  1. No! I don't agree. I think Ianello is not a good fit here and has taken a team with some potential to have a decent season to the bottom of I-A football in one year. I don't think things are going in a good direction and hope that The University of Akron will take the steps necessary to put us on a path toward another MAC Championship. I think that Ianello is a flop as a head coach and the sooner we can fix this error the better.
  2. After another embarrassing loss to a fellow MAC school, I tried to look for some moral victories. Moral victories should be beneath this team and playing close to a conference mate is setting the bar way too low, but here they go. 1) We came closer to the spread than any other recent games. 2) Our defense held them to under 400 yards(399) 3) We are one game closer to the end of RI coaching tenure at The University of Akron.
  3. I still think a 29.5 point line if laughable. There is no way we will come close to covering. I am not sure we will be within 29.5 after the first quarter and think we have no chance of being within 29.5 points by half. It is really sad but I think we will be down 49-0 at half, and will finally get some relief against their fourth string to finish at 63-10. Please icoach, realize you are in over your head. Work with the administration to facilitate an early buyout. This can't be fun for you and it is time to move on. Let the Zips have a chance to recover next season with a fresh start.
  4. This team has gone from bad to embarrassing. I thought it was bad losing to Syracuse at home, but not being able to play with WMU is embarrassing. I have not agreed with the getting rid of the coach sentiment earlier but it is time. There is no way icoach is going to work out here. It is time to enter into negotiations and see what icoach would take to walk away. He will have no coaching future at this rate at any level. He needs to leave and Akron needs to start their search now. Do we still have Brookhart under contract? Get him back here to finish the year out and then hire a real coach!
  5. And their budget also dwarfs any other sport. Unfortunately, it also dwarfs their revenue.
  6. I don't know if any sport at Akron is truly profitable but I can guarantee that football is the largest financial drain on the athletic department every year. Soccer is doing a great job bringing the fans in!
  7. I know this is a game we should win, but still good to see how dominating this team can be. GO ZIPS!!!
  8. I know that some people are very upset with Lebron and want nothing to do with him. What about the other side of the coin here? Does Lebron have a true friend in The University of Akron with the recent developments? His biggest fault, choosing to play somewhere other than Cleveland. Unless some horrible story comes out or he does something specifically negative to The University of Akron, I am still a Lebron fan. His positive contributions to the Akron area easily outweigh where he is playing for me.
  9. Wow! You are really this pissed off about Lebron? I root for The University of Akron and am happy that Lebron has been helpful to the program. Now, I am supposed to hate him because he left Cleveland? If he keeps supporting The University of Akron, I will remain a Lebron fan. If he would have dissed The University of Akron, I could understand cutting ties but he chose another NBA team. It would be foolish to cut ties with someone who has done nothing but positives for The University of Akron. Too bad for the Cavs, wish he would have stayed, life will go on.
  10. I don't see the upside to joining C-USA. Now that Memphis is not a basketball power, what do they offer. Their basketball is similiar to the MAC and any football program gets a bowl bid for 7 wins in both conferences. The ability to travel becomes much more difficult for fans and our poor attendance will receive almost no visiting fans. I don't want to play SMU, UTEP, Houston, and Tulane. Akron needs to step up, but C-USA does not offer Akron better opportunities, it offers more travel for the team and less travel for fans. I would rather stay in the MAC than C-USA. A conference like the Big East offers different opportunities not available to the MAC or C-USA. I would love to move toward the Big East but not C-USA.
  11. Who really cares what you think? I see your name in a thread and figure it is just a matter of time before you start your stupid rants again. Go troll somewhere else!
  12. How is St. Francis, PA considered MAC-level? I have been to there campus. There is nothing about St. Francis that would be considered MAC level.
  13. Well, the results will speak for themself after two years. I am not going to place much on his past history of recruiting or lack of head coaching experience. He is getting a great opportunity. He is here now, give him a chance and lets see how this pans out.I read futher down on the scoop list of hirings going on. Mike Waddell is a finalist for the Can't AD job.
