  1. gametracker has been working for me since the opening kickoff. i decided to go to futbol instead of football tonight. just checking to see if there was a score.Zis up 10-3... about 1:30 before halftime and driving with the ball
  2. here is a direct audio link to the game broadcast that has not let me down for us out-of-towners; http://sportsradio1350.com/cc-common/strea..._new/index.html

  4. here, let me "paraphrase"Win a big commitment from a solid recruit after the game. That was the formula for success this past weekend for the Akron Zips.Cochranton, Pa., two-star defensive end James Harvey said on Tuesday that he committed to the Zips shortly after watching them beat rival Can't on Saturday. The 6-foot-4, 262-pounder is ranked as a 5.3 on the Rivals Rating Scale and picked Akron over offers from Buffalo, Ohio and New Hampshire. Pittsburgh, Purdue and West Virginia were also interested in him."I committed over the weekend," Harvey said. "I really liked it up there when I went to their camp, and I loved it when I was there for the game."In addition to football Harvey also plays basketball and participates in track. Harvey said his best time in the 100 is 12.1 seconds – which for a 6-4, 260-pounder is trucking. Harvey also bench press 360 pounds and squats 500 pounds.
  5. As much as people dislike telemarketing it is a proven way to effectively and efficiently get a mass sales campaign completed.
  6. Playoffs?! Don't talk about playoffs! Are you kidding me? Playoffs?! -- Jim Mora
  7. i heard it was not either CJ... so that leaves Rodgers, Hakes, and the new transfer KC. I doubt Kc since he just transferred or Radgers since he's an incoming Frosh... That only leaves one....
  8. I head that someone was no longer with the team....Can anyone confrim or deny this?DOH!
  9. Mack is the AD so he should have a lot to do with the stadium. But what is unknown to the masses is what he has done since he arrived for the stadium. My inside sources tell me that he and his crew have not raised a dime for the stadium. All the commitments for the stadium came BEFORE Mack arrived, duing the Mike Thomas era.My contacts at UTEP laugh when I bring up Mack's bio and how he raised the money for their new center. I think my favorite statement was "that was all committed to before he even got here."HMMM I think I see a pattern developing...There has been weird stuff happening in the department since day one of the Mack Rhoades show. I enjoy watching the staff directory on gozips.com to check out the latest departures (Athletics does not announce anyone leaving). Two departures, one was the Field House Manager, Dan Krone going to Cincinnati where he will be well respected for his efforts. A big loss, but at least they promoted within for once and hired Allan Hoon to fill Dan's shoes. The latest departure was Melanie Schneider, from Sports Information, going to Indiana. As far as a nasty relationship between the coaches and administration, well, I will address that at the proper time. I will say there is a lack of respect for the administration and the coaches just hope they stay out of the way and not impede their programs. ... you sound like a bitter, former employee or an insider who doesn't like anyone that is currently on the admin team (like most people here).
  10. I can answer this one very quickly. Every college football program in America uses a reported number for attendance. This number is not based on actual butts in seats, but a number that is in essence "made up" by the powers that be. Now wait, I know what you are thinking... "AK-ZIPS, don't you have to have some accountability for the reported attendance?" The answer is yes, but you can also manipulate your attendance to be reported in a variety of ways. One of the most popular is that your reported attendance number must be accounted for by tickets distributed. Tickets distributed include students, single game sales, and season ticket sales. Also, all sold tickets must be at least 33% (I believe) of the highest single game ticket price to be counted as a distributed ticket. Freebies don't necessarily count, but wait, there's more...Tickets that are given away do count in a way. For example if you have a single game ticket for $20 and for each one that you sell you also give one away you can count both tickets as distributed because broken up they avg. $10 per ticket which is higher than the 33% requirement by the NCAA and their auditing systems. This is not the way it works at Akron because of how cheap ticket prices are to begin with and the discount you get with season tickets. In conclusion, you can easily alter the student number, and fudge the sales numbers to get a pretty big variety of distributed tickets that get reported to the NCAA. If you sell season tickets to only 3,000 people with each buying 2, you get 6,000, plus add in 1,000, students, another 2,000 single game purchases, group tickets, corporate accounts, and ISP contracts; you get somewhere in the neighborhood of 9,000 people in attendance. That number quickly becomes 15,000 by adding in the "freebies" to the accounting system that will average out over 33% per ticket purchased to about 7,500 season tickets (counted as single game tickets in accounting system), 3,500 students, single game tickets are where the ticket increase is really made and now you have 4,000 of the single game buys. That’s how you get 15,000.This is a bare minimum worst case scenario. I have looked up all of this info and even checked about how this works with a few people i know that work in college athletics and entertainment. I hope this makes sense.Have a nice day!
