Hmm, suppose you thought the same thing of Ohio going after Solich. I'm not for going for Tressel, he's obviously a scoundrel. But to think that he is somehow "above Akron" is laughable. He would be lucky to land a MAC gig after everything is said and done.

I completely disagree. That field holds water perfectly. I caught a carp on it just last week. Welcome, and I agree with you about investment. But Football won a championship to get those donations rolling on something long over due. I asked a long time ago what the baseball team needs to be successful. To me the goal should be to beat Can't at everything. It is nice to get fresh ideas.

You know that is a smack in the face of a Kansas football player somewhere.

And it stands out from the other renderings. I think this shows major intent by UPA, UA, the city and the Downtown Akron Partnership. It is really the only named building in the whole master plan.

I assume a layout similar to this Minnesota

Bingo... Oh and check this out when you get a chance (around 3:08). University Park Master Plan It was shown at the UPA luncheon on Wednesday.

University Park Master Plan Here is the UPA Master Plan video from this year's luncheon. A very nice and interesting piece of the plan shows up at about the 3:08 mark.

What I read is that Petro wants more authority to go to the universities, in fact they are passing something that makes it easier to aquire land and do construction. They want growth, they just don't want the tax payer to pay for it. Quite different from stagnation.

If anyone wanted to see more detail. Team Lounge

Seen it a while ago, maybe even mentioned it on here. This is just the official announcement. This is a step forward, but truthfully we need a new arena. This doesn't help the fan experience at all. And many people here thought or gave the impression that they thought, a new arena meant "bye-bye" JAR. No the truth is top programs have top notch facilities to play in and top notch facilities to practice in. If an arena is ever built, the JAR will be a practice facility and offices for the b-ball, volleyball, and Athletics department. This will be a very impressive player lounge for both squads.

Shut up Dave Oh, I see what you did here.

It is very sad. Too bad they have let all those people comment about it right where the article is. Those should be pulled down. Prayers to the family.

Ask the basketball team, its not that simple. I disagree. The basketball team fills a crappy arena to roughly 60-65% capacity by "winning." "Winning" being defined by a 64% winning percentage, where the team was 12-10 through 2/3 of the reason. If the football team won 7 games in a given season (58% winning percentage) @ InfoCision, it is pretty much a given that attendance would be around 15k. Virtually identical to the basketball team. No one should be able to point to the basketball team and say "LOOK...WE WON TONS OF GAMES AND ONLY DREW TO 60% CAPACITY...AKRON FANS WILL NEVER SHOW UP!!" That's plain stupid. The basketball team fills the arena to the appropriate level for it's performance, and facility. That's plain simple. You want to increase attendance? With something that's within the Program's control? Build off 2010-11. Don't take a step back, record-wise. Beat marquee opponents. Win an NCAA tourney game. Market Zeke. Long-term, and outside the Program's immediate control: Improve the facility. Wow you really took that the wrong way. First it was about "students" showing up, not just crowds. If students showed up in the number they should (or even to what shows up for most soccer games) Attendance would be 2000 before anyone else walked through the door. I never even alluded to the fact that "no one shows up" I simply stated that winning isn't all that matters to attendance. The basketball team is a championship caliber team, they have played in the MAC Tournament Final 5 years in a row now and students still don't show up. You're concept suggest that teams would have to win 100% of their games to get sell outs and that is lunacy. Teams have to be competetive to get the casual fan and have to win to get the bandwagon fan. But that wasn't the question. The question is, what does it take to get STUDENTS TO SHOW UP? If the football team was in the MAC Championship game 5 years in a row and played in the post season (bowl game) 4 of those 5 times there would be far more than 15 thousand showing up. It's not a knock on the basketball team, its a knock on the supposed student organization on campus whose purpose it is to support athletics and build a fan base.

Not sure what any of the past 7 comments have to do with our stadium being in the game.

Looks to me like he's going after plenty of guys from both sides (highly rated and off the radar). Offering 3-5 star guys early and often is a very good tactic as a lot of these guys often have a thing or two happen that might turn off a big school (injury, grades, poor performance on the field, etc.) and its better that you have been there the whole time than if you try to come in at the last minute. As coach of mine used to say "You have to be in it, to win it." I bet you thought Rossi wouldn't choose the Zips based off his rating and the other teams that offered him. Overall though, considering the way you bashed Ianello's last recruiting class it is interesting that you want him going after "people nobody else wanted."

City Series scandals and Zips recruiting
g-mann17 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I have as big of a chip on my shoulder about us getting no respect as anyone, but this is really a stretch. I doubt any City Series coaches go out of their way to discourage interest in UA. If we were worth our weight in feathers on the gridiron right now, we'd have a fair number of local three stars interested in us. I can tell you from experience that certain city series coaches push kids away from Akron. Some for good reasons (getting them away from potential bad elements that are already in their lives) and some for not so good reasons. Certain coaches at premier programs have pushed players away from Akron to make themselves look better. Its better to say I sent so&so to Michigan State even if he flunks out or never sees the field then it is to say they got them a scholarship at Akron. I see that slowly changing, one of the biggest coaches that was known for this now has an excellent relationship with the University. As far as Powers goes, he's a nice guy and cares about his kids. If anything its boosters from Buchtel that are filling these kids ears with "better chances" and promises. -
Take a look, Infocision finally represented in the new EA football game. Around the :50 mark EA Presentation Trailer

Really wouldn't change much from what I can tell. East - Akron, Buffalo, Can't, Miami, Ohio, Temple, UMass West - Ball State, BGSU, CMU, EMU, NIU, Toledo, WMU In a North South allignment it would likely be: North - NIU, WMU, CMU, EMU, Toledo, BGSU, Buffalo South - Akron, Can't, Miami, Ball State, Ohio, Temple, UMass So We would have Ball State and they would get Buffalo, Akron would then have its three rivals (Can't, Miami, and Ohio). If you look at the map, there isn't any other way to do a North South division.

Apparently that other 28% post on here.

Baseball is getting a new stadium, and does have better training facilities. There is a major baseball alumnus pushing for more investment. You might know him, has something to do with basketball now.

I remain baffled by this one...
g-mann17 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Can someone tell me anything controversial about the last play of that game? What happened that merited a protested outcome?! Why is it such a laudable attribute to simply accept defeat? Has society reached the point where basic sportsmanship is such a commendable act? K.e.n.t. got beat in a great game. No "phantom fouls" or "no-calls"...no clock operator negligence...time simply expired and K.e.n.t. didn't score enough points to win. End of story. Actually, as far as end-of-game play controversy goes, there was no story. Important notes for any idiot are listed below: 1.) The scuffle after the game wasn't a "play." 2.) Video of the Zips celebration as the clock expired showed a couple Zips players accidentally stepped on K.e.n.t. players that were laying on the ground. The Zips players temporarily stopped their celebration, and immediately apologized. As far as controversial plays go...those with "protestable" game outcomes...where would YOU rate the 2011 MAC Championship game's final play? On a scale of 1-10, "1" being completely devoid of controversy and "10" being an out-and-out criminal act, I rate it a "1." On your scale Cap...I would -5. -
Why? Why do we need even more "big men" on the roster? Why are there a bunch of threads urging Dambrot to do something that clearly doesn't need to be done at this time? Ooh, Ooh, I know. Cause having two or three is better than having one. We really need a "slow clap smiley".
