  1. SHHHH! Don't let anyone in Cleveland know he is connected to Akron! The last time I heard him talk, at the City Club of Cleveland, the word "Akron" was never uttered.
  2. If we win only one game all year, it had better be against Can't. I don't know how, but my hatred for those guys keeps growing every year!
  3. I hope to be in town this weekend, and will try to take lots of photos. That place is going to be VERY impressive!!
  4. GREAT! Now, the only hurdle I have to get over is actually owning a house........in Ohio.
  5. I'm pretty sure I put down about 5200 calories a day. You'd be amazed how many calories you burn by typing on a computer all day!!!!
  6. With an 11% vacancy rate, you would expect some developer somewhere would be looking to add more office space. I have to say, it's pretty impressive that Akron has been the only major Ohio city to increase downtown employment in the past decade. Considering the money that is thrown around in Cleveland and the boomtown that is Cowlumbus, these figures are impressive. The problem is that too many people in this town have been battered by the past 40 years and don't believe it can get better. Proenza is one of those very rare personas with the ambition, foresight and belief to remake an entire city. I get so frustrated with how some in the local community, and others outside of Akron, feel UofA should just go away. Indeed, UofA is, IMO, the single greatest asset this city has right now. Proenza realizes this and, at a turning point in Ohio higher education, is remaking "Hilltop High" into the Technological University for Northern Ohio. I'll tell you what, I think the underlying forces are already in motion that will result in a HUGE change in this city in the next 15 years. If Akron can nail down the Bridgestone deal, this city will be as unrecognizable in 10 years as UofA is to me less than a decade from my graduation.
  7. I'm pulling for Frye, but I have to side with GP1 on this one, I don' t think he's got what it takes to be a successful starter. I pray that I'm wrong. He should always be working to be a starter and collecting a paycheck as the backup. He could end up very rich, and in great physical shape at the end of his career. That's better than I'm doing right now!
  8. ME87, that mailbox is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. The flag is the best part. May I copy?
  9. Wouldn't it be cool if we sent a couple of bus loads of fans to Columbus for the last game of the year, with Akron ranked #1 to put a pounding on Columbus State? I know Columbus State did pretty good last year, but it would sure be nice to deliver a whoppin'
  10. A couple of thoughts.1) This is a big, big deal. LBJ really goes to bat for his hometown. It's amazing this guy grew up in Akron where everyone seems to bash the local community.2) The one Can't State fan comment below the article in the PD does a lot more to dammage Can't's image than Akron's. 3) OSU got a deal first, IMO, because of their fan base and the potential sales for Nike. I'm sure Nike is doing this more as a favor for LBJ than to make money. Lets face it folks, may of us are going to run out and buy this gear, but I'm not going to go buy Nike stock as a result.4) Will we get a huge "WE ARE ALL WITNESSES" banner for the side of the JAR with a picture of KD on it??5) So I'm going to have to wear my Adidas stuff to football, soccer, rifle, etc. and Nike shoes to the MBB games. Now, if we can just get LBJ to wear one of HIS Akron hats when he is at a Cleveland sporting event!
  11. The more technology based degree programs we can cram into UA the better. You never know where these things could go. Personally, I would like to see more focus put into alternative energy programs at UofA. Fuel Cells, Batteries, Wind, Solar, Etc. I think energy, not just oil but energy, is going to be an ever-growing issue. With First Energy in town, it would make an easy partnership.
  12. Didn't want to steal any thunder from the soccer page by posting this bad boy here. src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flush" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>"> src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flush" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">
  13. I'm not a complete downer on JD. I think he got burned early on and is now moving in a new direction, which unfortunately means a few lean years. What I find interesting is that he was an offensive coordinator, and our offense isn't that good. Our D seems to be better under JD than I can remember in the past 15 years. I can't remember a MAC team with a defense strong enough to dominate the league, but I honestly think that if someone can put together a good, solid D, they've got a shot week in and week out. This is the MAC, and as we saw in 2005, anything can happen. IMO, this season could be a plesant suprise, or a nightmare. I think we are a long shot at winning the MAC, but it could happen. As usual, if we win the games we are supposed to, and pull off one or two mild upsets, I would be very pleased. I think a sub .500 year puts JD on the hot seat. A win at Can't is a must in my book!
  14. Please convince me that we WON'T finish Last.
  15. Remember when JD nailed down the top recruiting class 2 years in a row......where are they now? I think Ball State was 2nd or 3rd both of those years and they seem be be much more solid than we are right now.
  16. That's Awesome! I think there are quite a few of us here that have been doing this. If we were to put all of our pictures together, we would probably have a really good progress animation. Would you want me to send you the screen dumps I've been taking?
  17. I believe that the existing parking lots can be used for tailgating and rumor has it that open containers will be tolerated. I know where I'm going...Shrank South. I don't think I can swing the cost of tailgating by the stadium.
  18. So how long would it take someone, to look at the countdown, and then figure out what date it will end, put 2 and 2 together and figure out it has to do with the stadium. My guess is about 10 minutes. I do like the idea of purchasing billboards throughout NE Ohio wih some of those teasers. Put a website at the bottom. This may be a better approach as my guess is that bout 90% of the people in NE Ohio have no idea that Akron is building a new stadium. Some of them will go to the website. The website would have to be different than what is on gozips.com. Put together some kick@$$ video, like the Akron Psyche video, that plays as soon as they log on with snippets of some of some of the amazing Akron FB moments in the past few years (Dom's catch MACC, Win vs Marshall and storming the field, etc. Slap in a few of the shots of the stadium in the middle, and then at the end have a computer generated panoramic of a sold out ICS with the crowd going wild on opening day. YEA,I think that would be awesome!
  19. I for one LOVE the countdown idea. Aren't we gonna have a MONGO, double sided scoreboard at the new stadim that should be visible from Rt. 8??? Put that damn thing up NOW and lets get the Countdown clock STARTED!!!As for getting people in the area to follow Akron....we need to win. Marketing is only going to take you so far. A new stadium is only going to take you so far. Nobody likes to lose and not have a chance at being "The Best". Akron fans, indeed MAC fans in general have a MUCH thicker skin than the average American Sports Fan. Nobody likes to go to the water cooler and have to talk about how they lost week after week, or how they just can't seem to beat a Big 10 team. It's MUCH MUCH EASIER to root for a winner.....to help you feel like a winner. A winner sells newspapers and people watch your newscast. Does our marketing need help, yes. Is it much better than it used to be...yes. I still don't understand the huge banner on the fieldhouse that nobody can see??? Put the thing on Bulger or the Polymer building if you are going to spend money on a banner that big!!!
  20. Even though I have never seen the guy, I can make a few assessments:Advantage: He probably has some pretty big feet which will provide a good base in the standing position.Disadvantage: As he is pretty tall, his Center of Gravity will be higher, making it more difficult to stay stable in the standing position.Advantage: Seems like he's a pretty smart kid as he wants to pursue Computer Science. Rifle is 99.99% mental. He could give it a try. It would be tough to fit in the additional 12 + hours of practice during the week and then make the matches on the weekend, but it's worth a shot.
