My understanding is the game at the JAR is set for this season. Z.I.P. I'm sure that Pitt fans will have a hard time understanding why the game is at Akron.
-
My sources are telling me that we are in negotiations with a major program for a home and away game to start this season with the Zips being the home team. I'm crossing my fingers on this one. All that remains are the financial details. I can also report that everyone is in good physical and academic shape heading into fall semester. That includes Conyers and Wood.

There was more good news today with the departure of J. Crutchfield as the publisher of the ABJ. Hopefully the new ownership will put things back in shape at the ABJ. If they write one more op-ed or story about how wonderful Cant states departing pres. is I'm going to puke.

I'm sure this came as no surprise to the coaching staff. The McNees signing should of been a sign to the Zips faithful that something was going on . I agree that we need to use this to sign a big man(if one can be found!).

Big Ben went head first into a windshield today. He was not wearing a helmet at the time. Kinda makes KW-2 look brilliant. At least he had on a helmet!http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/9493900

yep and he's campaigning for building a retractable roof on cleveland browns stadium in hopes to attract a super bowl to cleveland. He's not a very big Charlie Frye fan though. Him and GP1 should be best buddys then. BTW, Tim Couch sucked. Tim Couch! Some lessons are learned the hard way, and that is what the pre-draft workouts are for. Couch sucked in his first workout and asked for another one with the Browns. He prepared him self and did great. No wonder he was occasionally prepared in his pro-career. To compare him to Price and the Cavs that got eliminated by a one-man army is ludacris. Those guys consistently gave it their all and just barely lost in several game 7's. The only consistent thing about Couch was his inconsistency. Tim Couch could not read a defense to save his life. The only plays he made were on scrambles and hail marys. He would wait until someone was open and waving their arms in the air to throw and by the time the ball arrived so did the defender. He couldn't throw a timing pass or anything mid-range. At KU they didn't even have a play book, just drew em up on the dirt!

Zac is a great guy from a nice family. His parents sat next to us during his stay at the university. He is married to a former Zips Dance Team hottie. Good luck Zac!

My sources tell me that the $$$ are now in place, but there are still several pieces of property left to purchase. Until these are secured don't expect an anouncement. On of the hold outs is the Odd Corner. They seem to want to stay in the new retail that will be part of the project. Needless to say that isn't sitting well with the administration. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and things can start happening on the new stadium. -
So the only important qualification to be an assistant coach is to come from a "Big program". Give KD a break and let things play out before rushing to judgement.

In case you haven't noticed this board is for people who are FANS of Zips sports. Not for TROLLS from Toledo.

How about one like this one. I was there and it only seats 180k!

After watching last nights Div. 1 semi-final game I have to say my first impression is not good. He seemed slow and disinterested. His shot selection was poor and and he threw up alot of airballs. The biggest thing was his lack of hustle. Their opponent was off to the races on every possesion yet he just plodded up the floor with no sense of urgency. His man had quite a few slams on fast breaks. Lets hope KD can light a fire under this kid.

Zip recruit McKinght will be TV 3/24/05
Hilltopper replied to ZipAnalyst's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Ther is a listing in todays Canton Rep that says the Mckinley game will be on tape delay starting at 8pm on ONN. The Lancaster game is listed as starting at 9:30 pm on ONN. -
Chris Mcknight has been named 1st team Div 1 and Darryl Roberts has earned 2nd team honors for the 2005-2005 season. Also read what Rasor wrote in his blog about his interview with KD. Mike Bardo is a project on offense but should be ok on D. This is the type of recruiting that will make us a winner for a long time.

I guess only time will tell.

So I guess we're not going to get a new stadium?

The main reason for any radio brodcast is to make money for the athletic department. That fact would seem to preclude WZIP due to their nonprofit status. The way it works is the atheletic department decides on a $$$ figure they need for the "Rights" to broadcast the Zips games. They then solicit proposals from local radio brodcasters. Then the AD decides what the best package is and thats how you end up with 1350 being the flagship. They were willing to pay more or offered other advantages over the competition. When the next contract comes up, hopefully some other more well know broadcaster will step up and give the Zips a stronger radio voice.

DId you see in the article that the attendance was less than 1000. If that game is played at the JAR its a sellout! What F was the NIT thinking? Now we have to fly cross country to play a rested team. Oh'well life is still good!

This oldtimer says this is the greatest win in the last 30 years!
-
Thanks for the sane response David. I guess I qualify as an oldtimer, Iv'e got 36 years invested as a Zips fan. I went to my first Acme-Zip game at age 10 in 1969. Basketball started in 1972 and haven't missed many home games in either sport. The problem with the lower bowl seats at the JAR is the price is so high only more "mature" Zips fans can afford them. What people forget is that the "Reserved" 65 year old fan you see today is the same guy that at 45 waa screaming for the referee's head when Huggins was the coach in 86. Since then he has had to live through the Crawford and Hipsher regimes of horrible basketball. Those loyal fans deserve praise for sticking with the Zips through thick and thin.

OK everyone, TAKE A DEEP BREATH, its only a game played by teenagers. The sun will rise tomorrow and life will go onward. It was a fun season. Anybody who thinks this team underachieved this season is nuts. We lost three key players and still made it to the semis. Enjoy what you have and quit trashing the very people who made it happen.

My sources tell me we are only $1 millon away from our goal of $20 millon needed to make the announcement about the new stadium. Preliminary site work has already started with the demolition of several buildings. The lead fundraiser for this project is none other than Gerry Faust. It appears that he is doing a great job! The stadium will be sited as I said in an earlier post. Look for the announcement soon.
