When I was looking in the mirror this morning while shaving, I asked him and he said it was OK with him!Does yours know about you wasting time on the Internet? Oh, wait ... -
I was just joking about them covering their bet in Vegas. I would just like to see some more consistent calls.I am not trying to say that human emotion doesnt play a role in some refs calls sometimes or there is only one Tim Donaghy out there, but for most of these guys at this level this is a job/career. The idea that refs are jeopardizing their ability to be assigned and move up to bigger better paying games in order to stick it to a player/coach/team would be counter productive to the whole process. I myself am a referee and have been to the camps and trainings for officials at the collegiate level, it takes a lot of hard work, effort, sacrifice, and years to get to the division 1 level. I can honestly say that I think it is a bit comical for people to think that officials are "cheating". I would agree with a few previous posts that allow for bad calls and an adjustment to athleticism. Simple facts of the game, all officials blow calls. Officials call what they think they saw and if you are not used to seeing an athletic 7 footer it could happen, definetly not an excuse, a bad call is what it is, simply agreeing with a previous explanation. -
Does your boss know your drinking on the job?
A lot of beers between March of '89 and March of '10. Feel free to correct post inaccuracies at any time.
Fixed again.
Fixed.
We played Ohio State in the NIT in 1989.It was a very tight game. OSU had Treg Lee, Chris Jent and I believe Jay Burson? The Zips Eric McLaughlin blew out his knee late after being thrown under the scorers table by an opposing player, and we couldn't recover.Instead of OSU, we would stand a very good chance of playing Dayton or Cincinnati should we end up in the the 2010 NIT.If your point is only that you'd rather be in the NCAA tourney than the NIT...or that participating in the NCAA tourney is more exciting than the NIT...why bother posting it? Who wouldn't rather be in the NCAA over the NIT? No one.On the NIT: ...but this isn't like playing Michigan State and Kansas here. It isn't even like playing Ohio StateNow back to the beer...

Fixed again. That was the way it looked to me also. Even after loosing the Cricket, Anthony Buford almost singlehandedly willed the Zips to a win over the suckeyes. Buford outplayed Burson in a big way. That was also Huggins last game as the coach.

Bosley had a real knack for drawing fouls. He wasn't very tall, but he was fearless inside around the basket. He really knew how to use the backboard and all the angles to avoid getting his shot blocked. He may have been an a$$, but he was our guy so it didn't matter!
I always thought that was the definition of Jamie Bosley. Eh?Singletary's name is synonomous with foul.He ranks 28th in the country in fouls committed per game (3.462).He ranks 91st in the country in fouls drawn per 40 minutes (6.2).Fortunately, the fouls drawn is somewhat offset by a lower than average free throw percentage for a guard (62.9%).Singletary has a lot in common with running back Don Nottingham, the original Human Bowling Ball in football. He runs over people just like Nottingham did at Can't and in the NFL.Sometimes MAC refs call the foul on Singletary and sometimes on the players he's running over. But there's always a foul aroma around Singletary. -

I think that Peggy Elliot would have gladly taken UA athletics back to D2 if she could have.

What color would you like your hair to be after we win?Be obnoxious on Friday night, Zips fans. Be very obnoxious. And bring your confetti. -
Even the TV announcers couldn't stop themselves from commenting on how uneven the officiating was. The traveling call with .8 seconds left was a joke. Maybe the refs needed to cover their bet in Vegas.
My favourite call when D-rob was fouled shooting 3. The refs call 3 free throws. D-rob shoots the first 2 and then the refs decided to review the play on TV to find out if it was 2 or 3Once again we draw the wonderful Jim Ferrari on the officiating crew. I'll say it again, he is one of the two poorest refs in the conference and seems to love blowing the whistle against the Zips. I do not know how it looked on TV but from courtside it appeared to be a very biased crew. How we got this clown for two games in a row is beyond me.Aren't you supposed to do that before the first 2 free throws???