  11. Who the heck cares who the division I-AA champion is? Who even won it last year?Appalachian State has won it back to back years, and they will probably win it for a 3rd straight year coming up. They may have lost to NC-State last year early in the season, but because they started their backup QB and Running Backs; which never played again after that game.Remember the names Armanti Edwards and Kevin Richardson. They are the most talented players in I-AA and you will see them on ESPN quite a bit in the upcoming season. I'd go out on a limb and say Appy St. would finish in the top 3 in the MAC; they were that good. And I say that because I have seen Championship I-AA teams play before and I have seen the MAC play before, and Appalachian St. is the best I-AA program I have ever seen---EVER.O yah may I add that their stadium only seats 16,500; but they averaged a I-AA Best 25,000 people at their games last year!Similar design to Stambaugh; but they have a big ass hill which seats over 10,000; they are getting a brand new 3 story press box in the upcoming months as well. I've been there. It's a crap hole. When was i there you ask? This past season is my answer. They may be the best 1-AA team.. but they are still 1-AA. No disrespect intended, just keeping it real. there stadium is not even nice, it's like Dix only worse. If Can't State wants to add some nice suites then they would trump App. State in every way. The difference is coaching (amazing coaching is done at this level) and giving kids that could go to other 1-A schools and compete for positions the chance to start right away. Talanet-wise they are not as good on paper, but that's why you coach, teach, and mold these players into a real team. I thought App. State was a terrific team this past season. However, i am not sure they could compete on a week to week basis with the MAC for a .500 league record.
  12. GoZips, as i suspected is CORRECT!One of the unique nicknames in all of intercollegiate athletics belongs to The University of Akron. Originally Zippers, athletic director Kenneth Red Cochrane officially shortened the nickname to the Zips in 1950. Twenty-five years earlier a campus-wide contest had been conducted to choose a nickname for the University's athletic teams. Suggestions submitted by students, faculty, and alumni included Golden Blue Devils, Tip Toppers, Rubbernecks, Hillbillies, Kangaroos, and Cheveliers. The winner, freshman Margaret Hamlin, received a prize of $10 for Zippers - a $6 pair of rubber overshoes and a brand name of the BF Goodrich Company. from a very 'reliable' source... http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...0&ATCLID=323405when i search for "Cochran" all i got was a dance team tryout information page that misrepresented a name. Thanks for playing Zipmeister
  13. Akron's marketing staff had nothing to do with this. This was an agreed collaboration between the MAC office and the military academies. They will play these sequential games in Cleveland and feature a different military opponent each season. Akron was chosen for the opener because they are close and an easy first year test to garner the attention and support of the local fan base. The preliminary discussions have been going on with this type of press for a couple of years now. It has nothing to do with Akron's AD or any administration except for them approving the game, which was a no-brainer.Thank you, come again!
  14. 6' 4" __________________________________________________________5' 11" sixteen year olds typically have a little bit of growth left in them. Even if he doesn't, a 5' 11" guard can do some serious damage in the MAC.ask Dru how good a 5'11" walk-on guard can be in the MAC ;-)
  15. Akron is already contracted with ISP sports with rights fees and guarentees attached. you just don't hear about all of the details becasue we are a mid-major... not Wisconsin or the Cumblowus Suckeyes!
  16. Does anyone know if DK is working extra hard to really give the Suckeyes all they can handle? Afterall, he was one of them. I know it was very short lived, but facts are facts. any thoughts?Zip go the Zippers!
  17. I think we should import some snow covered mountains for effect.
  18. actually it IS enforcable... Its just of matter of whether the NCAA WANTS to enforce it or not.
  19. Great season guys. do not hang your heads. Next season, raise them up higher than ever before!
  20. yeah take that and that and suck it trebek! hahaas long as we all know that it's 10:04 am and