  14. Even though Virginia is going to hire him today, I like the type of guy we are interested in...defensive guy with head coaching experience.I am also glad that we are not only looking at local guys who some posters think we need because they can "recruit this area" I think that's hog wash.I am telling you, go after Mickey Matthews of James Madison.I think Mickey Matthews would be a great hire!
  15. I stand corrected. I forgot A-10 football decided to go by the name Colonial Athletic Association a few years ago.Not trying to be jerking on this but the CAA is not in any way the former A-10 conference. The teams in the CAA are their own conference for all sports. Schools such as James Madison, William and Mary, Richmond, George Mason, and Delaware make up the conference. The A-10 dropped football as a conference. Schools that have programs joined as affliates with other conferences. Currently the CAA is loaded with schools at the top of I-AA(3 in the top 5) and would be a good place to start the search.Well you succeeded anyway. IN EFFECT, what I stated is the absolute truth (see wiki link below.....got to A-10 football near the bottom of the link). CAA FOOTBALL is essentially the former A-10 FOOTBALL conference. Perhaps you should do a little research before you open your mouth next time.LinkAlright, this will be my last post on this topic because it is not relative to Zips stuff at all. The only member of the A-10, that is affiliated with the CAA for football is Richmond. The rest of the schools play in a conference like the MAC does. Temple is affliated with the MAC in football, yet remains an A-10 member. So the MAC has as many A-10 teams as the CAA does. Some of the CAA schools played in the A-10 before the conference sponsored football. This does not make it the former A-10 football conference. The CAA sponsored football and its full time conference members decided to played in their own conference. The A-10 folded their sponsorship of football, not renamed it after an existing conference.Dumb points, Dumb arguement! Go Zips!!

  17. Interesting story and they sound pretty good. How does someone develop hatred toward a group of people? I don't get it. It makes no sense to have feelings of hatred toward a group of people that live differently. Is it that irksome that they use horses? that lack of electricty gets under your skin? those strange hat? can't stand the beards? It is a strange dislike.
  18. I agree that we are going to better off trying to find a I-AA head coach rather than a coordinator at a large I-A school. The A-10 does not offer football, so I would consider going after someone in the CAA which is the strongest I-AA conference currently, maybe the Richmond or Villanova coach.
  19. Somehow, someway I think the Zips pull this game off. Syracuse is still a bad football team and would be middle of the MAC at best. The Zips are down but I think if they are going to rally some positives this season, this will be the start. I predict:Zips 31Syracuse 21
  20. Thanks for the update! Keep them coming if you can. I can't find anyone doing a gametracker on this.
  21. The MAC is a solid midwestern conference that has tremendous history and a collection of schools that have been around for over 50 years. Akron has invested in its facilities and made no secret that the school has aspirations of moving up if the opportunity arises. Will The University of Akron ever be able to achieve at such a high level that we will be in line to move up? The are several schools with strong traditions (Toledo, Miami, WMU) that have not even come close to making the jump. Our facilities are top notch, but our revenue and operational expenses are very MAC level right now. I know football is having a bad couple of weeks, but will we ever break the MAC level crowds? Are we destined to be rivals with Can't forever and battle the rest of this conference with mid level support, mid level budgets, and occasional upsets that are rare enough to only get the locals attention for a week or two. What will it take for Akron to grow bigger that our counterparts? We have an awesome new stadium and we still are battling for attendance. I like the MAC and think it is where we belong currently, however; I fear that if we don't start to capitalize on our enhanced facilities now, others will catch up and we will be MAC forever.
  22. I disagree that their are no minor recruiting violations. The NCAA rule book is huge. Coaches must take a recruiting test each year to get certified. You can miss 7 out of 40 on the recruiting test and still be eligible. There are minor issues from communication issues (texting, calling, chat rooms, number of times, recruiting calendars) to major issues where someone is trying to deceive rules to get an advantage. I will hold all judgements until more information becomes available.
  23. Unbelievable! I don't know what he did but it must be something severe. An indefinite suspension is a big deal. Let's go Matt! Get in there and earn your stay.
  24. I think this team has way too much pride to lose at home. They will defend the Info and easily defeat IU.Akron 31Indiana 10also, soccer game predicitionZips win by same score 31-10(lots of offense).
