Probably this game? This is probably the game, and it looks like maybe it cost the Zips a bye? Or at least an easier home game? They lost the next game to OU @ home. I don't remember this game as much as I remember the one in 2000 when the Zips were rolling through the league at 7-1 or more, and lost a game late @ UB with a few timely turnovers. Was the beginning of the end for that team ending the season 3-7 in their next 10 or something like that. EDIT: Didn't cost them a bye but perhaps they would have had the 12 seed @ home instead of the 11 seed? Per Wiki.

These are similar to my reservations on the thing. I know I'm a BB fan first, and I see UA as a hoops school before football, but I think striking the right balance here is really critical. This starts to feel like 1986 to me a little .. and we certainly don't want anything like that.

Just thinking the same thing. I exchanged greetings with Tom on Saturday .. and it wasn't me. Perhaps it was Dr. Z? Or The Wolf?

A little more fuel for the fire. I remain with GP1 on some of this. And somewhat skeptical on the whole thing .. but if he were coming in just to take part in a search committee .. wouldn't that have been clarified by one side or the other by now? I do have a big concern about all of this. If for *whatever* reason, JT is not the coach (he's not interested, UA can't afford, whatever), will Zips fans be able to be upbeat, optimistic or excited about ANY other coach that fills the vacant HC position? Any one? I worry that all of this exuberance over an internet rumor will put whomever is ultimately hired behind the 8-ball on fan opinion before he even puts on the blue & gold tie for his introductory press conference. This could end up being very poisonous for the program, and it's somewhat out of the program's control. Go Zips!

That would seem to eliminate Mark Farley (longtime coach at Northern Iowa) who has a game to coach on the 3rd. Seems like a pretty quick decision and short "national search" .. I tend to believe this would be a meeting to rally the troops and make sure they're up to speed on what the time-line looks like. After all, has there been a team meeting since the departure of RI was announced on Saturday? Doesn't seem unusual to me that there'd be a team meeting today.

You said you wanted a place to take it easy and still make an impact on kids lives. Akron is that kind of place. You want to make good on your name and legacy and you are about teaching football. Well Akron desperately needs to be taught how to play football. I'm not interested in a guy looking to take it easy. His easy job was OSU. It's hard as Hell to win at Akron and we don't need a guy to take it easy. We want a guy who will work his butt off to get the easy job at a school like OSU. I think DrZ would disagree. I also think JZ84 might disagree. I also think Zips Win! might disagree. I disagree as well. We pulled a quick lever the last go around. I think some patience and diligence is required now more than ever. My guess is that the poster on Rasor's post is closer to the mark: TW is calling on people like Tressel and Dennison to either take part in the search committee, or act as defacto "search firm" to build the best candidate list he can come up with.

Isn't this exactly why everyone believed TW hired his pre-school playmate 2 years ago? It wasn't drawn out and careful ... ? Why would we want a similar quick strike this time?

I think the worldwide leader has rights to that game, and can determine (something like 3 weeks ahead of time) which date they want it for. Probably if they're going to broadcast it, it'll end up on Friday .. if not, it'll go to Saturday.
