Looks like a potentially good pickup. Ranked #100 by scout.com there. High interest, offers from NC, Marshall, Vandy.

Is it possible to get a home game in August?
Quickzips replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
Only chance to see Wolfe really next year is probably in the MACC. Looking at things very early though I wouldn't discount a rematch of this years game at all. We may just get to see him there. -
Nah, just has a nasty after taste.
-
Someone on macbbs said that the Falcons hit 34 of 35 from the freethrow line tonight. That is damn impressive.

Tonight shows that Tuesday was a fluke
Quickzips replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Only thing it shows me really is another illustration of the MAC East teams beating up on one another. But hey, so long as the zips come out on top at the end its all good. -
Zips pick up a W tonight against Miami in the JAR, I didn't make it out of my Thursday class in time to go tonight or I would have. In a related story BG came into the MACC tonight and handed Can't a 5 point loss. Hello tie atop the MAC East again. Ohh yeah, Buffalo is handling OU pretty well right now at home too.

He would still jump and run if a BCS school offered him the same amount of guarunteed money as we would be offering him in incentives.
-
Good thinking, but unless we can offer him a BCS level contract it isn't going to do much to keep him here if/when bigger offers start coming in.

French is nice to listen too I just don't like how he goes into doom and gloom mode the moment another team scores. It gets a little frustrating to listen too whenever we get down by 1 or 2 and you hear things like "well this one is starting to get out of hand" or "zips are not looking good right now" or "I don't know if they can turn it around". Call me crazy but when you are still in a close game I would like to hear a little more optimism. Guess it is all about preferance though.

Mike and Dan,The comment I made was in no way a shot directley at you but more a shot at the Buchtelite in general. I will be the first to admit that it has gotten much better since my first year here. However, there is much room for improvement. I'm not really sure whether or not you guys have a good grip as to how that paper is viewed by students around this campus. Go out to the dining hall, or the student union, or the law school student lounge one day. Find a bunch of strangers and just start talking to them about the paper. A fair number of them are probably going to have no clue what you are talking about. A little bigger number are going to think it is a joke, mainly due to the ridiculous advice columns (you know the ones where some student looking to have a good laugh writes in to one of your staffers about how her boyfriend wants her to partake in some bizarre sex ritual and then your staffer has to write back with the traditional, "well, whatever feels right for you" garb). Then there is the weekly geek beat column that just screams of second rate newspaper. And please don't get me in to the idiotic cartoon about the guy talking to some squirel. Whoever came up with that idea should be banned from the Buchtelite staff for life and shot on the spot if he/she ever returns. Now I will give you guys credit. Since I've started here the ridiculous crime blot that took up like 1/4 of the first section has disappeared. The op.eds. have gotten much better. Personal biases in the regular news stories have been minimized, and the sports section is much improved. That said, there is still a long way that you guys have to go in order to give this paper a decent reputation. As for the column, the only thing that putting out unsubstantiated rumors and exagerating the facts in lead ins to the story on the internet (claiming that these are Smith/Weber style allegations) does is reflect badly upon this university and your paper. You guys need to do better than that, praticularly when leaking information to the public.Just my thoughts though. Take them for whatever you'd like.

I'm sorry to say it Rasor but this story leaves me incredibly disappointed. I was really looking forward to seeing something more than just the "his dads friends with an assistant" line that we've seen the last week or so. You know, something to shut the Bobcat fans up and really get them worried. Instead we got just another example of why the Buchtelite is widly regarded across campus as a second rate attempt at journalism.

Aww, but I thought I heard Bubba already asked Nick to be his best man.

Care to put a friendly wager on that promise for next football season my misguided Ohio fan? Say something like, if Akron wins you come on here and admit that Akron is the superior team and superior program. I do the same at bobcatattack should Ohio win. P.S. I like my odds on this one.

Yeah, I couldn't even hear Frenchie over the static for most of the game.

Hakes Already in School at Akron
Quickzips replied to KingZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Ok, good, the thread below had my blood pressure rising a little bit there. I'm really looking forward to seeing this kid on the field. -
Can't speak for ONN but I was listening to the game in my dorm room (at Akron) and I gotta say that 1350 is horrific. There were times that I couldn't even hear through all of the static. I still don't like Frenchie all that much either. We get down by 2 or 3 early in the second half and he gets that "woe is me" tone to his voice. I know he's been around a lot of crap here in Akron over the years but it gets depressing listening to him.

Ohio wins by 3. Linhart in foul trouble all night. From the sounds of it we got eaten up inside (no real huge surprise there) and we just couldn't get anything to drop from the field. From what I could hear on the crappy 1350AM radio broadcast we were only shooting around 40% for most of the night. I'm not a basketball expert but that don't sound to good.

Do you like our current uniforms?
Quickzips replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
Just to note on the Blue pants that we wore at the Army game. I remember hearing Frenchie or Dunn (can't remember which) on the radio saying that the last time we wore them umpteen years ago we got destroyed by a weak opponent too. Now I ain't one to be superstitious or anything but....BURN THE BLUE PANTS! -
Chase still went undrafted though.
-
Like I said before, I don't really have any problem having three QB's on our roster with the talent of Hakes, Jackson and Jaquemain. Chosing the right one of those three to run the offense is a dilemna that I would love to have if I were JD.
-
Zipwatcher hits it pretty well on the head. Right now all we can do is sit back and wait.
-
6th or 7th round if he even gets drafted at all from what I've heard around the rumor mills. May very well also end up as an undrafted free agent somewhere. In all honesty as a late round WR talent in the NFL draft you've got just as good a chance flipping a coin to determine if you will be drafted.
-
One of the three may very well need to. In all honesty though, I don't think I really mind having 3 QB's of their caliber on our roster.

Christ, just found this thread at macbbs. http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/mac/phpbb/vi...pic.php?t=30331This Hakes kid looks like a stud. I personally like the second video more b/c the first one tends to show more of him scrambling and playing defense. Things I notice.-Dude's got some wheels on him. He looks like a RB in the open field.-There are a couple of times in there that he makes 30-50 yard throws down field look like 8 yard slant routes. Kids got a cannon.-He makes just about all of the throws from those deep balls to the out routes, to the bubble screen to the TE dumpoffs.Remember he is doin all of that against Texas High School football talent which is arguably the best in the country. Does it make me gay if I get a bit of a hardon watching that? Christ.

another recruit lost to ohio?
Quickzips replied to gozips19's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
If I am thinking right we also have to look at some of the Academic Inelligables from last season and what not. Don't those guys go on scholarships for this year if they kept their grades up? And if so doesn't that take away from some of the scholarships we have to offer?
