Tracking the Opponents: 2025 Edition
Captain Kangaroo replied to catdaddyp's topic in Akron Zips Football
CMU is pounding BG 27-6, and Kent is up on Toledo 10-7 in the 2nd quarter. -
Can the Zips give me a reason to give my wife a freaking high five at some point during the game. That's all I ask. Zips games have been like a Nick Saban VRBO commercial for years... I can envision President Nemer looking at the Zips player: "As your President I have some rules. No post game showers longer than 2 minutes, we have a budget...the locker room isn't a spa." "The digits underneath "Akron" on the scoreboard...don't use them. We cut the scoreboard operator from the budget and can't change them from 0" "To the fans...no high fives, no fun...the kids aren't allowed on the endzone grass." "There's a great loge and food spread upstairs...don't touch that." "To anyone that wants Zips gear - the team shop opens at 3pm." Fans: "But it's 2:45 and I want to buy some hoodies". Nemer: "I know."

Or possibly just had their eligibility expire.

So you’re saying it’s Yankees/Red Sox?

Zips first Homecoming win since 2017? First back-to-back home wins since 2017? Zips are rollin'! 🙂 Miami always seems to beat the Zips by playing simple, straightforward, mistake-free football. And the Zips historically hand them the game with penalties and turnovers. I predict the Zips win if Finley tosses zero INT's. We'll lose by 7 points for every INT he tosses.

Sometimes you're happy when a player hits the portal. They did you a favor. Sometimes a good player with delusions of grandeur exhibits a low level of grace upon their departure. You don't want that kind of player back. Coaches are allowed to hold grudges when a player unceremoniously bolts for greener pastures. And the portal is filled with MAC-capable players. So if you leave, you accept the fact there could be a new kid in town that's assigned your jersey number the following week. So like its been said...it all depends upon the situation. Maybe Summers gets his scholarship back next semester? He seems like a bit of a goofball, but overall he's producing.

If Florida Atlantic, Syracuse, and Penn State couldn't prepare Johnson to be a starting QB, it's asking a lot for Joe to do it. 😁 Ruggow is a redshirt freshman, so one week of prep isn't going to give him a fighting chance of beating a team like Toledo. We ride or die with Finley. Assuming he's healthy I expect a win this weekend. If he isn't, we'll punt a lot and lose by 24.

The drums in the background during highlights are really annoying. At 80 years old, Joe Dunn is still The Man. Who's going to fill his shoes when he finally hangs up the mic?

He was injured towards the end of summer camp and I was told he might miss the entire season.

Duquesne beat OU a couple years ago. The seem to be a decent FCS team in 2025, playing #10 Lehigh pretty close last week. I hope the starters take the game seriously and build a nice lead that allows the guys further down the depth chart to get PT. But the Zips have a history of making FCS games much closer than they need to be.

My son gets married on the 21st so I will miss this one. On my wedding day 32 years ago the Zips were down 35-0 at the half to BG. I listened to the game on my Sony Walkman in the vestibule as the church filled up. Hoping for a better result in 2025. Here’s my niece, then a freshman at Akron, bottle-feeding him at the Acme-Zip game in 2001. Time flies…
