My thoughts on the situation. #1-I am happy to have an AD in here. Period. The fact that he appears to be a good one makes me extatic, but just having a full time AD is helpful. I could be wrong, but part of me believes that having a full time AD would have helped with the Lolla situation. We will never know though. #2-This guy looks like a good blend of a money man and a winner. I like it. Let's see where it goes. #3-I hope for our sake that UAM stays around, but if he doesn't I don't think it will be a huge problem for the University. Thats about all I've got to say. Now lets go out and welcome this guy to the job with a Bowl win on Monday.

At 6'5" and nearly 300 pounds, I am not going to be the one to tell him where he has to play.

To me it comes down to this. When you present a high powered passing offense (I know we all love Biggs but our identity is in the passing game) against a high powered rushing offense there is bound to be 1 of 2 outcomes. Either a high scoring or low scoring game. High scoring favors us. Score early and often and force Memphis to have to throw more than they would like in order to keep up. If this is a low scoring afair then we loose. Biggs is a hell of a running back and I will never take anything away from him, but DeAngelo Williams is that much better. In a low scoring, ball control game against Memphis we are going to lose. That said, Hixon comes out on the opening kickoff and takes it 93 yards for the TD. Memphis struggles on its first series and is forced to punt. A heavy dose of Biggs combined with the short, high percentage, run after catch passing game on Akrons first real drive results in another TD. Memphis, down early, panics and starts trying to sling it around the field and the Zips win.

Chase Blackburn gets first NFL start
Quickzips replied to TheGreatOne's topic in Akron Zips Football
Didn't see all of the game but did see a stat in the fourth where he had something like 8 tackles and the announcers were mentioning him pretty fondly. Can only help UA to have a guy out there playing like that. -
You forgot the "all of the above" answer. Right now I don't think we can prioritize those three things. All three are vital to keep this program moving forward. Lolla needs to be replaced with someone who can take us that last step. Call me what you may, but I hope we hire the right person to bring home the College Cup while Lolla sits down in Louisville watching and wondering why in the world he ever left. We need to do our damndest to lock up JD for as long as possible, but I've resigned myself to the fact that he will leave eventually. Before you go calling me a hypocrite b/c of my stance on the Lolla issue let me explain. The difference between the $$ offered to coach at a BCS college or coordinate or coach on the NFL level and the $$ you can make as a MAC coach HUGE. The difference between what you can make in those same scenarios presented in soccer, ehh, not so huge. JD is eventually gonna get enticed by the $$. I don't know what the hell happened with Lolla. Dambrot needs locked up too. So he has his past demons. I have my doubts as to whether or not Thomas would have hired him if he felt he was still a problem. Dude can coach. See keeping JD above. Stadium. Do we really need to harp out the reasons that we need this???

Nick's Pick for the Motor City Bowl
Quickzips replied to IBleedMACGreen's topic in Akron Zips Football
Like I said on bbs though, this team plays its best when NOONE gives us a shot to win. So far Nick is about the only one who does, I only hope that he is not enough to justify bringing us out of that noone picking us to win phase. I like winning when we are the underdog. -
Just so long as we don't put up a glorified high school stadium and we put it up ON CAMPUS. I'm fine.

Ken Lolla accepts job at Louisville
Quickzips replied to Johnny Utah's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Noone is saying that this is more than just a job. What we are questioning is what makes the Louisville job any more enticing than staying at Akron? Lets look at the facts. -Equal pay. And yes, Proenza and the University offered to match Louisvilles offer. -His wife is from the area and his family has been settled here for 13 years. -Success, Akron has it and has a history of it. On top of that this team is poised to make multiple NCAA championship runs. Louisville is a dismal team with no soccer history. -Prestige, Akron soccer is one of the top 3 sports on campus. Take a look at the Buchtelite. 3 sports get the bulk of the sports coverage. Football, Basketball and Soccer. Going to Louisville you will constantly be overshadowed by a top 25 team in both Football and Basketball. It just doesn't add up. The only thing that Louisville can possibly give is a guarunteed NCAA bid for the long term future that the MAC can't (If he can even bring their sad excuse for a program up to par in order to recieve that bid) and the title of Big East. Please feel free to come up with any other good arguements as to why he is leaving, but do yourselves a favor and cut the "He wanted better pay" crap. It just makes you look ignorant and bullheaded. -

