  1. This is the most accurate statement made to date about Quincy's situation. I completely concur. It is important to note that Quincy was NEVER charged by city prosecutors despite of two police reports. As I speak truth wrote, Quincy is aware of his mistakes and has been overly harshly treated by the University. There is a reasonable chance that Quincy will be back in school next semester. The coaches, teammates and his friends want him back on the team. It is highly likely this will happen. Be patient and let things work out without all this bluster and second guessing.
  2. Twenty-four previous posts in this thread. Nary a one mentioned that not once was Miami called for HOLDING. Nada, zilch, zero and all that; no holding calls not even where the Zip defender was literally tackled right in front of a referee. Shameless. To say that the officials did not influence the outcome of the game is ludicrous. The officials determined the outcome beyond a reasonable doubt. This conference has to go. Time to actively pursue the Big East. That kind of officiating is completely unwarranted and deserves a CRIMINAL investigation. While I agree that Akron's defense is woeful, this team is a solid three touchdowns better than Miami if the game is fairly officiated. The botched false pass interference is mute because the Zips scored immediately after the loss of down. More important are two "gem'me" touchdowns "awarded" to Miami. One at the end of each half. More important still are blatant bad calls of unnecessary roughness for hard hits. Football is not tiddly winks. No player is wearing a pink tutu and ballet slippers. If anyone complains of helmet to helmet contact or spearing, go review the game film and watch the Miami QB spearing at the end of at least of two of his runs. He was never flagged. The referees called a one sided game whether deliberately or unintentionally. They deserve a strong reprimand from the league. No one's excellent play should ever be penalized. It should be rewarded. Game ball to Akron.
  3. The needs for the near future in men's basketball were for tall/big power forwards and a center. These needs have been met with the verbal commitments of four outstanding young players. National Letter of Intent signing day is November six. All four were heavily recruited by both mid and high major schools. Three of them will be among the best seniors in Ohio high school basketball this Fall. The fourth, B J Gladden, is a bona fide three star recruit out of North Carolina. Akron was the only mid-major school on his short list. A great pick up for the Zips. Pat Forsythe, a transfer from West Virginia, is not considered as part of this recruiting class from a scholarship perspective.
  4. As part of the nationwide Coaches Against Cancer campaign the men's basketball program is selling wrist bands to raise funds for the cause. These wrist bands come in either white with blue lettering or dark blue with white lettering. The cost is three dollars or two for five dollars. All proceeds go to fight cancer. Wrist bands can be purchased at all home football games at the media table located at the north entrance of Infocision Stadium. Also they are available in the office of men's basketball located in the JAR arena.
  5. My apologies to you, Monica, if you feel slighted. Apparently none of you flaming me actually read my entire text. I do not know Coach Winters or his family. I am concerned that the next coach have principles. I was under the mistaken impression that all of his children were minors. Look again at what I wrote. Integrity is key. I placed Coach Winters ahead of any and all candidates except one. Read the text before calling me names and going off half cocked.
  6. Like to shuffle this just a bit. 1. unnamed candidate -- if he is who I think he is. Most of you will be very pleased. 2. Narduzzi -- excellent choice. 3. Johnson -- long shot, a really long shot 4. Winters -- now revealing why I place excellent coach Winters here. Moderator Edit: We WILL NOT have this type of activity here.
  7. Ron Paul is an Isolationist. Both World Wars can be traced directly to people who held Isolationist views. Paul would bare bones the US military and end aid to Israel. Both incredibility bad political moves. Teddy Roosevelt had the right idea. Speak softly and carry a BIG stick. I voted for Rick Santorum; a man who's views I share.
  8. Pick: The OC at Toledo, Campbell (recommended by JT, or so a birdie tells me)
  9. TIP: Paul Winters is NOT number one on the radar screen. Someone else is. I know who. Do you?
  10. This is old news. It does NOT impact his LOI. Get over it. Sheesh.
  11. Like him. An Akron kind of coach.
  12. Based on what I know; gczip22 probably has the most accurate "read" on the situation. It is time to stop the rumors, guessing, second guessing and fear mongering. Coach Dambrot has enough on his plate without Akron kin back biting him. Good news is that Tree might play Saturday. No guarantees on this; just a hunch.
  13. John Burns, a former Wittenberg player. And John Pignatti, a UD grad Two coaches mentioned in the article that were assistants at Akron under Hip. Both are great guys.
  14. Ray McCallum goes off for twenty-one points which included two deliberate misses at the free throw line late in the game. Detroit renamed their court after former head coach thee Dick Vitale and honored him with a win over Big East St. John's Red Storm 69-63. Good win for the Titans and reaffirms the quality of Akron's blow out win over these same Detroit Titans.
  15. @Hoopster,['b] well said. They will coalesce sooner or later.
