STOP THE AGONY!That worksI noticed the whole sign had been removed when I was going to class last night.
-
I can. If I ever invent a time machine I'm going to set it to 1994 and let you sit through that entire Zips season.I think Geneva Convention prevents that.
-
It's because buildings don't win games. There has been an arms race in the NCAA over the past few years. We were just part of the arms race and not operating in a vacuum.Getting back to the main point. 7-5 is a good MAC season. A senior QB would help right now but we all know how that went....Jacq was sent back to the mean streets of Mentor and we were left with our mess. Rodgers had been playing college football for three years now I think and he looks as if he will never be able to play. "Growers" beware, Rodgers isn't going to grow into anything. :horse: :horse: :horse: :horse: :horse: :horse:

Based on my response I would have stuck with Jacq (because that is what my response was). I do trust the coaches, the coaches basically said "Jacq is # 1, Rodgers is # 2, we'll use him to get him playing time, but sparingly." Rodgers is still a # 2, he has to play # 1 but at no point did the coaches say "Rodgers is the future of this team" the actually said by default that Nicely is the future of this team, hence the desire to redshirt. You hope to get through a season with Jacq and then have a contest in the spring next year for Rodgers and Nicely.Jacq f-d that up. I want Rodgers to be successful and win, because then my team wins, I'm happy, I hopefully don't have to listen to old guy and his fat wife behind me say "boy they sure aren't doing anything today, blah, blah, blah".But again, you say trust the coaches, well for 2 years and 2 games (26 games). They have said that a mediocre Jacq and a horrible CJ were better than him, that he hadn't stepped up to meet expectations. I pray he does.(on the Browns note, I was for Couch all the way, for Frye all the way, and for Quinn all the way, I pay attention to coaches and when Baltimore who had no QB what-so-ever decides that Anderson isn't good enough for their team, it kind of speaks volumes on the quality of the player.)

If you've ever been to Highland Square than you know it has been for a long time.

Skip, I would choose Jacq, unfortunately he isn't an option. I gave Rodgers the benefit of the doubt (still pray he improves everyday and everynight) but from watching him the past three years, he hasn't improved on the weak points that I and everyone else (coaches included) identified. Pocket presence and being too quick to run. (I chalk decisioning up to those two lacking) so yeah, I still say let's see what we get with him, but Nicely had better be getting some reps. Additionally it has been rumored here for a while that Matt hurt his shoulder (if true, it could only take one hit and then what)
-
You're the one that usually says it, but...How do you polish a turd?I suppose he will look at his great receivers that he created (both of them Hixon and Fitzgerald), I agree if he leaves the University of Akron he will have a job somewhere, but it won't be high on the proverbial totem pole.
-
No but I heard Coach Boals did run a camera or two.
-
Yep Ball State. Than he threw 3 against Can't and we won and then 3 more against Temple. The problem being most of those balls were off of a receiver's hands and into a defenders.Understand, I want Rodgers to succeed. I was rooting for him in both games. I was cheering as he rushed to the 1 yard line against Morgan State. The problem is, when I've watched him, he doesn't look like he has it.Now if I talked to him, I would never say that to his face. I would say "Matt, you have a heck of a lot athleticism and it's up to you to decide how to best use it; you're a roll out passer, make the coaches understand that you are not good in the pocket, and play to your strengths."
-
Yep Matt, you deserve to play on a team run by Mike Rasor where 4 interceptions in a game and 6 sacks is acceptable and 0 inteceptions and 5 sacks is "vast improvement"The kid deserves a shot at improving but face it, he has had 3 years, he should know the system, no it's up to ability. Right now he feels like Carlton Jackson, athletic, but makes bad decisions.
-
No, the NCAA said that because of field conditions the game would have to be played here...It was added in this years rules, it is our second "home field" each team has one, but most everyone's is actually near their University except us. Luck of the draw they said.
-
Let's not forget a grad student funny guy who also has year of eligibility left that is the QB's best friend. Hopefully the crusty old president doesn't ruin the whole thing for us by making the players take a super hard test.(Matt Rodgers did look an awful lot like that back up poindexter QB from that movie..."Blow the whistle! Blow the whistle!")

