Staff WriterSaturday, September 23, 2006Playing time is bittersweet for Akron punter John Stec.Stec is sixth among freshmen with an average of 36.3 yards per punt, and he gets plenty of attempts. The Zips' third-down conversion percentage (26.5) ranks 113th in the nation."When I have a good game, it doesn't mean the team had a good game," Stec said. "I don't necessarily want to be in the game at times."The Atlantic High graduate won a close contest with sophomore Andy Hildreth for the starting job, and immediately found himself on one of the biggest stages in college football. The Zips opened their season at Penn State's Beaver Stadium, where 106,505 fans roared throughout the rain-soaked afternoon."It was crazy," Stec said. "Especially being in front of 5,000 at the most back in Delray, and now being in front of over 100,000 is a total change of atmosphere."Another new experience for Stec is the speed of college defenses."Every time I punt the ball there's somebody within a foot of me," he said. "They're going to be there every time. It's such a different world. College football is so much faster."

They practice on the field and tear it up. Groundskeepers are out there just about everyday filling divets after practice. It just gets too much wear and tear.

Speaking of commericals, I saw a commerical on FSN for the U of A/Can't game tonight. Looks like they are pushing it already.
