  1. It was quite a night for Egner. Everything Dave says is true. St Johns was determined to take Henniger out of the game, so it was up to Egner to keep Jackson in the game. He did a spectacular job. He was the emotional leader of his team tonight and they fed off his energy. He hit mid-range jumpers, twisting drives thru the paint for layups, 3-pt shots and all his free throws. He had two monster throw downs. He dove for every loose ball, acted like every rebound was his and generally swatted away everything he could reach. Very impressive.

  2. Another good Euton feature:

Euton signed with Akron in November and has averaged 15.1 points and 9.4 rebounds a game this season. He's shooting 40.7 percent from three-point range.

“I've never seen a kid change his whole body and change his whole game,” Hicks said. “He has gotten where he can score off the dribble, score posting up inside. He's just made himself so much a better player. It's a night-and-day difference.”

After reading that, I now understand how he has over 3000pts and 1500 rebounds. He started playing varsity as a 7th grader? Kentucky has a strange system.

  3. In keeping with the small, but growing anti-Dambrot sentiment around here these days...

Where the hell is KD on this stuff? Doesn't he know that you need to actually sleep with the kids mom if you want to land top talent like this? Isn't he keeping up with the latest trends in recruiting? How are we ever going to keep up with the rest of the MAC if he isn't going to go to these lengths to bring in some good talent? We need to fire him and hire someone who is a below average coach but has a son who is a five-star recruit.

We already tried that once, it didn't work out so good.:D

  4. Let me preface this by saying I had a great time at the game. I agree that OU's cheering was louder than we were, but they also seemed to have three times the number in their student section.

For whatever the reason, I think we have to do a better job getting organized for our games at the Q. We need to OWN that place! I'm afraid that for too many Akron fans, the idea of coming up to Cleveland is like driving to some far away, distant place. Those holdouts from the Hipsher era need to get hold of a map with I-77 lol.

Okay, here's one solution I think that might help. Next year, we absolutely NEED to have a bar/restaurant sponsoring the Akron fans. K.e.n.t. State usually has Flannery's on E. 4th. (And for that, I boycott them). But we need a place to call our own, and it needs to be ground zero where we can all meet up and get psyched for the game. We need to help provide an atmosphere that makes the casual fan desperately want to be a part of the action.

Again, the championship game didn't go our way. It was exciting, a terrific game. I met a lot of great fans from both sides. The media coverage was excellent...but we Zip fans just aren't quite there yet when it comes to bringing our numbers in full strength. We need to encourage more of our numbers to make the trip north and just have fun with this!

    Already done.

  5. Jackson wins again. Egner makes key plays to win game.http://www.cantonrep.com/carousel/x1336914...-district-title

But Hoover missed its final six shots, including Evans’ desperation heave at the buzzer. Seconds before, Josh Egner’s block on a Cory Veldhuizen 3-point attempt basically sealed the remarkable defensive effort and punched Jackson’s regional ticket — the program’s first in nine years.
Hoover ran a pick-and-pop with Evans and Veldhuizen on the right wing, hoping to get Veldhuizen loose after setting the screen. But Egner was right there.“I saw him going to pump fake, so I was able to stay down,” he said. “I knew he had to take the second one, and I was able to get it.”
Egner finished with 16 points, five rebounds and three blocked shots.
    http://www.cantonrep.com/stark/jackson/x99...mpionship-hopes
And Josh Egner, who measures at 6-6 but plays closer to 7 feet, jumped out of the gym and swatted the dream killer.
Before Egner’s block saved Jackson’s 55-52 victory, he swatted a layup by a driving Evans. It was Hoover’s best — Evans attacking the basket — against Jackson’s best — Egner protecting the basket.
  6. Heres an update on Green. It may be that he will be the small forward we are looking for next season. :bow:http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sport...mp.html?sid=101

While Dublin Coffman senior forward Michael Green was accepting congratulatory handshakes for his 30-point performance yesterday that sent him over 1,000 in his career, coach Jamey Collins added a point of his own."Sure, Michael had a great game, but his willingness to take charges was just as important to the outcome of the game as all the shots he made," Collins said.
Green, a 6-foot-6 Akron recruit, was matched up against 6-8 West Virginia recruit Elijah Macon and got the better of the sophomore, who missed large chunks of the game and was tentative when he did play
Green went 10 of 15 from the field with four three-pointers and also grabbed seven rebounds for the Shamrocks (20-3), who snapped a string of four straight losses in district title games.
Dublin Coffman's victory over Marion-Franklin surprised some of my colleagues on press row who watched both teams play the previous week, but not me. It's all about matchups, and I suspected that Dublin Coffman was ecstatic about getting into an up-tempo game with Marion-Franklin. I watched Coffman lose twice to Upper Arlington, which simply sucked the Shamrocks into its pace. Man for man, Coffman's athletic makeup is as impressive as any team's. The Shamrocks did a great job getting their shooters open against Marion-Franklin, which was hamstrung and of its element after losing 6-8 center Elijah Macon and others to injury or foul trouble.
  7. FYI. The discussion about the evil moderators and our fascist conspiracy to suppress counter opinions has been split off and moved to the Board Comments Forum. It's not about hoops .. so it's not in the hoops forum.Go Zips!
Thanks ZW. We had a great season. It was a well played game by both teams. One had to loose, its a shame it was the Zips.
  8. David Kool goes off on Akron for THIRTY-NINE points. Not one Zip could or did guard him.Ohio has D.J. Cooper (Freshman Player of the Year) and Armon Bassett. Guess what? These are two of the best guards in the Conference and they are playing for the hottest teamin the tournament. Unless the Zips grow some nads and hops Ohio will be dancing tomorrownight.Screw all you fracking Pollyannas. I am fed up with the butt head fans and poor play from the team.It is time to grow some balls and play like men. What a rotten, poorly played game. They shouldbe ashamed. The next fan who tells me to shut up is going to get their lame ass kicked.
What does your friend Mr. McKnight feel about you calling out his sons? You really should get some treatment for your issues, it can't be good for your health. :mad_flame:
  9. In the second half of the game, Kool would drive towards the basket and lower his shoulder into the defender to either get a foul called or to create space for his shot. If the refs let that happen, the Zips will be in for a long night.

