I hope Can't earns an at large bid. It is good for the conference and ultimately the Zips. The MAC needs to earn at large bids every year to help our reputation as a league. This website: www.rpiforecast.com gives Can't a 99.90% chance of being invited to the tournament. It also thinks that Akron will beat Can't in our final regular season game. The website also has Akron going to the NCAA tournament by virtue of winning the conference tournament.

Unbelievable, I am at loss for words. What a terrible tragedy! My prayers and toughts go out to the NIU students, faculty, and families. I don't have any NIU clothing but will be wearing a MAC shirt today.

That is some major speculation. I don't think anyone should get their name dragged around without some proof. He might have changed for a million different reasons. At this point, I don't think it fair to assume that these two events have anything related.

It is up on gozip.com already-amazing. It looks like a solid class. I haven't heard any questions regarding eligibility or character. I take that as a good sign and feel like this is JD's best strength. He is an awesome guy and I can see why he can recruit. I think that he has made better in roads in Ohio and they will continue to benefit the Zips for years to come.

This sounds like an easy decision. This kid is not The University of Akron material. Our programs standards are higher than this. We do not need to take anyone who happens to be talented at football. Our staff has done a good job of being more selective and this is not the type of athlete we need. Let him be headlines some where else.

The question of whether Akron can ever achieve what Boise State or Utah did-the answer is absolutely! Of course any school can hit that stretch and be up with the BCS schools for awhile. I think the WAC and MWC are bringing in bigger crowds establishing better TV contracts and pulling away from the MAC right now. Our conference, along with CUSA and the Sun Belt, are being overshadowed by our BCS conferences. The MWC is winning fans from across their states. Utah/BYU is a state wide rivalary, New Mexico/New Mexico State, Nevada/UNLV, Boise State/Idaho, and schools like Hawaii are not competing against an established fan base. The B10 and SEC draw an enormous amount of support from their states. If Akron is going to become a real player in DI-A football, they are going to have to show the NE Ohio that they are competitive with the B10 year in and year out. They will need to pull Buckeye fans into our stadium. We need the financial support of 30K strong for a decade to rise to level of elite non-BCS programs.

I guess it would depend on this legal issue. If OSU went as far as pulling a scholarship, I am guessing it is a serious offense. I don't think we need to go after someone with serious legal problems. If this is something on the minor side, like an underage drinking offense, I think Akron would have to evaluate if it was out of character or if this kid is not Akron material.

Employees get a discount on tuition, room and board but it is not free. An athletic scholarship covers tuition, room, board and books. When traveling their is no difference between a walk on or scholarship athlete. Everyone gets their per diem and room covered.

Temple WR Recruit Flys the Coop
Zips fan replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
We definitely can, but if they show promise then we can't afford them. We have had some very good assistant coaches come and go through our program. It is tough for Akron to retain quality coaches with the salaries we pay compared to the BCS. -
Temple WR Recruit Flys the Coop

This kid is coming from high school not a junior college. His is also a top 100 receiver. This is a great pick up! Let wait and see how the recruiting ends up before we declare it broken. -
MAC Hoops Report: A New Postseason Tournament
Zips fan replied to MACReport's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
In the Macreport, he talks about the alternate tournament to the NIT. If the Zips did not get an invite to the NCAA tournament, would the Zips turn down the NIT for the new tournament. I still am bitter about last years snub by the NIT and would be in complete agreement if the Zips were able to return the favor. I am confident the Zips will earn a NCAA bid and this will be moot point. I just want to see the NIT lose its status as the second tournament. There idiot selection committee is a joke and hopefully the undoing of their status. -
Is BG that bad or were we that good tonight? Wow!! We totally dominated every facet of that game. It was good to see the starters get a break.
-
Akron's RPI is not going to matter at the end of the season. We have five games teams in the MAC with RPI's over 200. Win or Lose, our RPI can not go much higher. We need to win the regular season for the NIT and the tournament for the NCAA bid.

It is kind of a toss up for me. The idea of undefeated teams is cool along with putting ourselves in great position for a bye in the first round of playoffs, but I just don't want to root for Can't. I guess I am rooting for a 4 OT game that leaves both teams exhausted.
-
It looks like BG splits their minutes between seven players. They have been outrebounded slightly at this point in the season 35.4-34.7 and they don't have anyone that stands out. They look like they score and rebound by committee. I hope the Zips don't overlook this team and continue to play at the Zips level.

Awesome clip! I enjoyed watching that a few times.

I agree that we have had a team effort to this point but Woods is our best player. J Woods would have to be the MVP at this point of the season. You could argue a different person from game to game but I think J Woods is critical to our success every game.

Three cheers for Bubba! The MVP of the game for the Zips once again is Bubba Walther. This is the second year in a row that Bubba has bombed out at the JAR. It could not have ended any better in my eyes. A classic Bubba mistake with the game on the line. Bubba you have definitely earned your year and half scholarship at Akron since you left. Thanks for being the arrogant selfish player when it counts the most. Remember Bubba, no one remembers the assist, be the hero no matter what! Be the man, take the shot and don't worry about anything else. Thank you Bubba for transfering, the outcome might have been very different if....no wait-it would be the same, KD wouldn't put up with your poor shot selections.

The MAC is a one bid conference, period. The last at large bid was???? I don't care about SOS and our OOC schedule nearly as much as the MAC. It is time to play against the conference schools. This is the only place our confernce schools needs to worry about. The top record is gauranteed the NIT and the tournament champion, the NCAA bid, everyone else goes home. KD can schedule who ever he wants. He is getting the most out of this team and that is what counts.

Great overall game for the Zips! Great effort and Dials was shooting!!

Congrats to Zippy!!! Outstanding!

I have enjoyed the series with YSU. It is a good game where fans from both teams are able to make the trip. The Zips have had the upperhand during the series but YSU is no pushover. I expect a good game with the Zips coming out victorious. We have been dominant at home. Prediction: Akron 81 YSU 72

A 4-star recruit with two scholarship offers? Only one BCS school had interest? Either his star rating is overly inflated or he has some huge skeltons in his closet. He is going to Ohio so I am going to guess both.
-
Not to diminish the win, but Houston is not that good. They are 4-7 with an RPI of 186. The Zips are 5-5 with an RPI of 117. Coach Krest has done an amazing job and does deserve more fan support. I think the Zips will be competitive within the conference this season. I don't know if we have caught up to a sweet sixteen team like BG yet, but I think it is possible for the Zips to see .500 this year.
