  1. The idea of moving to the Big East is great. I think we are closer than some people believe. The idea of moving to C-USA is never going to happen. They are a parallel move at best and honestly, probably a step down. They have more bowls and TV money currently, but they are going to lose their top schools at some point (UCF, ECU, and Memphis). Their conference will be based out of Texas(SMU, Rice, Houston, UTEP) and makes no sense for Akron. I would be absolutely against moving to C-USA. Attendance is bad now, imagine how many SMU fans are going to make the trip. Akron needs to move to the Big East or stay in the MAC. There is no other option.
  2. I agree! Thank you to the players, coaches and fans for making this a great victory! It takes alot of dedication to get a win out there and the coaches keep getting the job done against Can't. Way to go Zips!
  3. Can't state is located near an awesome university!
  4. I don't know if I would give OU that much credit. Wyoming lost by 44 last week, Northwestern is not that strong, CMU beat them at their place, and OSU has not shown that they are a national power this season. I will admit they have been close in a couple of games but they are 0-4 for a reason. Akron should definitely be ranked higher at this point in the season. They insinuate that the Zips are lucky to be at #7. Both of our wins are against I-A squads, we are not putting I-AA on the schedule to get the easy W. Grant it Army and Syracuse are bad this year, but they would still beat most I-AA squads.
  5. Glad to see a place becoming the hometown teams bar. I wish I still lived in Akron! I would have loved to have been there! Great win today by the Zips!
  6. This is really bad. I remember how excited JD was about Bain. I thought he was going to be a huge pickup for the Zips this season. Hopefully, JD will reveal what is going on. I hope it is only temporary.
  7. Thank you Lebron for supporting your hometown team! I don't care who Lebron cheers for outside of Akron. He has been an outstanding citizen to city of Akron and The University of Akron. I don't understand how someone who come onto a Zips board and make negative statements about Lebron's affliations outside of the scope of the discussion. Does it really bother you who his favorite teams are? Are you serious about it mattering what hat he wears? The guy just got the Zips a deal that would have been only a dream if our marketing dept was dealing with Nike. He is helping our university and someone is complaining because he was on the USC sidelines . You have got to be kidding!
  8. I don't think UMASS will be a football playing member of the BE. I don't think they are moving in that direction currently. Once the split occurs, the BE will be looking for current members of I-A. I worry more about Temple and Buffalo than UMASS. I hope Mack and Luis are keeping tabs on BE and are aware of the criteria the BE is looking to add. I have a lot of faith in Dr. Proenza and Mack doing the research to make the correct move to position us correctly.
  9. If UMASS had any dreams of joining the BE, they would need to be making steps currently to get their football program to the I-A level. The split is going to be the football schools leaving and I don't see UMASS as ready to be a part of this.
  10. I wouldn't discount Temple that easily. You might be right about bad blood but they still have some strong positives. The Philadelphia location, tradition for basketball, and facilities are a plus too. I think Buffalo could be considered a rival for Syracuse and would help secure the NY region. I think Toledo doesn't anything over Akron other than tradition/fanbase. Those would be easily remedied with being in the BE. If Temple's relationship is to far gone for consideration, we would have to take an honest look at what Akron/Buffalo would bring to the BE. I definitely think we would be in the equation if a split occurs.
  11. You are right that there should be 4 slots available is a split does occur. Right now, I think ECU, UCF and Memphis are the top 3. The remaining slot would be between Temple, Toledo, Buffalo or Akron. I think that we stand a decent chance compared to these schools but alot will depend on how the Info effects attendance.
  12. I would love to see The University of Akron Zips in the Big East but I think this might be a big stretch. The Big East currently has 9 football members. If a split were to occur from the bastketball schools, the Big East might look for an additional 3 schools to join. So the question becomes who are the three schools that would best fit the Big East in an expansion move. I think the top three right now would be Memphis, ECU, and UCF. All three have superior attendance and name recognition. Memphis brings a basketball program and major market that would be hard to compete against. ECU brings a nationally ranked football program that averages over 40K per game. UCF is a huge school that would be a natural rival for USF. I honestly believe the Zips could be on the radar for the Big East but not sure if we are there yet. I think we would be the fourth or fifth option at this point with Toledo being the other. We will need the Info to make a significant change in the attendance to make the stronger arguement.
  13. Ball State is a strong team but it is at the Rubberbowl. I think the Zips hold on to a lead and sweat it out on the final drive.Akron 34 Ball State 31
  14. The MAC is looking great right now!Lets go Bobcats! Lets Go Redhawks! Lets Go Owls! Two great games against the B10 powers and Temple beating UConn of the Big East! Keep it up MAC!!
  15. It is great to see the MAC off to a decent start this season. BGSU, Buffalo, and Temple all picked up quality wins. BSU, EMU, and CMU won games against I-AA's which should be a given. The only embarrassing loss for the conference was Miami getting handled at home by Vandy. I would like to see the MAC get some more national attention wins before the end of the out-of-conference season.
  16. I beg to differ. Navy is still very good (they'd kill any MAC school) and Air Force has been respectable of late.Is this Navy program, that would kill any MAC school, the same Navy that lost to Ball State last year? I believe the last time Akron played Navy ('99) was at their place and we walked away with the win. There is no service academy that plays at a higher level than the MAC. There might be some good games but a service academy would not win the MAC title.
  17. No! JD has been quoted many times talking about quality character athletes. He does not fit the mold that JD is trying to develop.
  18. It is great to see UA win both titles. The men pulled it out in the final relay to win by 1 point. The women scored over200 points! Only WMU was even over 100. Dominating performance by the track teams!!!
  19. I am very excited that Zeke will be joining the Zips! KD is a great coach and really has the program poised for greatness. It will be interesting to see if Zeke's addition will lead to any other national caliber players joining him in the 09 recruiting class.
  20. I think that the Zips should reasonably expect attendance to be over 18K for each decent weather game. Also, I think the Zips should expect to sell-out for Can't and come close to 30K if we are in a title run.
  21. If Ray is not a qualifier, it does not matter if he receives an offer or not. He will be a walk-on for one year to get his academics in line before receiving a scholarship.
  22. I hope UMass wins it all now. In some warped way, it will make me feel better if our loss came against the top team at their place.
  23. WOW!!! Coach Krest did inherit a team that was not getting it done and I trust this move was necessary. She is losing several key players on a young team. Coach Krest seems like a good coach who is struggling to find players that fit her program.
  24. I think that KD is able to get the DI athletes over the other MAC schools. This is why Ohio and Can't have to look outside the region. I don't think many coaches are going to look outside their footprint unless they have to extend themselves.
  25. Akron(#80) does have a better RPI than Miami(#81) by 1 spot. www.realtimerpi.com Since RPI is tied into all the previous games you play this switches back and forth(even if Akron or Miami are not playing).
