  1. The only thing that concerns me a little bit right now is whether all of these close wins might be masking some problems for us. I'm not sure what those problems would be, but personally I felt like the only one of the last 4 that should have been close was Miami. Maybe you can argue Ohio or, based on the way they had been playing, Ball State, but I still feel like we should have been the superior team to those guys. I felt like we should have had at least 2 blowouts over these last four. Maybe I just got a bit pampered by some of our earlier results. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing us win tight games, but you have to admit that any regression from this team would mean that we would be losing these close games. Not a lot of margin for error.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pessimism
Pessimism, from the Latin pessimus (worst), is a state of mind which negatively colors the perception of life, especially with regard to future events. Value judgments may vary dramatically between individuals, even when judgments of fact are undisputed. The most common example of this phenomenon is the "Is the glass half empty or half full?" situation. The degree in which situations like these are evaluated as something good or something bad can be described in terms of one's optimism or pessimism respectively. Throughout history, the pessimistic disposition has had effects on all major areas of thinking
  2. Why would anyone be excited about a home and home with Marshall? They are a shell of the program that they were in the MAC and nobody really came out to watch those games. I just dont get it.
15,641 saw game go down to the last minute in 200029,621 saw Frye score 17 points in the fourth quarter to beat the Herd by 3Former rivals.Leftwich being carried down the field.Their fans travel well.I always had fun at Marshall games...and love to hate them.
    +1
  3. I wasn't in attendance at Zips Live, but I did get to ask Steve French a few questions during his live TV show on channel 23. 1.(Q) How can the Zips have 3 incoming freshmen when we only have 2 seniors on this years team? (A) One of the existing scholarship players is going to graduate early or transfer. When pressed as to who this might be, he said it wouldn't be Bardo(he has graduated) and that D Roberts will definitely be back for another season. So that leaves Sweich and Sullivan as the likely candidates to leave the team.2.(Q)When do you think the "Light will go on" for Zeke Marshall? (A)Right now its blinking. If not for Zeke, we probably don't win at BSU and CMU. Offensively he is still too timid but he is clearly altering the game at the defensive end of the floor.3.(Q) Why is KD so enamored with Steve McNeese? (A) 31 turnovers in 26 games as the primary ball handler. The Zips run over 50 different sets on offense and Steve does the best job of putting us in a position to win. All the dribbling at the half court area is a coaching decision.Steve spends more time with the team than anyone on this message board, so I take what he has to say is as near to the facts as possible. :)

  4. Jackson High School plays at Green High on Tuesday the 23rd. I will be attending this game(my daughter is a Green cheerleader) and would love to see some of the ZN faithful help me cheer for Josh. I have to be real careful about not cheering for Jackson, but I can still cheer for Josh. I will buy tickets for the first 5 ZN members who send me a PM. The Game starts at 7:30.