Well now it officially doesn't work anyway because all that is left is STA

Well then call me a fool g-mann. I'm ready for JD to be gone. Period. You have to be kidding about recruitment, as if there isn't already a ton of uncertainty surrounding this program as it spirals into the crapper. You think any potential signee, or hell, any kid in the program, can't see the writing on the wall? Some will leave when JD leaves, some will come when he leaves. Besides, are you happy with the recruits and the program we're seeing right now, with a couple possible exceptions? STZI've seen half the stuff you have written, and I have no problem calling you a fool. "I won't give this program my money if they keep putting this on the field."That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. That is a front runner mentality if I've ever seen it. Only winners deserve our attention and money. Hell if that is the way things should have been we should still be FCS, with major roads bi-secting our campus and stadium that looks like Greek ruins with not even a 1/100th of the prestige of them. Because that is what the school was, a giant loser. Am I happy with the recruits? Outside of Jacq yes. Stewart did something wrong but the motive was right. The rest of the players are quality players, to bash any of them is foolish. A coaching change now with no indicators of direction, no ability to interview, and basically saying "Screw this season that is only 1/3 over" is sheer stupidity. I think JD's time has come, he made some bold choices with Harris and Montgontmery and it isn't working out on offense (I thought we would resemble Miami ala Roethlisberger years and we get the same ole thing). It will be similar to Lee Owens, winning season the final year, but your contract was up and your body of work is not an indicator of you moving the program in the right direction. And what do you think it will do for the team? Improve it? Hardly, they don't have enough time to change schemes. It will just create more chaos in the program. Play out the year with JD, let those that want to leave, and hire a new coach that can talk the talent into staying.
-
Let me be the first: This is foolishness to think that opening the job up right now is going to change recruiting. Who are you going to hire in October? All the worthwhile candidates are otherwise engaged in winning games somewhere else. They're not going to be interviewing for anything before the end of the season anyhow.Go Zips!!Oh well silly ZW...Don't you know that the person who can change all of this isn't actively coaching right now anway...I got the shovels, let's go get our coach...
-
Anyone who thinks a college team firing a coach mid season is beneficial is complete fool.First there is a huge recruitment impact. With loss of recruits landed (this happens with any coaching change). Then there is lack of recruitment signing because of uncertainty of who the coach is going to be.JD is here until the end of the year (like it or not) beyond that it's up to the wins. (Though I still think he is going to have to be in the MAC Championship to save his job this year)*edit: remember it is the last year of his contract

I was there.Just over 3,000.*edt: should have prefaced that with, When I played at North we were lucky to have 700 people show up for a game against Kenmore.

Let's Hope Zeke Marshall Isn't a Football Fan

Have you graduated yet? If you have you should apply to be a featured comedian next year.Rodgers does not suck. He has no help from his receivers(see Bowser pulling a Braylon Edwards in the first half) or his o-line(see the 0.3 seconds he has after the snap before the pocket collapses). There is a reason he was second string behind Jac.Oh let me get this straight we lost the game because Bowser dropped one pass...no but we did not lose it because of poor play from Rodgers. If you think that surely you're delusional. Our defense was downright awful. But it does not help when one of the few times the coaches call to open up the taps, your top receiver drops a pass thrown right into his gut. Inexcusable.Second game in a row where the Time of Possession was 35 minutes for the opponent and 24 minutes for us. But yes let's blame the defense for playing almost a full quarter more than the offense. Face it, Rodgers is not a good a QB. I've said since his freshman year when Rasor started hyping him. The kid has no awareness in the pocket, he pulls the ball down too quickly, and that is why he gets sacked so often. As it stands right now, it's a much better call to run 1 of 6 running backs up the middle on first down, than it is to drop Rodgers back. That means we are destined to have a predictable offense.I really wish I didn't have to say it, I hope and pray he proves me wrong, but as of right now Rodgers is a taint. (He's not the reason we lost the game, not making any big offensive plays against the most explosive offense in the MAC is what lost it) but he is certainly not a quality QB at this point. -
Not that i want to deffend JD but Alleman transfered from Pitt with him and is not an Owens recruit. As too was Getsy, who I believe won us the MAC championship. Not to mention a few Juco's that were recruited that first year, oh and Hixon was a DB. I'm sorry, but everyone heading for the life rafts because we lost two games (one of which no one gave us a chance and the other against team we greatly under-rated) with our backup (albeit "I told you so" he isn't ready) QB and everyone thinks we can't win 6 of 8? We have Ohio, Buffalo, Syracuse, NIU, Can't, Temple, BGSU and Eastern Michigan, yet you guys think we have no shot?Get over yourselves. You know what I do want a winner, and we all deserve a winner, but blowing up the program isn't going to do any good. There is nothing wrong with the talent, there is something wrong with the motivation. We have two weeks to reset, let's just see what happens. If we finish 6-6 or better, I'm happy. If we finish 5-7 or worse, I'm bitter. But I'm still supporting my alma mater and the athletes that represent it. Anyone who doesn't isn't a real a fan anyway.Either way, we will have a new coaching staff next year

My letter of support for J.D. Brookhart

Agreed. There are times when I watch a drive and say "why are we not in a two back set right here?" The talent is there, everyone in the MAC knows it. It's time to step and utilize it Eh. Recruiting area talent just to recruit area talent doesn't work. Getting great area talent does draw. (But just having great talent draws). This is a more of "win and the place get's filled" deal. We need to win. Winning will always sell tickets. I say it's because people have to try and make flaw with everything. If we were lucky in 05, what was Buffalo last year? They didn't need the tie breakers but they sure needed a lot of OT and way more miraculous plays than we did. -

I'm a big fan of JT and have followed Akron for years. By little publicity do you mean no publicity? I have never read or heard of any such gifts to the school or football program. He is a true gentleman. He wants it that way. When the program has needed financial support in the past, he has come through. I've heard that one day when his playing career is over they may name something after him. The should do that Hall of Fame weekend five years after this season. They should, and I think he deserves a statue (immortalized) to show how much he meant to the program and University and to remind the players, recruits and fans that greatness can come from anywhere. -
What I saw from D'Orazio was impressive. Not so sure about the pick in the endzone over Ritossa but...The kid seems to be quite the athlete. But someone get him a couple Galley Boys or something (probably burned like 15,000 calories during that game) playing every side of the ball, (kicker, punter, DB, QB) heck I think he was running the camera for part of the postgame talk and I saw him leading a few cheers on the sidelines too.