The Zips have won their last 7 MAC games in a row. He didn't say ROAD games. Mon, Feb 01 Eastern Michigan * - Akron, Ohio 7 p.m. 59 - 62 (L) Wed, Feb 03 Northern Illinois * - Akron, Ohio 7 p.m. 90 - 76 (W) Sat, Feb 06 Ball State * - at Muncie, Ind. Noon 75 - 70 (W) OT Tue, Feb 09 Central Michigan * - at Mt. Pleasant, Mich. 7 p.m. 56 - 52 (W) Sun, Feb 14 Ohio * - Akron, Ohio 2 p.m. 91 - 88 (W) 2OT Wed, Feb 17 Miami (Ohio) * - at Oxford, Ohio 7 p.m. 61 - 56 (W) Wed, Feb 24 Buffalo * - Akron, Ohio 7 p.m. 77 - 67 (W) Sat, Feb 27 Bowling Green * - at Bowling Green, Ohio 2:30 p.m. 74 - 68 (W)
thats pretty impressive, except that we havent even won 7 mac road games. infact we are 6-2 on the road in the mac and have won 5 mac road games in a rowWhat a difference from last year when the Zips had lost 2 of their last 5 conference games going into the season finale at Can't, where they lost their 3rd conference game of the final 6 in the regular season as well as their last chance for a bye in the MAC tournament. This year the Zips have won 7 MAC games in a row going into the season finale against Can't at the JAR, the bye is clinched and it's all about whipping the team that, like it or not, has been the dominant power in the MAC over the past decade. If the players and fans aren't up for this one, we're all brain dead. -
I think they still have one more season at Anderson.Great showing by Akron fans. We were louder than the entire BG contingent. Their attendance was terrible for senior night and the last game in that Memorial Hall clone before opening up the new arena.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroh_CenterStroh Center is a 5,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Bowling Green, Ohio that is currently in the planning stages. It is scheduled to start construction in Fall 2009 and be completed in 2012. -
You driving? Pick me up at I-71 and the Turnpike. It's common to approach BG from the north on I-75 and exit at #181, which is Wooster St.Just sayin.Go Zips!B)

It was on TV. I remember watching. I doubt there are any copies out there. The VCR had just been introduced the year before, most people did not have one.I did, they do not have a copy of the game, I wonder if it was ever televised?

Sounds like he should fit in here with no problems.Ignore him True Blue, he fights with people who root for the same team he does. From reading all of his posts he is one of those guys that even though he is 100% wrong he will argue cause he believes in his own mind that he is 100% right! -
From what I've read, anything less than perfection is not acceptable to certain ZN members!
Maybe it's just early, but I'm not sure I understand this. What you're really saying is that if the Zips just won every game, the selection committee would have a hard time passing them up?Zips now up to a 93 RPI rank, although K ent has moved up to an RPI rank of 49 as per CBS Sports Akron Zips RPI Breakdown.Although I am in favor of the Zips challenging themselves in the OOC some more than has been the norm, I really don't think this is even a conversation if Akron takes care of Austin Peay and Eastern Michicant like they were supposed to, AND if they could have swept k ent (or Buffalo) and got a W against Rhode Island and VCU. Assuming they can get a W at Anderson, that would have put them at 28-3 with losses to only N.C. State, Texas A &M, and either K ent or Buffalo... IF this were the case and this team at least makes it to the MAC championship game I think the NCAA selection committee would have a hell of a time keeping a 30-4 team out that has an RPI ranking (and I'm merely speculating) somewhere in the 50's or maybe 40's.In summation: Cut out the bottom feeder schools from the OOC and replace them with "upper MAC level schools" and beat all of your conference opponents (which the Zips do for the most part already) and they will be right there on the bubble. And if they get that marquee win against some bottom of the top 25 team at the time, or get that good bracket buster win (which is what the BB is supposed to be for) then an at large is not out of the question, nor is a top 25 ranking. Hell, K ent was able to do it in the 07-08 season (yes they played #1 UNC) but the rest of that schedule is not mind bogglingly difficult. Not to sound treasonous, but I think they've done an excellent job with their OOC scheduling for quite a few years. If they have a good team and get the wins it puts them right in the middle of the Tourney conversation. And if they don't have a great team that year, or have a lot of underclassmen (and yes, this is where the JUCO conversation comes into play), they aren't going to get murdered in the way that the Redhawks would with their balls to the wall OOC schedule. The Zips schedule doesn't have to change all that much really.. It's close, but could just use a little bit of an injection. Really the key is winning the games you're supposed to win and just continuing on the path in the conference that they have been on. Get rid of the garbage bottom feeder teams and this team is a perennial Tourney team. Of course, this is merely one fan's opinion. Coach Dambrot knows what vision he has for this team and has a much more comprehensive understanding of how to get this team to where it needs to go, as opposed to some crummy fan(s) on an internet message board.Go Zips! I'm just here to enjoy this crazy roller coaster ride! -
Bring back Greg Rockich, he was like a good luck charm for Huggins.

