  1. OSU fans do feel disrespected if you call them Ohio. Try it once in a while. Second, UA is constantly used as a cheer. No one here has a problem with just Akron, none have a problem with just UA or U Akron. It is Akron U and AU that is disrespectful.
  2. Akron U is disrespectful because it diminishes the school. It throws it back as "Hilltop High" as previously mentioned, and it has never been the official name of the school. The marketing campaign really doesn't take that big a leap Moving UA to Au (not AU) as the symbol for gold. Additionally the campaign says that UA is the "new gold standard". This is a way of saying "forget bout AU, its UA". It's like you have a Ted in the office and everyone refers to him as Ted. Well his name is Tim, and you are disrespecting him by calling him Ted, but if you bring up Tim in coversation no-one knows who the H you are talking about. So what is the proper thing to do?
  3. Curious when you went there. Because the "Name" of the school went something this... Buchtel College Metropolitan University of Akron The University of Akron Akron U, came from people who were too lazy, too ignorant or just plain didn't give a poop. And the mentality where "Akron U" comes from, is what is offensive, the fact that people don't care enough to say the proper name.
  4. As of right now on Rivals we are 4th in total commits, but 1st in average (2.22).
  5. Don't remember that all. I remember winning the MAC the second year, with Luke Getsy at quarterback. I remember what should have been back to back bowl seasons, and I remember people still being negative about the team. Ianello took an abysmal team and did what he could with it. At least 50% of the people on the field against GW were not on the field when we played Miami and Buffalo. BTW. Many of the best LB's are 6'2 and under, the kid needs some weight (as do most of our LB's) but other than that he would be a perfect Middle because the QB would lose sight of him.
  6. Does that 5 count Pierce? Because Pierce didn't play, so that is 4 Glenville Kids --> 4 wins. Still 3 better then what we had last year.
  7. Biggest weakness - Fans
  8. All-MAC I am a little shocked that Thomas and Wagner got Zero respect. Other than that there isn't much that stood out from a players standpoint; but I would have expected some recognition for those two.
  9. So it looks like Ohio bested Temple again this year, and now controls their own fate with just Can't left on the schedule. Even assuming MU beats us tonight, Ohio already has a win over them making them 4-0 in MAC East Play. Anyway the point is, Temple (even though I would love the success the past 2 seasons) still hasn't gotten it done and is even more likely to see turmoil next season as there will be plenty of schools looking at Golden.
  10. We'll get out big, they will close and tie us, force us to OT and someone will miss an extra point, and we will lose on Millikin's next score. No, seriously, I expect everyone to have double digit points and we will be lookingat 110 - 50
  11. Blake Justice G Peebles, OH 6-3 180
  12. Cody Grice - RB - Akron Firestone gives verbal to Zips... Strong words on how Akron compares to other visits.
  13. We did. I suck at doing searches on here LOL.
  14. How about everybody?
  15. Waddell to Towson Figured some of you would want to know.
  16. "What were they thinking..." Um it's the 5th anniversary of the championship season and its a great way to spur on the team and remind everyone that supports the program where it is supposed be. NIU was supposed to be unstoppable that season, and we beat them twice. Edit. Oh, and it's a way to connect to the tradition of the program for a completely new staff. Hopefully we take a rolled up newspaper and put the Huskies in their place.
  17. Wow, what a bunch of crybabies over there. "We should never lost that MAC Championship in 2005. Boo Hoo" Um as I recall we beat them early in the season that year too. Also found it hilarious that people in Dekalb are talking about "losing to some school they never even heard of".
  18. And their budget also dwarfs any other sport. Unfortunately, it also dwarfs their revenue. Actually the reason the Athletic Department is never balanced or profitable, is because of the drain that is every other sport at the university. Through two games of crap attendance the football team has brought in more money then the soccer team could hope to during the entire year (well over half a million). The soccer budget is roughly 600-750 thousand a year. Which means they are still 100-250 thousand in the hole every year. Football always contributes to the bottom line. This really shouldn't even be a topic of discussion. Support all the teams and stop the douchey "which team makes more money, which one is better, who would you rather win more". It's pointless. Every team needs to win. I was extremely excited watching the game on TV, it felt great (not as good as actually being there) but the team and school looked great. Every team, every day, we are all Zips.
  19. My bad it's $200 this season. I mistook the "Season tickets as low as $90" as the Family Plan.
  20. I still ridicule it. The difference is, they are "selling" a value, not giving it away. They are basically charging GA price for Reserved seating, and throwing in parking. 1 game 4 tickets, 60 dollars. It's $90 for a family plan for the season. This is a far cry from what your suggestion was.
  21. I will be at Cedar Point Saturday with no smart phone (it drowned in my dogs water dish). So I look forward to seeing ESPN highlights of the upset when we get back to our room.
  22. GOZIPS.com 4 Lower Reserved Tickets, Parking Pass, $10 food voucher = $60 I think that is hard to complain about.
  23. GP1, sounds brilliant especially if you incorporate the civil engineering and construction management stuff. You should e-mail the Polymer Engineering Department. rpquirk@uakron.edu
  24. BUt "if" he gets there by recruiting "well", then our cupboard won't be bare as it is/was now! Great talent is useless if you can't coach them to a win. I don't want a "coach" who can bring in tons of talent but still find ways to lose games he shouldn't. I want a coach who can get his team to overachieve, to win even without top-notch talent, and if he can recruit well then that's a bonus. Being a winner is more important than being a recruiter. You don't have one without the other. There are no miracle coaches that can take a bunch of no talent hacks and make them win. No what happens is, there is talent there and after getting to know the talent the coach puts them in the right spots and then the winning starts. You guys fired Ianello after the spring game, he doesn't even know what he has available yet, and how it performs in game situations. The loss to Gardner Webb was because the defense got lazy, and the team lost momentum because of it. Had nothing to do with "coaching".
  25. That is true, but it takes time to get players from that market. When was Ianello supposed to turn things around? Hell he only has 4 of his own recruits in the first recruiting class. A "turn around" takes time, it doesn't happen over night.
