What is the solution and is it fixable?
Captain Kangaroo replied to 1981 grad's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Done, and done. 🍺🍺🍺 -
Name one in the past 5 years.

We're 6-6 over our past 12 games. We've pretty much lost every "measuring stick" game this season. We are strongly heading in the wrong direction, at the wrong time. We started the season as the MAC favorites. Now we're relegated to a puncher's chance in Cleveland...if a couple of our guards decide to play as hard as the WMU guards competed in the second half last night. And we really haven't had any bad luck...were just Freeman at center, with a mediocre assembly of talent milling about him. I've never seen a team shoot as poorly as this one. When Freeman exits the game, we are a complete sh!tshow. We'd need to improve exponentially just to reach the level of "sieve" on the defensive side of the ball. That's just the way it is. See you Thursday night.

Certainly not overconfident with this team. We’ve stunk for a month heading into Cleveland. Enrique is solid, but his style can’t carry the team. He can’t put up 35 on a given night to make up for the continual offensive ineptitude. Where would we be without Tribble’s emergence? Dawson has been awful. Thornton has been awful. Scott has been awful. On his best day, Hunter has been “ok”. More often than not he’s been invisible. He can’t defend. Nate Johnson hasn’t been impactful since December. His return from injury has netted zero positive impact on the Zips. Tavari hits a few 3’s, then immediately negates it with some blunder. This is Big Boy Basketball, and just being nice, lovable scalawags isn’t enough. Freeman, Ali and Tribble can only carry this crew so far. We could still take it all in Cleveland, just as easily as Freeman can get the typical 18/12 double-double and no help…and immediately head off to the G-League while the Zips try to figure out how to rebuild. Wake up, or go home Zips.

I like Ali’s aggression. Scott missed a layup? Another Zips offensive drought. -
My son had a #44 "Zeke" jersey for at least a full season. Maybe 2?

It’s about as insightful as me saying Caitlin Clark can shoot.

If Thornton wouldn’t have transferred, they probably have been 10-18/4-11 this season. -

Prop #2: Lyles gets his foul #1 within 23 seconds of entering the game. +105
-
Prop #1 - Ali gets a technical after draining a three, high-fiving Enrique and exclaiming "yay". +105

How do you break a Kent grad's finger? Punch him in the nose.

Hunter - maybe. Tavari - yes. Everyone else...Bad. We're 25 games into the season and Dawson, Scott, Ali, Tribble and Thornton (for the past month) make me cringe when they hoist a three. Ali brings a mid-range game to the table, and has a knack for run-stopping buckets. Tribble's floaters also help us ride out some dry spells from beyond the arc. If the other guys are struggling from 3, they don't bring much else to the offensive side of the table.

2023-2024 Zips Women's Basketball

Is he a big Swiftie? -
White hot. Dawson is 2-16 in his last three games.

Prather had two "hustle plays" that really stood out in the Buffalo game. The latter was a tip-away to stop a Buffalo fast break...he hauled ass down the court and prevented a wide open transition 3. I'm all for giving him minutes and putting some pressure on the guys who've been above him in the pecking order. Or, taking their place.

Thornton is a veritable Reggie Miller amongst that crew @ 38% Hunter 36.7% Freeman - 35.3% Tribble - 33.3% Scott - 30.9% Ali 29.9% Dawson - 29.6% Note - Tavari's 51.3% leads the team. đź’Ş

You're right. I should have specified "young at the guard position". Buffalo is a mix of bad transfers and freshman. They're terrible.
-
Buffalo is a small, young team that wasn't even remotely impressive the last time they played the Zips. The Zips need to atone for their sorry performance in Virginia last week and take care of business tomorrow. Zips by 17. The "WE-want_WIL-son" cheers will unfortunately fall on deaf ears.

Roughly a week ago Groce said Nate was going to have the hard cast removed, with a soft cast replacing it. There are varying degrees of a "broken hand". I think Nate got a worse one than we'd like. If he's serviceable by the MAC Tourney I'd be ecstatic.

This is definitely the textbook definition of a "necrobump".

Regarding Chris Riddle - saw DePaul is sitting at 3-21 this year.

I’m hearing Joe Moorhead.