  5. My only question is, do the refs ever take a look at the clock at any time in the game? That was the second game, that i noticed, where the clock was stopped and they continued to play.
Its my understanding that the clock is now controlled by on of the refs on the floor, not by someone on the scorers table.
  6. While i dont think KD's seat is even the least bit warm...it should be. We were lucky last year, and with even better talent coming in each year it seems like we still haven't been going anywhere. I'm sick of losing EVERY big game.Somebody needs to let him know that his job isn't secure by just winning 20 games against 19 crappy opponents.
I think you should run out onto the floor the next home game so you can put KD in his place. :nutkick: I'm sure once you let him know he's on the "Hot Seat", the Zips will win out the rest of the season. :thumb:
  7. wheres the unicycle plate lady or the frisbee catching dog or the bud light daredevils or duo designs or rubber boy or bucket boyz or wing/burrito eating contests or the flying blimp we used to have or the t-shirt gun or the pregame fireworks? I just mean why did we go so cheap this year?? Can't has tickets for 5bucks, hot dogs for a buck, AND halftime entertainment as does ball state, buffalo, miami, western mich, etc.............
Not that I have a problem with cool halftime routines (the panda plate lady was awesome), but who comes to a game to see the halftime entertainment? Why pay for something if it's not going to get people in the seats?
Have you ever been to a Cavs game? Even though they have the greatest player in the NBA, they also have non-stop entertainment action going on before, during and after the game. It really does add something to the overall experience. If the Zips are ever going to draw the casual fan, they need more than just basketball.
  8. I liked it too. But I hope they don't do it during a TV time out again. There's only so much uninterrupted clapping one can muster. Per my son - "This is the longest cheer ever."
Halftime? Anything would be an improvement over what we've seen so far. I don't think I can take another dance group or little dribbler"s team at halftime this season. :( Where's the Red Panda plate stacking lady? :D
  9. SLEEPWALKING????? I wouldn't call it that good! Looked like a Hipsher coached team, but an ugly win is as good as a beautiful win!
In the standings but not at the bank.I think Saturday's game scared away a few hundred people from ever attending another Zips basketball game.
I would guess that most of the reason for the bigger crowd on Saturday was due to the Hall of Fame inductions. :screwks:
  10. ..... Gonzaga is above and beyond Akron. They beat us by 13 last year and I felt is was not that close. Akron never held a majority lead in the game and could not compete with Gonzaga's length. .....
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "majority lead," but the play-by-play of the Zips-Zags game (link below) shows that the Zips were never more than 4 points behind until 8:15 was left in the game. The Zips led the Zags from 6:40 remaining in the first half to 13:15 remaining in the second half, or 13:25, and a couple of times after that, as well.In the 10 minutes between 16:54 remaining in the first half and 6:40 remaining in the first half, the Zips pulled ahead of the Zags 6 different times.Only in the last 9 minutes of the game did the Zags clearly outplay the Zips. For the other 31 minutes, the Zips were either leading, tied, or within 4 points.Zips-Zags Play-By-Play
So in all of those stats do you see a major lead for Akron. I do not. A lead by 4 points is clearly not insurmountable. You can tell yourself whatever you like but gonzaga was never in clear danger of losing that game. Gonzaga played almost everyone on their bench while Akron was in their normal rotation the whole game. As it looked to me was that Mark Few was conserving as much as he could knowing that Gonzaga was going to play more games. Keep thinking that Akron is at Gonzaga's level, and that is why Akron is laughed at outside this ring of nonsense.
Dave and I were actually at the Rose Garden that afternoon for the Gonzaga game. Standing in line at the concession stand during halftime, I assure you that the Zags fans were quite worried about the outcome of the game. No one was laughing at the Zips. :nutkick::champs:
Well me, my dad, and Andy were there, and Mark Few was not worried. Tell Dave that for me.
So you saw Mark few laughing at the Zips? Why do you feel it's neccesary to tear down the Basketball program?

  12. Euton is an interesting case. He developed early, and people thought he'd keep growing both physically and in skills. I think that's how he ended up on the radar of Kentucky, Florida and other majors. But he stopped at 6-8 instead of growing to 7-0, so he couldn't be the big center most college teams covet, and never really had the dazzling athleticism of most superstar forwards. That's when the big programs lost interest. What he appears to have is a combination of decent size, strong fundamentals and a desire to play above his pure athletic abilities. That's a really good combination. I have a feeling that he will become a major contributor in the Zips program -- if we're lucky, perhaps a more talented version of Nate Linhart with even better shooting and rebounding skills, but similar desire. You never really know for sure how these things will work out. But from all I've read about Euton, I'm optimistic that he will be an excellent fit with the Zips.
Not that what you wrote here is rocket science for those that understand Division I basketball...but DAMN that was well said and well written!!! My guess is I would be hard pressed to find a better quick analysis anywhere.
A little inside info here, in another life, Dave in Green was a journalist! Then he spent 30 years in corporate "Communications". He better know how to put more than 2 words together at one time!
  13. As was posted, there are still 4 more dates to fill and I argue that Miami (FL) IS a big time team on schedule. 2 of the 4 being blockbuster games which we have no control over. Maybe its not a schedule that will challenge Gonzaga but removing the Malones and St Francis' is making progress in my opinion. Maybe with Jeff Boals help we can get OSU on schedule one of these years and be one of their 22 home games!! Id like to see Shaka Smart and KD get together and renew the VCU series.
    Fixed it for ya!
