  1. I believe that Memorial Hall is scheduled to be torn down soon.
  2. This news just in: Apparently the Dayton game has been cancelled by coach Dambrot. I guess he was watching ESPN2 today, and determined that playing a team of Dayton's caliber just didn't fit into his scheduling strategy of staying in the bottom-50 of RPI. I understand we will play Tiffin instead. Looks like CMU beat us to the punch. http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketbal...0071229_TIF@CMI
  3. Dude, You never cease to amaze me! My kids read this board, I hope you are kidding about this?
  4. Here's probably where our fundamental difference of opinion lies. You're looking at this as 30 (really it's 21) years of frustration since the last NCAA birth .. or maybe you're looking back to the last deep run in the College Division. Understandable .. if I had seen Wyatt Webb's teams play .. I might feel the same long term pressure .. but I've only got about 25 years of Zips watching. My view is this: This is not the same as 18 years ago .. it's not the same as 10 years ago .. and it's not the same as 5 years ago. We can NOT consider this year 21 of the rebuilding process .. or year 30 .. or whatever. I think we can only look at the program in it's current form: KD as head coach. This is year 4 of a program build under KD. He wasn't head coach in 1993, or 2003 .. he's the head coach now, and I think the program now is what we have to look at:2004-05: 19-10 overall, 11-7 in Conference, First Conf. Tourney win2005-06: 23-10 overall, 14-4 in Conference, Reached Conf Semis, 1-1 in the NIT2006-07: 25-7 Overall, 13-3 in Conference, Reached Conf. Tourney Finals.2007-08: 5-1 record thus far.I choose to consider the program's progress on these items alone .. not the 19 years of futility that preceded them. We're not going to wake up tomorrow and be a top 15 team that can demand reasonable game terms from other elite teams. But if we're patient, and support the team, coaches & program adequately, we WILL wake up a few years from now in that situation. This is going to take a little bit. We have to have some continuous improvement and the program will eventually be able to win year after year. JWood is the last player that remembers what it was like before .. and it either motivates him, or he's left it behind. Either way .. only now can you really say that every aspect of the program has KD's mark.I for one am good with what I see .. ZW, I agree with you on this approach. It would be interesting to see the history of how Gonzaga made itself into a mid-major power. Did they play all the big west coast programs and take thier lickings or was it a process similar to what KD is doing right now.
  5. How about it GP?
  6. Thanks for your support
  7. I hope you are right about the modest charge for seat licenseing. My gut tells me that it will be a onetime charge in addition to the ongoing donation required to the Z scholarship fund. I would expect that prime seats(NOT Club) would be in the range of $200-$500 ea. For Club or other levels alot more.
  8. I was assured that season ticket holders will get priority choices. How tenured you are as a season ticket holder will also play a part. With the longest tenured ticket holders getting the earliest selections. Considering the miniscule number of season ticket holders, anyone wanting season tickets at the new stadium can easily become a season ticket holder next season and still get a prime selection of seats.I would expect that the best seats will also have a "Seat License" that must be paid in addition to the cost of the seats. I have been a season ticket holder for 37 years, so I would hope that would give me a good chance at great seats, but I'm not sure I will be able to afford this extra charge for 5 seats.
  9. I can verify that Wagner was the scout team QB.
  10. Here what I saw from the new guys;* McNees is going to be OK. He seemed in much better condition than what we saw in preseason last year. KD says he lost 12-15 lbs and it shows in his ability to run. he is a much better ball handler than I expected. He is definatly a scorer first. I thought he did OK on defense. *Bardo also looked OK. For a young big man he moved OK and didn't seem lost out there. I doubt that he will help much on offense. He did snag four rebounds and wasn't embarassed on defense. He will play alot if he can avoid dumb fouls.*Sweich is definately a project. He didn't even leave the bench until garbage time. He is very slow and looked a little lost out there. He did make one basket, but if that was his normal shot, it was ugly. He kind of shot puts it to the basket on a line drive. He needs to redshirt and let the game come to him this year at practice.* Steward was dressed but did not get into the game. During the post game show KD hinted that he will play if healthy and I got the impression that he was ahead of McNees on the depth chart before being hurt. Now for the returning players;*Quade looked ready to go. That little jump hook shot will serve him well this year. He got pushed around a bit on the boards.*Wood had a so-so night. Offensively he was not at his best. He did try a couple of short jumpers but they were ugly.*Dials also wasn't sharp on offense. He did look good running the show at the point.*Linhart was his usual scrappy self. Lots of floor burns and fights for loose balls.*Conyers looks like this could be his breakout season. Played under control and looked better on offense than last year.*Goddard will probably see some real minutes this season. He can still shoot. Defense, not so good.*Middleton DNP*McKnight had a weird game. Even though he was the leading scorer you would be hard pressed to explain how. He took some ugly shots and didn't rebound very well. Lets hope he finds his groove and settles into his role.It sounded like KD is counting on Roberts and B McKnight to contribute when they become eligable. All things considered it was a good night.
