  1. The JAR was so full, people were sitting in the aisles. The fire marshal told them to stop selling tickets. It was "Mouse" McFadden vs Eric "Cricket" McLaughlin. What a great game. People complain about how weak our schedule is now. Take a look at this schedule. :rolleyes:1. 8,168 Cleveland State (ot) 12-9-86 W, 73-692. 7,131 Murray State 2-22-86 W, 76-573. 6,701 Middle Tenn. 2. Not necessarily wanting to refuel the ongoing scheduling issue, but I decided to take a peak at the RPI/SOS numbers, and also look at our first 9 games of the season. As far as how we've played so far, I don't see that it's far from what we should have expected. Even though I have to consider the Austin Peay game as somewhat of a semi-bad loss, especially since it was at home, the other two losses are no surprise. And we've beaten most of the "weaker" opponents by sizable margins, for the most part. I wish we were 7-2, but 6-3 is pretty close. So...how do we stand nationally for our efforts? I was somewhat surprised.RPI = 171SOS = 243Sandwiched right between powerhouses Jacksonville and South Carolina State....two teams with a COMBINED 4 wins between the two of them. I don't know about the rest of you, but we've pretty much done close to what we could have expected at this point, and we're looking at poor numbers like this?I'm sorry, but this scheduling is going to get us nowhere.

  3. MAC Hoops in 2009-10...blech.Over the course of time, the conference ebbs and flows. But it is hard to believe that only 8-10 years ago, the conference was putting out NBA 1st rounders?Daniels...Trent...Sczerbiak...Boykins...even guys like Brandon Hunter, Keith McCloud and Anthony Stacey were markedly better than just about anyone in the MAC right now.I think the Zips have held up their end of the bargain, and are an improved program from the early 2000's. But who else in the MAC can say they are better than they were 8 years ago? It is unreal how everyone's worse off.
You need to fix your link CK, it goes to an article about Syracuse football.
  4. Isn't it awesome owning your own business?
Sometimes, yes .. other times .. not so much.We need an applet where you can play music behind a post when someone is reading the post. This one needs the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" .. nice motivation speech. I'd have written the exact same thing 10 years ago. Might be interesting to revisit in 5, and then again in 10 years. Hope it's a prosperous 2010.Opportunity does flourish amid chaos.
    Go The University of Akron!
    And that too!Go Zips! B) B) B) B)
This song would make more sense for GP1.
  5. Just asking --If the Zips played an ACC schedule, do you think we would still have run the table? We played 2 ACC programs and couldn't score a regulation goal.Ok - end of my controversial observation. It does make you wonder what Caleb would need to do to win COTY? Was the COTY picked prior to the NCAA tourney?Lolla turned tail and ran to Louisville when he felt the Zips program couldn't overcome the NCAA's "non-BCS" soccer bias.Caleb decided to stay, and force the NCAA to respect the Zips.Caleb's omission proves there's a lot of work remaining to be done on the Zips road to respect. But his track record shows he's the guy to break those barriers. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time....I think Caleb's about 8% away from being a member of "The Clean Plate Club."
Are you channeling GP1 now, or what? :chair:
  6. That's why I always felt Huggy should be coaching in the NBA, because his style has no place in college sports.
Huggy was ahead of his time. He is exactly what college sports are and what they have always been. He had the balls to say what everyone else was thinking. It's about winning today. It was about winning in the 1990s. It was about winning in the 1950s. It always has been and always will be. Coaches are brought to schools to win. Alumni give money because the school is winning. Coaches are fired because they don't win. Athletic Directors are fired because their teams don't win. Alumni stop giving money because the team is not winning and are willing to turn their backs to bad behavior if the team is winning.I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it just is what it is.
You are so full if sh!t.Look at John Calipari. Or Rick Pitino. Those guys stand for all that is good in Division 1 athletics. With them, it is all about teaching kids. About education first, then athletics. About integrity and character. How long would Bobby Knight have lasted at Indiana if he won 15 games per season? FOREVER, I SAY!Winning has nothing to do with anything.
ROFLMAO ... !!!!Cap'n, surely you say that tongue-in-cheek. You just named two of the biggest cheats on collegesports. Continuing to ROFLMAO. Nearly brought tears to my eyes. If only they could keep theirJohnsons home.
I forget, was it Pitino or Calipari who coached Tiger? :P
  7. Well, this neutral fan didn't find it boring. I should say I started neutral and hoping for a great game but by the time my DVR kicked off (I missed OT) I was screaming at the TV. Apologies to VBB, but I thought that was a disgusting display of cynical hack job soccer. Virginia was slower to the ball and obviously less skillful almost to a man and compensated for that simply by fouling the attacker virtually every time they were beaten. (And 4-5-1 is no way to play ball.)But what really took the cake was Kyle Martino. What a f'g HOMER! I watched Cat Whitehill call 2 womens' games including the final for UNC and virtually the only reason you would know she was a Tarheel was the other announcer kept reminding everyone. Martino should go do something else. He stinks. At one point, when hack job Hunter Jumper (what a name for Wahoo, doesnt get any better than that, unless your birth certificate says Biff) got a well-deserved yellow, Martino actually said -- "Well he got there late and had no choice but to go at his feet." Whuuut? How about play it clean? Is that really the UVA mentality -- if you're beat you have no choice but to sweep the leg and take the yellow? I refuse to believe it on the evidence of one game, but I tell you that was not a "championship" display in my book.I was really disappointed to plug in here and learn that UVA had won. Akron was a far superior team on the evidence of that game.
Like I said during the game, #17 is a thug! :nutkick:
  8. Bring back Balki Bartokomous! Where'd he go anyway?
At last report, the ZipsNation.Org search party is still on its mission started to Put-in-Bay a few years ago in search of DA ZIPMAN!You'll have to wait to find Balki .. priorties.
DA ZIPMAN! I'm sure a few pearls of wisdom from him would make my day! :horse:
  9. Huge disappointment. I'm officially checking out on my alma mater. Cancel my season tickets and you will no longer see me posting on ZipsNation. We've been given everthing to go big time and once again we go small time on our head coach. I'm done. Look forward to six more seasons of mediocrity until the school can afford to fire this guy and start the process all over again. I'm done. I guess I'll just pick a BCS school that I like and go with them. It's a shame Tom when you can't even keep the guys who donned the GOD DAMN UNIFORM with the stupidity you display.
Why don't you tell us how you really feel ITZ!
  10. Someone in the know told me that UA and the City of Akron are in discussions about renovating the Knight Center into a real arena. Aren't the University and the city are already partners in this project? Most of the infrastructure and other items needed(Parking) are already there. Is this just another crazy rumor or could an arena at that location make sense?http://www.johnsknightcenter.org/pdfs/uppe...0capacities.pdfhttp://www.johnsknightcenter.org/DefaultJSK.aspxhttp://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source...=12&iwloc=A