37 man, you seem to not be looking at one thing. UA offered to match Louisvilles offer to Lolla. Check the Sad Sad day thread. It should be in there. So now what do we have? -Equal money -Leaving a team that was ranked #1 in the nation for about a month -Going to a team that won a grand total of five games last year -Leaving a program that he's been loyal to for 13 years and turned down jobs elsewhere for. -Leaving a program that just gave him a nice new contract. -Leaving a program where student and community support is at its highest. -Going to a program where he will inevitably be overshadowed by Football and Basketball. The ONLY arguement that can be made is that he is mad about the seeding and the prospect of being screwed again down the road. If that is the case then he's a little pussy and the heck with him. Good coaches use that kind of stuff as motivation, not only for that year but for future years to come. They use that as an extra tool to keep players pumped up to show the nation how good they really are. They don't run for the hills crying like little pansy's. -

Come on, I can buy the arguement that the Big East is a better Basketball conference. I can even buy it on the level Football. But soccer? Do you really think that there is a HUGE pay increase from being a MAC soccer coach to being a Big East soccer coach? And yet you leave a #1 NATIONALY RANKED TEAM and a team that can easily compete any given year for the national championship for a team that had a wopping total of FIVE wins last season? No buy man. No buy. -
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the original post claim a bowl team from this year was coming to the Bowl? I don't think Cinci is bowl eligible this year. I might be wrong.

If he's so loyal and has turned down so many offers before then why leave now? And no, I don't buy the whole conference arguement. -

Screw Ken Lolla and Screw the NCAA. Lolla is a little pussy if he wants to leave after the University showed its loyalty to him by giving him a nice fat new contract. Boo Hoo Hoo I don't get the seeding I wanted in the tourney. Shut up. Good coaches use stuff like that as motivation, not an excuse to run for the hills. I won't even get into the NCAA opening the door for Lolla to have that excuse. -
Not doubting you as a source but I think I will wait til I see something official before I start pounding my head against the wall. Didn't we just give this guy a big, fat contract extension.

Are you going to Detroit on the 26th for the MCB?
Quickzips replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
About all I've got is me and my girlfriend. Got signed up for the buses up there today. According to the JAR ticket office there is already about 12 busloads of students signed up to go and more coming in each day. -

Chris Wells ignores commitment to Buckeyes
Quickzips replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
I wouldn't expect to see a 5 figure turnout from zips fans for a bowl game quite yet. Not to be a downer or anything but I just don't think the bandwagon has warmed up quite that much yet. 5-8K would be pretty reasonable. By the way ITZ. What is with the sig man. I don't get it, the sign or the chick holding it having a Can't hat on. I guess my head is too numb from finals week to comprehend. -
My apologies for being a little harsh, but after the kind of crap we have had to endure from people like WPIAL and our good friend the Rocket fan you can see why many people are quick to jump on someone. Praticularly whenever it is claimed that Kents class is going to be better than ours.
-
I know CK mentioned it but that really is nothing more than speculation based on geography. If Colorado comes out w/ JD on a short list or something like that then I will worry, but that right there doesn't worry me at all.

I've posted this before, and I will post it again. WARNING: Stop feeding the troll. Doing so only encourages it to come out from under its bridge more often.

Frye is the QB of the future for the Browns. PERIOD. On a somewhat related side note. Today Browns GM Phil Savage announced that next years when our #1 pick is announced his kneecaps will be broken immediatley. Just to get it over with.

How the hell can our finish NOT affect recruting. Right now is prime recruiting time. If you read the clippings from JD's press conference yesterday he had 8 recruits in this weekend. Ohh, and if Can't has a better recruiting class than us I will :macc: :macc: :macc:

I'm just kinda curious as to how effective you guys think your passing game will be in this one. NIU kinda proved last week that it takes more than a powerful running game to win in Detroit against us (although army manhandled us with theirs, but that was in a bad weather game where the pass just never could get going anyways). I know you guys are on like your #4 QB and he is a good runner as well, but do you think he will be able to throw the ball well enough to keep a little of the load off of DeAngelo Williams and get the victory? I only ask b/c in the end this is really what killed NIU. Putting too big a load on the RB, burning him out by the 4th Quarter and having no legitimate passing game.