  10. Pretty prescient for the folks at the top of this thread.
I agree. Props to xu9697 & mes102. I watched two Ken+ games this year and couldn't see how they weren't going to be the finals. That Ken+ team I watched last night was not the same team as the team I watched before. They were flat.
I think they got mixed up about the game last friday. They thought that game was the one that mattered.
  11. You know after our loss to Can't last week I had to walk in front of their small crowd at listen to them talk so much crap to all of us. I would LOVE to see those idiots right now! I bet they were making fun of us because we went to OT with EMU, but hey at least we won...
Of course Zips fans are glad K.e.n.t was upset, how else do you think Akron is going to win the tournament? You won it last year and you'll probably win it this year but you'll never get it going through us.I was in that section talking all that trash, I'd probably do it again. We'll enjoy the NIT...just remember, only one of us knows for certain our team is going to a post season bracket at this point. ;) Let's Go F.lashes, 2-0 this season and regular season :champs:
Nice try at putting a shine on a turd flush.:chair:
  12. Probably not much of a chance but i have a buddy that really needs a ticket. Anyone have an extra or two? Doesn't matter where at, he just wants in. He was sick all week, couldnt get up to campus to get his ticket; procrastinated and didnt give someone his ID to get one for him.Let me know on
Just go to the game. There is always someone with an extra hanging out front.
You really think there's a chance? I haven't gone in the front entrance in a few years as students have to go in the north west door so i dont ever see if scalpers or anything are out there.
The UA cops have been clamping down on scalpers this season. You might get lucky.
  13. Yo DiG,You got to rep the new hometown my man! Enough with the Polar Bears. How did our Bulldogs look? As a former freshman benchwarmer for the Orange and Black, I long for the olden days when Winter was a break from football, and a chance to beat Woodridge (twice even) to prevent having to play Canton McKinley in the opening round of the tournament. :P
Don't let Dave mislead you, the Bulldogs are on a roll. :D:bow:http://www.ohio.com/sports/high_school/86504652.html
COPLEY TWP.: The boys basketball teams at Green and East play contrasting styles, yet both were effective Thursday night in Division I sectional finals at Copley High School.Green defeated Barberton 72-52 in the second game, mainly by using a half-court offense, and East beat Nordonia 70-36 in the first game by deploying an up-tempo offense and disruptive defense.Green (14-8) and East (15-6) advance to play each other in a district semifinal game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Copley.

  14. Any sell outs possible this year? haha maybe just the Indiana and Kentucky games!...I think the closest we get is just over 20000 vs syracuse and GW we'll hear crikets, probably no better than that temple attendance last year
Indiana doesn't sell out when OSU comes to town, and if they do it is b/c 1/2 are OSU fans.I expect a nice crowd for the Syracuse and Northern Illinois games. Anything else will be tough. For the GW game, they should promote perhaps a 50/50 raffle and/or a combination of that and some $$$ to charity. Something big will have to be done there to get attendance up. Of course, if they beat Syracuse, GW game might not be too bad. STUDENTS, STUDENTS, STUDENTS will be the key for those first couple games.
Ergo, the GW game might not be too bad. I guaranty those Orangemen are going to be in for a world of hurt. And I will be there to join in the revelry that will usher in a new era of winning ZIPS football! Man, I can't wait.
There would be nothing sweeter than starting off the season, and the RI regime, by winning the "rubber game of the match" against Syracuse. It sure beats breaking in a new staff against Salem-Tokyo (as they are known in the present) or the Hurons (as they were known in the past). 25 point bonus to whomever correctly names Dennison's 1st game opponent (road game) and his first home opponent. AT Delaware , Butler-home 50 point bonus for the same info for Larsen. At Wittenberg , Denison- HomeOn September 4. the campus atmosophere will be fantastic! Allow me to buy you one, dreal!:CK_brew: Go Zips!!!