  11. To foster a "take no prisoners" attitude in college football, it's only logical to turn to prisoners -- prison league football players. The best coach for recruiting the best players would obviously be a tough warden. A football coach's salary would represent a huge increase for a warden, so the first college to do this could have it's pick of the best. UA could be a leader in this area.A version of shock probation could be enacted whereby outstanding football-playing inmates would be released to become UA student athletes, with UA taking responsibility for their rehabilitation. These players wouldn't even need much game coaching. Have the former warden gather them together in a room before each game and tell them: Just do it ..... and don't get caught. They would instinctively know what to do to beat any team of college pansies senseless, and how to get away with it.A side benefit would be the mixing of prison and college cultures, which would help prepare innocent suburban nerds for the real dog-eat-dog world they're going to have to face when they graduate. This is an area where UA is currently sorely lacking.
It works in the SEC and it worked in The Longest Yard.

Amazing. This kid is too stupid to go to college. Good luck in I-AA.

I agree. It makes no sense, but who says a high school kid with a sub-par intellect has to make sense? I have a feeling the Zips should take a pass on this kid. Something doesn't seem right.
By your logic, this kid is a perfect recruit.
  12. I get what the ideal is, but we don't have that yet. What's the fall back plan-- SVSM? Wouldn't you rather have the fall back be a beautiful brand new stadium with the latest turf tech rather than a high school (or worse, losing the game altogether)? Just askin...
They did secure an alternate site (115 x 70 with field turf) in the event that Lee Jackson was unplayable for the tournament. Thankfully it looks as though we're going to make it through all three games with no weather/field issues.
I heard it was here;http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe...=16&iwloc=AThey have a nice new field, just zoom out and look to the upper right of the campus.