  16. 2001? Who knew? I'm getting old, I guess. Fresno did tread some water at an elevated level for a couple years after Carr, but lately, my point stands that Hill's magic has pretty-much disappeared. While Boise has kept on rolling. 2, 4-win seasons out of the past 6 3 lower-tier bowl losses out of the past 4 appearances (granted, one more win than OU) The guy is obviously a good coach, but his best days appear to be behind him. I think it would be like the Vikings picking up Donovan McNabb. The Celtics picking up Shaq. Stats, schmatz...his better days are behind him. This is the first serious candidate mentioned since the withdrawal of Tressel's name. Since he is about the same age as Tressel ... what's the rub? This is the caliber of coach that leads the Zips up and out of the morass the past two coaches have put them in. Poor, well qualified, Paul Winters is not going to do it. Coach Winters just does not bring to the table the needed credentials. I am pleased if he even considers the Zips. Tommy W. go get him.
  17. As 2011 is reaching an end, I nominate this post as "Most Stupid Post of the Year". I know there are a lot of nominations for this category, but I think this has a chance of winning. +1 I agree. Stupid is, as stupid does. Forrest Gump
  18. I heard this also, I guess it would be safe to say that is a good sign for his future? We've seen players get suspended for far less, so maybe in all reality the situation isn't as bad as it initially seemed. If what he takes away from this misadventure is that he is above it all, we still lose. Akron and Tree both need for him to grow up and live by the rules designed to protect him. Here is to hoping that a lesson was learned and we hear no more of late night adventures by Tree or any of his team mates.
  19. Think small. It has never worked in the past.
  20. Yes. Two stages. First takes it to 45,000; second to 68,000. Don't fret. Hiring Paul Winters will cure any desire to expand.
  21. Source? Small problem ... coach Winters can not be interviewed until after his team is no longer playing. Thus, he has not been interviewed; nor could give a response, yea or nay. You are speculating and rumor mongering. Coah Winters is not the choice that will move Akron forward. He condemns Akron to mediocrity. They will pay him less than Ianello received just so they can cover the short fall. Bad decision. With your few posts you have no credibility. I say you are wrong and rumor mongering. Enough of that. State your source.
  22. Coach Burns is probably the classiest coach in the Big Ten. I have had the pleasure of several long conversations with him. Defeating the Zips probably was his greatest thrill; or maybe getting to the College Cup. Best of luck and fortune to coach Burns. And, no, Michigan may not have our coach Porter.
  23. Carl Pellini has some personal baggage that we do not really want at Akron.
  24. Dear Coach Tressel; Many, many University of Akron fans request your acceptance of the open University of Akron head coach position at this University. You, sir, are the ideal candidate. The future of Akron football hinges on getting a prime person to "right the ship.' You, sir, are that person. The University needs desperately to move up and out of the Mid-American Conference. To accomplish this the University needs a football program that is a winner, can draw recruits, fill the stadium, garner acceptance, and generate excitement. You, sir, have the skill set to make this happen. At Akron you will never be pressured to win eleven or twelve games each season. Akron is not a football mill; nor does it intend to be. Akron seeks to be a solid, above average program that is competitive nearly every season. Akron seeks to become a football program that draws a lot of interest at multiple levels. You, sir, can take this University to such heights. Gerry Faust came to Akron after several years at Notre Dame. A high caliber program similar to your Ohio State program. When coach Faust retired from coaching football he made Akron his home. While he could live in South Bend or Cincinnati he chooses to live in this community. We love him for that. At Akron you would have excellent resources. A nearly new stadium expandable to sixty-eight thousand seats. An indoor practice facility that is one of the best in the nation. A facility that you yourself desired for Ohio State. Akron also has both turf and grass outdoor practice fields on campus. A large eight thousand square foot weight room fully equipped and geared toward football. You, sir, have seen these facilities. Akron offers you a chance to "give back to the community". A community of loyal fans here in Northeast Ohio that revere you and would love to have you coach here. You can be the catalyst to re-invigorate this community. This is an opportunity to enjoy coaching football again. Do it. Fred Thomas aka GoZips and a host of others who agree with me.
  25. It was a freaking bar fight. There will be little or no LEGAL consequences. He probably only got arrested because he didn't co-operate with the cops. Hopefully, the Judge is a Zip alum. The school will spank him, but really the biggest question is what was he doing out at 2AM before a game? He has to stop that behavior at once. But please, this was NOT a rape or robbery or child molestation. It was just a bar fight. You sure are blase about a potentially bad situation. People have died in bar fights. Treadwell has a four count charge and is out of jail on bond. No judge is going to turn a blind eye to a powerfully built man of six-seven pounding his fists on a smaller man. Public intoxication and underage intoxication are also charges. With good lawyering and some breaks Tree is looking at a fine, probable community service and a cost of several thousand dollars which he is not likely to have. Let us hope for the best and not turn a blind eye. This is not a pretty situation. Please get your facts straight. Treadwell was out after the Saturday night game. Like you stated; he has no business being out at that hour of the night. He was also charged with resisting arrest. Cops take a really dim view of judges who do not punish people for this offense. Dim like opposing them at their next election. There is nothing cute, funny of small about this situation. IT must be handled carefully or we could well lose this young man. The objective is to get him on the right path and permanently away from the influences that had him out partying at two AM.
