I would love to see Pitt come here. They played and lost at Ohio and Toledo. I don't know if they would be willing to take a chance with another away game to any MAC school. I would like to get Kentucky back on the schedule. They are going to play Miami and they were on our schedule at one point. Colorado is a possibility, honestly I think any program outside of the top 20 attendance school could be lured on the right year.

The MAC takes another step towards insignificance

Who is willing to move down? I have never seen anything to suggest that any program is seriously considering this move. Has any program ever moved down?Closest geographically and semi-recent example - University of Dayton.I am pretty sure Dayton never had a DI-A program. It would benefit the MAC if we were able to shed some programs that not pulling their weight. You are right that several schools are not pursueing excellence within their program rather looking for the easy fiscal answer. Let them drop, I would be happy to see our conference remain with the best eight schools. -

What is your source for OVC fans blaming him for a decline in basketball? The article is complimentary and he appears to have moved their conference forward. -
Charlie Coles mentioned that Miami was not interested in the CIT or CBI tournament due to injuries with the current roster.

I wouldn't mind seeing Syracuse. I imagine the results would be the same a football, about a 14 point win. I have a strange feeling we will be paired up against Washington(PAC 10 champ).
-
If the Zips get a 13th seed, the options are Portland, Portland, Boise, and Miami.
-
Funny you should mention Portland, OR. ESPN had Buffalo facing UCLA in Portland for the first round. I think the Zips are going to step into that 13th spot out west. I would be shocked if the tournament gave the Zips a game withing 1000 miles of Akron.
-
Thanks for your updates throughout the tournament.
-
I am guessing the Zips at a 13 seed. ESPN had Buffalo at 13 prior to the game and I think the Zips will slide right into their spot.

Way to go Zips!!! Yeah!!
-
That is awesome! I believe this is Akron's second national champion, joining Christy Smith in the heptathlon. Way to go Jenna!

The MAC is a terrible basketball conference this year. Our league has fallen but at some point we will cycle back up. The idea of dropping football and becoming the next Gonzaga or Dayton would be an easy decision, but what if drop football and don't average 13,000K per basketball game like Dayton. What if we dropped football became like Cleveland State, a school that can only dream of having a football program? I don't like the idea of dropping football in the hopes of becoming something we are not (national basketball power). I think MAC football and basketball provide Akron the opportunities to achieve at any level. If we go undefeated in football we will recieve national attention, if we have an outstanding year in basketball we get to prove ourselves at the tournament. I don't like the idea of putting all our eggs into the basketball program.

The all-time records are very lopsided but I don't think the bottom of the B10 would be a guaranteed winner in the MAC. The difference between the bottom of the B10 and top of the MAC is very small. Historically, MAC schools played B10 exclusively on the road. Now, the MAC is getting some home games and wins. I don't think Illinois, Indiana, and Northwestern would come in and win all of their games. The road and upsets making winning any conference difficult.

I don't see any chatter on the IU board about buying out the game. Can you link to the message board where you are seeing this? The only talk I see about the game is there fans predicting a win. The IU schedule is posted with an away game. I don't think they would change anything this late.
-
I have a feeling the chatter is just fans not wanting to travel to MAC stadium. I can not believe that there is any truth to this on the administration's side.

Outstanding news! I am thrilled to here that Walt Harris will be a part of the staff! Way to go JD!
-
football scoop lists that their is interest but doesn't confirm the hiring.
-
I was excited about Shane Montgomery(and still am) but the idea of adding Walt Harris into the mix as well would really be amazing. I think the Zips will be able to take recruiting to whole new level with these guys.
-
I saw this posted over on ncaabbs.com as well. I think that this will turn out to be a good hire. Not only is he familiar with the MAC, he was a good recruiter. He might not have had great success as a head coach, but he had to do something to get that opportunity.
-
There is not a dominate team to fear in the MAC this season. I think the West discounted the idea of an East team winning the championship in football, but we know how that turned out. I don't think it is very smart to rationalize your way to a championship. The tournament is one and done and the best team doesn't always win. The East will be in better position and I like our chances, but I am not about to quickly dismiss the rest of the league.
-
Does anyone know when Will Clark is supposed to make his final decision? I noticed his is still listed as unsigned at this point. Hopefully, we get some good news here soon.
-
Thanks Captain! It is great reading all the information you bring to the board.

Not to rain on your parade but its the NATIONAL Football League. Not the INTERNATIONAL Football League.I had to work in the student union the entire game and missed it all! For the 5.5 hours I was there I had about 7 ppl an hour! When I counted my drawer I had only $5 more then what it costs to pay me for the night!!!Are you serious? Are you telling me that you have never heard the SuperBowl Champs referred to as World Champs? What other country is playing football and would represent a challenge to the title? You might have an arguement in baseball, basketball or hockey as there are other professional leagues set up, but football? Do the Steelers have to go up and beat the CFL Champ to earn that title in your mind? The Steelers are the World Champions in football this year and next years Superbowl Champ will have the same title.
