George uncovers MAJOR defensive improvement stats: "Over the past three games, the Zips have improved their defensive field-goal percentage to 43 percent from more than 44 percent before." -
Seeding maybe. Selecting a mid-major for an at-large? Never.

I heard on WWTF that is was the Zips performance against OSU in the NIT last year that sealed the deal. -

UConn to the MAC (football only)?
Captain Kangaroo replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football
That was me! Great memory of that game was Brookhart going ballistic just before halftime because Jacquemain took a half-ending sack on the 5 yard line instead of throwing the ball away. Cost us a then much-needed 3 points. About as hard as I've ever seen a player get chewed-out. -

Great pizza in Hartford. I went to see the Zips play UConn back in the Brookhart era. Renchler Field is not the best place I've ever been as far as tailgating goes. A lot of east coast "New York attitude" that can rub some midwesterners the wrong way. The vibe was more "city" than "campus-like", as you'd expect. Nothing like Wisconsin...or even Army (two of my favorite trips to-date). But overall I had a good time. -

Give me a home-home with UConn football over a home-home with BG anytime. We'd still play BG frequently enough for me in cross-over games...it's not like they'd be completley off the schedule. Note - UConn football plays in Hartford...a 25 mile drive from Storrs. Just my opinion. -
UConn to the MAC (football only)?

But only against Top-tier MAC programs. If you suck (suck = bottom 75% of the MAC in the previous season) you don't get to play UConn. Top 2 teams get the home game. UConn is 12-12 this year. It's not "slumming" for them to travel to 22-4 Akron for a game. -

Bring in UConn football. But every season, the previous year's MAC Men's Basketball Champ gets a home game with UConn. I'd be for it. Maybe Army football would then consider joining, or bring back UMass to make things numerically even. -
Who knew Andrew Bogut played in the MAC?

Toledo @ Zips, Tuesday 2/14

The year we won 26 games and didn't get a post season invite was criminal. If Big Dog isn't MAC POTY, it would be an even larger injustice. And if Kwan isn't 1st team all-MAC, the offense is similar. The Zips are running roughshod over the MAC...it's pretty much a Secretariat-like beat down, Having the top 2 Zips as 1st Team All MAC is a given. They'd both start for any other team in the league. -

I caught one of the Panera coupons. It was for $5.00 off a catering order. Might be the worst give-away ever. It was fun to catch, I guess. -

I thought the Zips had great offensive energy in the first half, but played minimal defense. And blew way too many bunnies. Ivey and Josh stood out in half #1. Once we were down 11, Kwan got visibly pissed off. He was a different player from there on out, as was Big Dog. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you get the incentive to fight back. I thought this might have been Kwan's best game as a Zip. He did what senior all MAC players are supposed to do...take over the game in the 2nd half. The crowd really didn't want to see the home win streak end tonight. Kudos to them for stepping up. Noah needs to pick it up on the offensive end. No excuse for scoring zero points until the final couple minutes. Too many missed bunnies and open looks. DesssssperateToledoooo...why don't you come to your senses...you been chasin' those Zipses...since Humpty broke your heart...You got heart ache...and it will continue at The Q...if indeed you make it to The Q.... make it to THE Q....I hope you make it to The Q....where we'll whip your butt... Drive home safely everyone. -

Game day excitement is reaching a boiling point in Toledo. And I thought the aging of our board was sad... Rock on, Rockets. -
I hope on this Valentine's Day that Ken Pom has some luck with Barbie Pom. Maybe it would help to take her to Don's Pomeroy House? A little Absolute + POM will get the party started. And remember - You make your own LUCK, Ken.

I like TDM. Several times this season, when the starting guards are heaving bricks, he's entered and hit a "3" or two to help us weather the drought. He was playing with only one good eye for the better part of two weeks in January and acquitted himself fairly well. I've seen him penetrate the paint and make some nice passes. He's a good ball handler. EMU was probably his worst game of the year, but usually he provides us some good minutes, and an offensive spark. Which is tough to do when you're a Freshman getting only a handful of game minutes per night. I see Robotham throwing away that late-game inbounds pass against Ball State...it would have cost us the game if not for Big Dog's heroics...and I see TDM isn't the only one making pressure-related mistakes. There's plenty of sub 6-foot guards playing excellent basketball. Ohio native Keon Johnson is 5' 7", and just became Winthrop's all time leading scorer. Isaiah Thomas is tearing up the NBA at 5' 9". I'm a TDM fan. I like what he's shown thus far, and I like is potential too.
