BJ reports Walther won't get release from Dambrot
Quickzips replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Not saying that there is or there isn't violations from OU but there are some key points in your post my Bobkitten friend.#1- You mention that Coach O'Shea never talked to Walther, well thats all fine and dandy if Coach O'Shea is the only person on your basketball staff. While Coach O'Shea wasn't talking to him, was someone else on the staff talking? #2- Umm, didn't we beat, wait, humiliate you guys twice last year? Once in your own house? Aren't both teams returning most if not all of their key players from last season? #3- Concerning Bubba, you can have him. Quite frankly, I would rather see him pay to go to OU than see him on scholarship here. -
Ohh by the way, I got to see the mascot fighting cartoon tonight and I must say that was the most entertaining spot I have ever seen. UAM we need to start selling that spot. I want a copy. Brilliance, pure brilliance.

I enjoyed the game. Great crowd and any time you can win by 18 it isn't a bad thing. I have to admit I was a little frustrated at the start of the game. It seemed like we were just out there screwing around looking for that perfect shot and EMU opened up a double digit lead. Then it just seemed like a lightbulb went off, the pace quickend and EMU was nothing more than a sitting duck (pun intended). When we wanted to we could score at will it seemed like. Good game. *disclaimer: This comes from someone who knows little about basketball, excuse it if it is incoherent and otherwise unuseful*

Miami getting their first MAC loss ?
Quickzips replied to Valpo Zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Appears Miami has been handed their first loss. Maybe even more surprising is that CMU seems to be flat dominating Buffalo in Buffalo. Could two of the MAC East powers fall to two of the MAC West doormats? Could it be that at the end of the night only Can't and Akron remain undefeated in the MAC? -
I'll probably be there w/ a small group of students. This will only be my second game this year. Hope to get to some more though.

Do you like our current uniforms?
Quickzips replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
Please do not make comparisons between Zippy and the Golden Turkey, that is just downright insulting for the Roo. Also I agree with some others here. I like our uniforms as they are. I don't think they look too much like the rams save maybe the colors. I loved the throwback uni's, I think, I dunno, I couldn't see that much of them through all the snow on thanksgiving. Ohh and one more thing. PLEASE do not buy back the old piss yellow off of Can't. Crayola exec.'s should be shot if they ever make that into a crayon. -
Sounds like a kid who is trying to save face so the Zips don't have any locker room material to get them even more pumped up for games against OU.

Things to add:Until you can actually put more than 3,000 people in a high school stadium you guys may just want to let yours (high school stadium that is) sit empty and rent out a Pop Warner field. There is a position in football called Running Back, you guys might want to try recruiting one. See what happens. Couldn't possibly hurt.Speaking of recruiting, if you guys would like to try that it might not hurt either.Just because a guy can throw a baseball doesn't mean he can throw a football.<btw, my advice comes a LOT cheaper, in fact I will offer to advise the program for $5,000 a year as opposed to the $10,000 that you are paying Captain there>

Quickzips replied to Johnny Utah's topic in Akron Zips Football
Bottom line is JD is here and LO isn't and that as a wise man once said has made all the difference. -
How did I know that playoff game would get brought up. lol. Look at the scoring summary. Two of Holcombs TD passes were from outside the 20 (non redzone). Willy Weedhead had a one yard TD run and Holcomb hit Northcutt on a 15 yard passing TD. 2 other redzone drives resulted in FG's (defeats) from Phil Dawson. 2/4 on TD's inside the redzone. Granted it is better than what we did this year but still not wonderful. The only thing Holcomb ever did for the Browns was cause QB controversy the same way he has this year in Buffalo.
-
GP, in all fairness to Frye, Trent Dilfer couldn't do anything in the redzone for the Browns when he started either. In fact, since the Browns have come back, no QB has been able to do squat in the redzone. Not Garcia, not Couch, not Holcomb. It starts with the running game which was better this season but was completely shut down in the red zone and it moves to play calling where Maurice Carthon the offensive coordinator was completely lost.

Just throwing it out there but I know that one end of the FB stadium is gonna be left open from what I here. Why not leave that end open with the intentions to one day incorporate additional seating connected to a new bball stadium? Then say 10 years down the road you can add another 2-3K seats to the football stadium and put a top notch basketball arena up with them. Kind of a Gund (or Q as it is called now) Arena/Jacobs Field Gateway type setup only for basketball and Football and with a little UA flare. Just throwing it out there.

Its nit-pickey sh!t like that that is why you constantly see QB's like Akili Smith, Cade McNown and Ryan Leaf drafted in the first round. People see a bunch of measurements and go ape sh!t over a guy who couldn't play QB in the NFL to save his life.

Rob, www.ncaabbs.com click on the link at the top of the page for MAC conference boards. It tends to be an overexagerated pissing match b/w either:Toledo and BGOU and everyone else in the MACbut you do find some good information there. If you are looking for info on the MAC in general as well as other MAC schools it is about the best place to go that I know of w/out having to visit every individual schools message boards.

I find it rather ironic that the same BG fans that scream up and down that BG would have beat us had they had Omar (and in the process won the MAC) are now screaming up and down that they will be fine without him.

I agree, I've always hated the "Speed kills" analogy. Yeah, it works for your skill guys to a certain extent but in the trenches the only thing speed is good for is killing you. Put a speed guy up against a big mauler and tell them to push and the mauler is gonna win just about every time. There is some benefit to having one or two speed guys at like DE or LB to help get a pash rush but overall speed in the trenches is not needed. Give me the big uglies any day.

We need to get rid of one of those big away games for this season and put up a decent home game. Even if it is a CUSA, MWC or even Sun Belt team. Those 3 OOC away games are just gonna be rough on the zips. Lets hope all the BC talk holds true.

Continuing to feed the troll only encourages it to come out from under its bridge more frequently.

What would you focus on this offseason?
Quickzips replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
If I'm Swiger I think I'll keep my focus on med school. 7 Kickers NEVER get drafted and all he is likely to get is MAYBE a Rookie FA contract that would allow him to try and overthrow a big veteran kicker who is a staple with their current team. Not really a winning situation for him. -
And this is exactley the attitude that we need to change around here.

Volunteers and Suggestions Thread
Quickzips replied to Moderator's topic in Board Comments, Suggestions & Technical Support
I can answer yes to the living in the dorms part and I do follow (although not incredibly closely) recruiting and news articles on the zips. I'd also be willing to help. -
Put the talent around him and he will be a good NFL QB. You can have all the measurables you want with arm strength, mobility, accuracy and not get the job done as an NFL QB (Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Kyle Boller, etc., etc., etc.).