+1I would hope that now there is no pressure to have to win in order to get a bye, we should be loose as goose. Just go out and have fun. Its a lot more fun to win than to lose.Play to win. -
I think Ronnie would see more PT if his defense improved. He was late getting back several times last night if I remember correctly, with one resulting in Zekes 4th foul. I really like what he brings to the offensive end. His ability to penetrate is a real pluse.

I think students like soccer better because its much easier to smuggle booze into a soccer game than into the JAR!

I found this while waiting for the game tonite.http://www.jjhuddle.com/blog/post-detail.php?p=4187
The athletic, lefty wing scored 12-straight points in the fourth quarter on a series of runners, jumpers, and free-throws. He ended the stanza with 15 of his team’s 18 fourth quarter points to help the Red Devils (13-3) score a 70-67 comeback victory.-Monteroso is averaging 21 points per game through 16 contests.-Dunking a basketball in a game isn’t a big deal especially in some areas of the state, but when a freshman guard is throwing it down in game situations that isn’t too bad. Monteroso has 10 dunks on the season and they haven’t all been on fast-breaks as some have taken place in traffic. -
What about Green? Where does he fit in? I don't know that I would call J. Conyers an outside shooter, more of a slasher and offensive rebounder.John Enger better have an outside shot as the Zips have him penciled in at the three spot.Josh Egner is the coming Nate Linhart/Jimmy Conyers replacement and will start as a Freshman. -
Who says white men can't jump? When Jackson came out on the floor for warmups, there were two big guys. One guy was a clean cut and uninspiring physical specimen, the other was sporting a Mohawk and was bouncing all over the place. After the game started, one was soaring above the rim and playing very physical around the rim. The other powered the ball up against a bunch of short white guys. How about a couple of Lebron like rejections from behind, where the shooter looked around and thought where in the heck did that guy come from? Want to guess which one was the Zips recruit? The guy with the mohawk and the attitude.
The best athlete on the floor this evening was Josh Egner by far. This guy has got serious hops. He threw down a breakaway dunk that had the whole backboard standard shaking for a few seconds. The Jackson fans seated near us said he seemed a little subdued and we should have seem him last weekend against Hoover! He did not show much of an outside shot tonight, but I don't think that will be a big part of game with the Zips. To my eye, Egner has way more upside than Henniger. Mark Henniger may be getting all the press on Jacksons team this season, but I wasn't that impressed. The whole Jackson offense is designed to get the ball down low to the center, which was played by Henniger most of the game. Quite a few Zips fans have been complaining about the lack of passion displayed by this years team, Egner oozes passion. I look forward to seeing him in blue and gold for four years.

He plays for Scott Co. highschool. Here is an article about the Kentucky State tournament. Euton is mentioned.http://www.kentucky.com/2010/02/20/1149982...tournament.htmlI've been checking Lexington Herald Leader paper, can't find much about D. Euton. Anybody got any stats on him? -
Thanks for the help Doc.Ease up Rugby, "g" and the "n" are pretty close on the keyboard. Seems like a harmless mistake. I bet Josh is tough and can take it. I fixed it just in case, I would hate to see all the coaching staff's hard recruiting work go to waste.I will give a report after the game. I don't think Green will give Jackson much of a game, but I'm sure it will be entertaining.
