  1. I will not let you down! This week: >16, Zips win (as mentioned earlier, the number will vary slightly due to caliber of opponent, and home/away). Obviously, if we play EMU, Harney can have 0 pts and 5 fouls and we'd win by 17. Hmmm...maybe I'll add a "win by" factor for those games? Hmmm...
  2. Who said anything about playing Harney more? I only inferred: Our chance of winning games against quality opponents is directly proportional to Harney's minutes. 20 is the number. If Harney takes himself out of the game due to poor shooting or foul trouble, it is no different than KD taking him out. Minutes are minutes. If Harney gets 20, we win. Against Miami or BG, the number drops. Against K.e.n.t., at home, magic number is 17+.
  3. Harney - 16 minutes. Zips lose.
  4. Please leave open spots, Coach. We will not win squat with Division 3 talent. You know BCS schools pull scholarships at the last minute, leaving a lot of great talent searching for a scholarship on signing day. You also know that great talents, but with borderline grades or on-the-edge credits can be looking for a scholarship in a couple months, after their BCS offer is pulled. The Akron Zips are not a scholarship donor for every short, slow, injured-but-gritty local high school star. There a reason Walsh, Mount Union, Ashland, YSU etc. exist. There's a reason the term "preferred walk on" exists. Fill our 30,000 seat stadium by taking the best Division 1A student athletes. Taking-on non-D1 talent for the sake of building a relationship with a local coach is suicide. I'm not telling Bowden anything he already doesn't know. But some other people think we can build a winner in Akron with First Team All State kids from Mogadore...and that ain't gonna happen.

  7. Selling UA replica basketball jerseys? Whoa, there Mr. Loose Cannon...that's CRAZY-talk! No school does stuff like that. On a related note...the old Porky's Place selection is really sad. I used to look forward to seeing what's new. Not anymore.
  8. You can make a shot. And Quincy Diggs can make a shot. Statistically, you and Q would be identical. But there is no similarity in your games.
  9. I disagree. But I should have clarified that I only meant offensive skill set. Defensively, huge difference. Ever see Ibitayo's 3-point shot? It's like someone stretched-out Joyce on a rack until he hit 6ft 3, and let him bomb-away. Very similar.
  10. What is the "AA/Dru Joyce mold"? Those guys are completely different players. AA = Lightning quick, pesky defense, dribble-penetration Joyce = Conservative ball handler, set-shot 3-pointer, relied on high basketball IQ to compensate for an otherwise ordinary skill-set. Ibitayo is much more in the "Dru Joyce mold" than AA.
  11. I think it will be interesting to see how Zeke fares against another physical inside big. Mavunga ate Zeke alive. We'll see what lessons were learned.
  12. They're like Ohio State's colors, so Joe Akron must like them?
  13. If you get information from a source, you should mention the source. It is about basic integrity. If the ABJ is used as a reference (on the show), it is specifically mentioned. The ABJ does not advertise on the program. Just because we promote University of Akron Athletics 24/7, 365 for free doesn't mean anyone should cite ZN.o information without due credit. I give the ABJ credit for mentioning our site when references are appropriate. Rasor has done it too. The others, including the PD...never.
  14. Harney plays >20 minutes, we win. Harney plays 20-or-less, Buffalo wins.
  15. Joe Dunn is petrified of internet news, and really goes out of his way to avoid any mention of our site. It's almost comical. He'll mention what "fans think," and then repeat something he read here. But he'll never mention ZipsNation. Hi Joe. Thanks for stopping in. Hope you enjoy our site, and the fact that we promote your show for free.
  16. We may need to combine "exactly's" and "no doubt about it's" if we want to catch a buzz?
  17. Isn't the game already sold-out? Roughly 5,500. Fire Marshall will not allow more.
  18. I figured Duquesne was the bad loss because it was on a neutral court, but you are right...there was no silver-lining to the MTSU butt-whippin'.
  19. Taking away nothing from his career accomplishments on the sidelines, it is unreal what a "pro" Bowden is in Sales/Marketing. Looking at past UA hirings, there was NOTHING that even remotely compares to the absolute blitz of fantastic information we've witnessed over the past few weeks regarding the Program. He's getting his message pushed to whomever will listen, and pounding on those who won't listen until they do so. In the past, the University waited for the ABJ or radio or TV to call them to provide media exposure. The media craves a good story...but they will not typically pursue UA for information. UA needs to feed it to them. Relentlessly. Bowden's crew are absolute pros. And the results of their early efforts, on all fronts, really are impressive.
  20. We have a great team. We should be playing opposing OOC teams of similar talent. Bottom line.
  21. The Wistercil piñata has been whacked enough. By hook or by crook, we have a great new head football coach. I agree with ME87...enjoy it. If he steps on another land mine, have at him. But for now, enjoy the good stuff. Now that football optimism abounds, good stuff is officially everywhere.
  22. “We’ll take every one of our coaches and spend the night,” Bowden said of the coaches’ clinic. “They go out and do bud-boy things that Friday night and we want to be with ’em. Have a beer with ’em, have a good time with ’em and show we’re going to be a presence.” A coach who realizes the importance of beer in building relationships. Love it.
  23. Mary Tyler Moore makes her second appearance on ZipsNation in the past month? Her career's being resurrected a la Betty White?!
  24. Manhattan 75 Iona 72 Iona out-scored by 20 in the 2nd half. No idea how this affects a Zips/Iona match up.
  25. It would be a nice thing to do to the few people who actually showed up to watch the last 2, 1-11 seasons. Wistercill hired Bowden, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he's exhausted all the really really stupid things he can do, and going forward from 2012-on-out will make smart, fan- and team-friendly policies and decisions.