  11. No doors. Won't be at the final game so I can't take a pic for you. But if it's like last night, someone should have no problem getting a pick with no one in there. I went in a couple of times and was the only one in there. Hot as hell in there, too. Kind of like a sauna. With that small of a crowd, the bowl REALLY shows its age.Actual photo from last night. No joke here.Dr Z, are you sure thats the Rubber Bowl? Looks like Springfield HS to me!
  12. Huh?
  13. CK, My 8yr old son said the same thing! It was the most entertaining part of the game.
  14. I've been told by someone close to the program that coach Moorhead is a very strict guy. Once you get on his bad side, he doesn't forget. CJ7 seems to have put himself into the doghouse and there is no relief in sight.
  15. These preseason polls are just guesses on what might be the strongest teams based on last years returning players and any newcomers. What makes me confident that the Zips will be OK at the end of the year is KD's ability to coach up the players all season long. Since KD has been here every player has improved continuesly from season to season, sometimes game to game. As long as we don't have a rash of injuries we will have a great season.
  16. Nice catch CK. Lets hope he blossoms and the Zips get lucky and steal one from the big guys.
  17. I hope I'm wrong about JD, but so many of his battles are internal it would make it hard to go to work every day.The thought of a draw play on second and ten makes me want to vomit. I'm feeling even more glad I was not there Saturday. I have no problem with a running play, but we should be doing what NFL teams do on second and ten. They run straight at the line and try to get four/five and make it third and five/six. NFL teams try to increase the probablity of getting the first down on third down by decreasing the yards necessary on second down. It's just one of those trends that has taken hold the past few years. First down is a passing down and if there is an incompletion, they run on second. Draw plays on 2nd and 10! Those are the kind of play calls you see when the gameplan becomes "Playing not to lose". I agree about the concept of throw on 1st down and run it up the gut on 2nd. Anything on 3rd down 5 yards or less is a good position for the offense. From that yardage you can run or pass.
  18. JD Brookhart = .500 coach at best.
  19. Hilltopper, did you get to watch the game on tv this week? I saw CJ7 on numerous occasions meet CJ11 as he was coming off the field. Tapping him on the head, discussing things. He looked into the game last week. Is this a sign? I hope so. I hope its a sign. I agree that CJ7 has the tools to be a winner, just lacks the focus.
  20. From what I've seen this year I'm note sure CJ7 is ever going to mature into what kind of QB he could be. Even last year I felt he spent way too much time on the sideline goofing off, even when the O was on the field. I thought CJ11 looked pretty good in the Army game, where has that guy gone? Until we can consistantly move the ball through the air and make some big plays, teams are going to stack the box and shut down our running game.
  21. You will need a lawyer to decipher it.
  22. It was way too exciting in the last 2 minutes! I'm not sure how we did it, but a win is a win.
  23. I have many memorable experiences in regards to the Rubber Bowl. The first was the 1969 Acme-Zip game against Tampa, my first ever Zips game. Over the next 37 years alot of good times such as the 1976 season which included playoff victorys against Nevada/Las Vegas and Northern Michigan, Karl Walenda walking the tightrope, epic battles against rivals YSU and Can't State, lots of great highschool games plus many more. The bad times included Chris Angeloffs death on the sidelines, the 1988 loss to patsy Arkansas St on the fumblerooski play, Gordon Larsons last game , a thumping by the Quantico Marines in a blizzard. The most memorable moment of all has to be the November 15th 2005 game against Ohio. That was the night my Dads dream and wishes came true. Dad lived and died for the Zips for 40 years. The Zips won an important game to keep alive their hopes of winning the MAC east. Dad wasn't there to see it, he had passed away exactly 1 year to the day prior. After the game I went onto the field and spread some of his ashes on the 50 yard line. For years he had joked that he wanted his remains scatterd over the bowl by one of the low flying planes so often seen at games. When the Rubber Bowl is finally gone I will still remember the great times more than anything else and it will always be a special place.
  24. I am outraged at the location of my tickets for the Army game. This is just another slap in the face of the loyal fans who have supported this program for a lot of losing seasons. I can't wait to see the thousands of empty seats between the 20 yard lines when no one shows up to use their freebie ticket that someone at their work paid for. WHAT A JOKE!
  25. Your beating a dead horse SGM405. We all know you think Frye can't play. Let it go, you'll feel better in the long run.
