Does this mean goodbye JD?
-
C'mon Big Zip, you don't remember Klaus Zollner! Now there was a ringing endorsement for recruiting overseas.
-
At least I don't live in Michigan!
-
Did you guys see the sideline interview during the MACC championship game last night? I thought Charlie handled himself well. Again he was mentioned as a possible 1st round pick.
-
C'Mon Dave, register already!

Check oit this article in todays USA today. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/foo...rterbacks_x.htm

So let me get this right Zipper, any johnny come lately who is willing to spend a $1 more than me this year should have the ability to knock me out of the seats that I have paid for the last 25 years. Never mind the fact that I have spent and contributed many thousand $ during that period. The bottom line is that they are throwng mud on the people who have made it possible to have the program we have today. Just because someone at the university thinks they have a hot ticket now doesn't mean it will happen. People will vote with their wallets. Captain K has hit the nail on the head. You build fan bases with average people, not corporate "donors".

Anyone else find it funny that:

So you think that around $100 millon per year is not funding higher education at UA. The states contribution accounts for around 45% of the toatl operating costs of the university. As a taxpayer I must say when will it ever be enough to satisfy some people. Throwing more money at a problem is not always the answer. -

My dad called the Beacon the next day when they didn't cover the story to ask why. The answer was that it wasnt newsworthy. All channel 3"s report was based on a press release by the architechural firm that made the drawings for the university. They "knew " that the university doesn't have the fund to build it right now. so in their minds there is no story. I guess enough other people called that they had to run something. IMHO its all political as to the Beacons attitude towards the university. Until there is a change of partys in Columbus and the resulting changes on the board of trustees at UA don't expect much "support" from the ABJ. -
Finally a game where we looked like a football team. Nice balance of run and pass. Great individual play by Hixon(246yds all-purpose),Biggs(165yds rushing) kept buffalo on their heels all night. #5 was in complete control tonite(202yrds passing,2td). Good amount of blitzing and aggresive defense tonite. Maybe we can make a game of it with the remainder of the schedule after all.

As we were in the process of changing our seat location, the young lady at the ticket office told us we wouldn't know the location of or new seats until the ticket manager had time to go through the dozens of other requests from other ticket holders. Guest zip, do you understand anything about economics? Price is a function of supply and demand, when demand goes up so does price and vise-versa. Seeing as how the JAR is not exactly packed for most games it seems to me that the net effect of this policy will a loss of revenue to school. There is an axiom in business that costs much more to get a new customer than to retain an old one. MY prediction, lots of empty blue seats in the lower level unless they give them away.

We finally got tired of the constant turmoil invovled in knowing how much the "donation to the Zip atheltic club" would be each year in order to maintain our same seats that we have had since the day the JAR opened. When we finally got the order form and brochure, it informed us that for the honor of staying put it would cost us $525 per seat and $56 per parking pass!!!!!! $2212 for four seats and two parking passes!!!!!!!!!!!!! We've been season ticket holders for over 30 years in basketball and football. This is not the NBA folks. These guys are trying to charge champaign prices for cheap draft beer. The end result is that we moved up to the upper reseve area, total cost for 4 seats and parking passes: $512. Net loss to the university: $1700. These guys who run this have no idea what they are doing. Hell of a way to do business.

GP1, just how many games have you actually seen Frye play? He has plenty of arm strength for the NFL game. During the M Tenn game this season there was a play where he made a perfect 50 yd. throw while being drug down to the ground. The ball was on a rope ond hit Montgomery on the numbers.....he dropped it! Frye is big, mobile, fearless and more than enough arm for the boys on sundays.

IF YOU WERE THE AD FOR AKRON U WHAT WOULD YOU DO??
Hilltopper replied to a topic in Akron Zips Football
The reason we suck is very simple: the O-line sucks and we are too small and slow on defense. No amount of coaching will change the fact that we have very little talent. -
Now that I see that the game will be televised and with the parking situation I will not be attending. Why can't they move the students cars to the other lots. What a joke!!!!!!

Hey Chicken Little, the sky is not going to fall on the football program. The fact is the previous staff left the cupboard bare. It will take several seasons before we know if JD can walk the walk or is just another BS artist like LO. What is your story going to be if the hoops program struggles???? Get a life and give the new staff some time.

I'll be there with my dad and my two sons. I probably haven't missed 10 home games since 1970, although it got harder and harder during the last few years.
-
Basch has been an enigma during his UA career. As big as he is, he is way to injury prone. To me it looks like he has small feet for a guy carrying the pounds he does.

Great, just what we need....another Owens troll. Would one of the Mods please put him(and us) out of his misery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is anyone going to sign up a team for the Zips football golf outing on 6/24? It's a scramble with 2 three man teams on each hole. Guess the're expecting a big turnout?? Cost is $100 per player and you get all the usual golf outing stuff.
-
Captain, If you look closely at the second page of the brochuere you will find that the individual fee is $100. Based on the course they chose, they should net a pretty good buck on each player(~$60cost). Mayfair may be revamped, but it is still a second tier golf course. Of course I may be a little jaded since I belong to the place across the street.

Looks like Matt Cherry has come out of the draft in pretty good shape after signing a free agent contract with the receiver starved Jaguars. I think he might have a chance to make the roster after they traded K Johnson to Baltimore on sunday.

I ran into Dan Bailey at church this morning and he told me Gardeners career is over. It was a total break . Did anyone elese notice that LO son andy is still on the squad? He even got some PT yesterday.

One additional note from The JD Show
Hilltopper replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
The only info I have is that both of the kids recruited from Mass. Perry will be redshirted next year. Jesse Arnz and Syler were told to concentrate on academics and the weight room. -
So much for our theory on the night of the Drake game, Eh captain.
