I like the formula. 25% JUCO and 75% other (primarily Fr.'s). You can't build a progrum on JUCO's and transfers, but you can fill some gaping holes pretty well while you're building the progrum.

The only whiff I got was the smell of a team I wish was on Bowden's schedule. Who in the MAC office did Lee Owens pay off to get EMU on his schedule every season?

Coach eating with Can't State coach?

He should have treated Senderoff like Garnett treated Ray Allen last night! -
I predict he'll be the new Quincy Diggs.

Coach eating with Can't State coach?

So LZip is saying Bowden is "pro cancer?!" Who knew? Come to think of it...I haven't seen him wearing pink yet... -
The MAC caught up to our offense

The bottom 3 are woeful. Given the Zips present situation, I'd give my left nut to be anywhere above that level. -
October 30 coaches poll

Odd to see one of our former interim AD's is completely axe-ing soccer, while another is sitting at #8 nationally. -
How Will Bowden Handle "K.e.n.t. Week?"
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I am guessing if there are any tricks up TB's sleeve, we'll see them this week. He hasn't tried a fake FG or punt this season...now's the time. Onside kick to begin the game? You're 1-8...go for it. Offense needs to quit sputtering and get back to early-season form. That will be the key to us having a shot, or losing by 20. When's the last time our defense created a turnover...I won't look it up, but it seems like it was Commack's INT @ Tennessee? Time for the D to create some TO's. -

How Will Bowden Handle "K.e.n.t. Week?"

Hazell took over a team that was 5-4 at one point during the previous season. Bowden took over a team that was 2-22 over the previous 2 seasons. Big difference. Taking a team that was 5-4 after 9 games, and elevating that team to 8-1 at the same point 2 seasons later is easily within the ability of any good coach. Give Hazell a 2-22 Zips team and tell me where he'd be this season. Give this 2012 Zips team to our Director of Strategic Development and tell me his record. Given the schedule, talent and injuries, TB has done a great job. -
Me too. That's why you know it will get better. Faust got us 7 wins in a season. Owens took a 1-10 Faust team and eventually got to .500 Brookhart took Owens' team and won a MAC championship Ianello - took us back to the stone age Bowden - People need faith. He's WAY better qualified than Faust, Brookhart or Owens, and he'll eclipse the levels those guys reached. He just got dealt a shitty first hand. In track they stagger the start in order to make races like the 200m and 400m fair. In football, there's no such equalizer. You start from the back, and everyone else gets a big fat head start.

K.e.n.t. was worse than us 3 years ago. Now they're 8-1. Why is it so impossible for the Zips to recruit and improve?

How Will Bowden Handle "K.e.n.t. Week?"
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
After our Gardner Webb loss, I saw we had a good chance to be in our present position. But I didn't see K.e.n.t. getting to their present level. K.e.n.t. beating an 8 - 0 Rutgers team is surreal. Maybe Rutgers was as soft an undefeated team as OU, but still...it's K.e.n.t. football. -
As mentioned previously by Keener, Owens and Brookhart, despite their mediocre tenures, always made the K.e.n.t. game a big deal. And with two rare exceptions, where NFL'ers Josh Cribbs and Julian Edelman imposed their will on some perhaps somewhat overconfident Zips, the Zips made the Flashes their annual bitch. Enter Ianello, who tried his best to pretend the Zips had any gridiron successes prior to his arrival (I still laugh at him mandating replays of the MCB, Marshall Comeback and K.e.n.t. Snow Bowl wins not be replayed on the Info Jumbotron), and poo poo'd the K.e.n.t. game as "just another game." You have to love the guy's attempts to hide recent tradition to cover his own ineptitude. So what does Bowden say this week regarding the Wagon Wheel, and the fact that a win vs. K.e.n.t. would salvage the Zips season? I wonder....

While I agree with the bulk of your post, I recall TB tossing the term "bowl eligibility" around in September. Around the same time NewZipsFan was looking forward to an 8-0 romp through the MAC? I think his first time through the league has given the staff, and new fans, a reality check on what it takes to win the MAC in 2013. If you are fielding 3rd stringers and Freshman, you are going to get your clock cleaned. We've made a quantum leap forward in competitiveness this season, but have miles to go before we can legitimately run with the big dogs.

It is amazing that, in 2009, K.e.n.t. was 5-4 going into their game vs. the Zips. They had won 3-in-a-row. The Zips started Patrick Nicely at QB, and won 28-20. The common denominator - Each team decided to improve their coaching situation. And based upon the Bell Curve, one AD achieved what we all are after, while the other was "- 5th standard deviation," heart-wrendingly awful.

1.) Why would you presume said people know something? I would say it is much more accurate to presume they know very little. 2.) No high profile recruits are rushing to MAC programs in droves in October. If you want to chug Drano because the Zips aren't kicking everone's ass in recruiting on October 29th, you really don't understand the depths to which Ianello sunk us, and the realities of what it takes to rise above. October 29th is not the time to panic about recruiting. Especially when it is going well for the Zips. 3.) Wistercill 4.) Us getting worse each week is not a commentary on our coaching. It's a commentary on our microscopically thin talent level, and what losing players like D'Orazio, Pressley, Martin, Caponi and Chisholm mean to our competitive potential. There is no way, with our 4th string defensive line, thin OL and Connor Hundly at RB that we had any chance of competing on the road @ CMU. Ianello dug us a hole as deep as any in 1-A history. There's no amount of "coaching up" that can turn us around in 2012. We need to do our best to compete with K.e.n.t., which will be difficult because K.e.n.t. is playing good football, and Ianello so de-emphasised the meaning of the Wagon Wheel ("...its just another game in the process") that I really wonder if we have any chance whatsoever of pulling-off an emotion-led upset. We gotta beat UMass.

We need wins. If the underclassmen give us a better chance to win, they should play. Otherwise, they should sit, learn, work hard in the off season, and make their impact next year. I don't think Pohl gives us a better chance than Williams to win. Our receivers still won't get separation from quality DB's, and our OL will still get pushed back by stronger, fresher DL's as the game wears on. Bowden needs a win. The players need a win. I need a win. My son who's only seen 3 wins in the past 2.75 years...while K.e.n.t. State has SEVEN wins in the past 2 months...he needs to see a win. Win.

Our logo should be Wonder Woman's airplane.

If there was a MAC-sponsored sport for being whiny little bitches, there sure are some All-MAC candidates in that thread. I give the girl that can't tell the difference between K.e.n.t. and Akron my MVP vote.

Will the Zips Run More in 2012-2013?
Captain Kangaroo replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Wish in one hand... It is a drawback in some respects to not have Quincy, but it is a great opportunity for another player to fill the void. People seem to only remember the positives...Q had drawbacks too. On some teams a player like Q would be irreplaceable. On this Zips team, he is replaceable. -
Chisholm, Hines and Alexander out? Yeowch....good luck Conner.

A little different than Ianello, who under the same circumstances said: "If you don't like me, then get the #@!&$# out."
