  1. I think I asked this question a couple of months ago and someone replied that the soccer field wouldn't physically fit into ICS. I agree, and actually, find it amazing that the decision was made NOT to make the field big enough for soccer. I mean, the Soccer team is so much more successful than any other sport (execept maybe Rifle ) and god knows that UA is land locked. The only reason I can think why is that Caleb has his own vision for what the Soccer Team needs to be on top, and playing in a giant stadium wasn't part of that plan. Still, one would think that simply having a stadium that could fit a soccer field might allow the option of a potential MLS team to play in Akron $$$$$$ How much larger is a futbol field than a football field?
  2. Well, locally it probably is well regared, but like Engineering, it probably isn't that well known nationally. You know, Engineering really isn't that good of a program, and the fact that our students regularly pound students of "better" schools in engineering competitions backs that up.
  3. Check it OUT! Virtural Tour of the Stadium!!!
  4. Let me guess. It's a "Home" game for Toledo and they have to pay OSU 70% of the ticket revenue???
  5. I think the kid wants to be the one who started it all in Akron, a cornerstone if you will. The one who people 50 years from now will say "It all started with Zeke". I give the kid Kudos for this because, well, he's sticking his neck out. He's got to be very aware of his future as a true NBA prospect. He goes to a big school, and it will be that much easier for him to get exposure. Seems to me he wants to do more, wants to start something here, wants to be a legend. It's pretty tough to do that in North Carolina. You know what I see, I see a true Zip! He doesn't follow the crowd or take the easy road. He's a leader. Comments like "Most schools that are big now needed someone to represent them. You need good players to attract other good players." That's a leader talking, someone who doesn't want to ride other people's coat-tails, but wants others riding his. He likes what he sees and is going to work hard to make it a success.
  6. Ask me two years ago to compare Football's future and Basketball's future at Akron, and I would be posting exactly the opposite points of view to how things actually are today. I honestly can't believe how good things are looking for the future of Zips BB. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect us to roll through the MAC in '08-'09, but I do expect us to have a very strong showing. '09-'10 LOOK OUT!Football on the other hand, is progressively getting me more frustrated. WTF happened!?!? We are picked to finish at the bottom of the East. How could this happen when you were MAC champs 3 seasons ago, have had such stellar recruiting classes, and some of the best, and getting better facilities? I've got to tell you, I'm starting to move from the "Give JD two more years" camp to the "Anything less than 6-6 and show him the door" camp. Soccer. I've been to 1 maybe 2 soccer matches when I was in school, but I'll tell you what, I'm jumping on that bandwagon. I thought they were done when Lolla left, but now I think that might have been a blessing in disguise. That program is gonna bust out here soon, and I have a feeling when they do, they'll be bringing home an NCAA championship.
  7. I bet he would fit the mold 5 years ago.
  8. Finally got my Season Tickets ordered today. I have to say that I'm pretty happy with the package. It actually sounds like, if you've been a season ticket holder for some time, you will get some type of priority on seating in the new stadium. Hopefully this means that when it comes to picking out my seats at ICS, I don't get the shaft from some first year guy who happens to get in line first. Does anyone actually know how this will work? Also of note, they mentioned that, as I got the family package this year, that I can tack on extra GA tickets and they will be linked to my seats. This is good news as I usually manage 2 random tag-alongs per game and if they are going to become seat-Nazis they can sit with me.
  9. I don't think there is any question that ticket prices will go up in 2010. If you get the founding team package, it states that your ticket price will be fixed for 2010, implying that the price will increase. I agree that we must put a better team on the field shortly after building the new stadium, or we'll miss a big opportunity to increase attendance. As for the Kids Club, I should sign my daughter up for this! Actually, I'm amazed I haven't done this yet!
  10. actually, I'm glad it was back at the top. You know how hard it is to get good info on the MAC?
  11. I'm sure every team that isn't ranked #1 is telling them that they are the most underrated team in the MAC. All I know is I'm expecting JD to earn his money this year!
  12. How about this. I think we caught the FSU guys off guard. They expected to pull away early and cruise, instead, they got behind. Then, they caught up and we ran with them...they figured they would eventually pull away. Instead, we went on a run. This is when they got modivated, made a run and as they expected, we began to fold...but not entirely. Then Dials took over and ballgame. The part that concerns me is how we fold at the end. Hopefully in the future, we finish strong against these types of teams.
  13. Agreed. Our league champion in FB should be able to take a Big 10 team in the MCB. Agreed. Lets just win our confrence, consistently. I know it's coming in BB, but I would sure love other schools in the MAC to see Akron on the schedule and say, "L". Now they see us and say "W".
  14. Yep! Actually, prior to BF Goodrich, a "Zipper" was known as a "Hookless Fastener". I believe the name "Zipper" was given to it by some big wig at BFG because they needed a catchy name to sell the product.
  15. Let me jot this down..... July 6th 2013, post on ZNO to ask about Harvey.....
  16. How 'bout this. Why don't we make a replica of it and put that on display in the new stadium???? Hell, I know lots of yards here in NE ohio where I can steal an old wagon wheel!
  17. Well, if everyone brought their laptops, we could put a new spin on an old standby. Instead of flipping over cards, we could all hold up our laptops and make a HUGE screen.
  18. Final installment of my pictures from last weekend. This time, the better side of campus. Hope you enjoy!http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/...icseen.html#new
  19. Posted another thread on UrbanOhio, this time about UofA. Figured you guys would enjoy my pics. More to come in the future too!http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,16633.0.html
  20. That is AWESOME!!! Almost as good as the shirt I have for my daughter:
  21. I've posted some pics I took of the UofA construction ...including the stadium, this past weekend at the following link: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,16588.0.html
  22. Got to spend the day in Akron today and took a TON of pics. For those who are interested, click the link below.http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,16578.0.html
  23. Suck it up and pay for it. I'm lucky, I'm gonna have 2 kids and the Family package will work perfect for me. I can see it now...all the dads, drinking beer, chompin on nachos, get the first 5 rows of the family section and the kids and moms can fight and gab about Desperate Housewives behind the guys.
  24. Why doesn't the University put it up for bid, and the highest bidder can have it named after them? Hell, that's the way everything else is going. Why don't we sell the naming rights to the paths through campus??? We sold the name of our stadium to a telemarking firm didn't we??Personally, I like the Heisman name. I agree that we need to play up this tie. Miami sure does play up their ties to successful college FB coaches that won elsewhere.
  25. At least these views give a better idea of the overall scale of the project. Oh, and I can't pass this up..... I can see my (old) house from this view!
