Rats. If the Zips played the Baha Mar Rumrunning Jerk Chickens it would have been so cool.š¢ -

I expect to be adding Baha Mar to this list in November. -

Try again. -
6ā 6ā, 340 lbs. Zips have had 3-4 serviceable OLs in any of the past few seasons. They should be 2-deep with options this year. We should have a legit team and a manageable schedule this season. Gotta at least go 6-6. Iām feeling 7-5, which is insanity. Iāll make my stone cold lock prediction after I see an August scrimmage or two.

Much better fit for him than Ole Miss. -
Class of '25 Verbal Commits

This is about as excited as I can get over a back up QB. He was a really impressive player out of HS. He will be a big improvement over Bullock. Strong, athletic kid. His dad is probably the most accomplished UA football player ever, if you look at the breadth of his overall football career. He played in the USFL and has coached high level positions at P5 and NFL staffs. His name usually pops up whenever the Zips decide they need a new HC (about every 3 years) He came to the Zips from Arizona State while I was at UA. He used to wear a burgundy corduroy jacket around campus that was swag from being on Arizona State's Rose Bowl team. Great player. To be eligible to play for the Zips in the fall I recall Mike Sr. had to take something insane like 24 credit hours over the summer, and he did it. -
Class of '25 Verbal Commits

Watch that YouTube video at your own risk. The "reporter" extends what should be a 1 minute and 30 second story into a 30 minute diatribe. Funny to see former Zip Zach Gibson trying to catch on with the Orange. Akron to Georgia Tech to Georgia State to Syracuse? -

I guess Purdue was out of scholarships? -
Time will tell. Guthrie was a joke that did nothing at UA but place an Arbyās blight on it that probably canāt be scrubbed away for a decade. And he bamboozled many into believing he was better than the sack of garbage he was. Even after he shirked his promises made to UA and bolted for Fordham some still make excuses for his profoundly forgettable tenure. The only positive from Guthrie is Fordham basketballās probation. Karma is a bitch. Go Goodrich. If you focus on getting the football program to respectability instead of joining the āI wouldnāt have built that stadiumā unimaginative losers, you will have piqued my interest. Weāll build off of that.

You sell yourself WAY short.

Probably best not to hold the event if itās just going to be a practice. The spring game is yet another casualty of the portal. Yet another cool thing about college football relegated to the history booksā¦

This is more a practice than a scrimmage. Not like the past 2 Saturdays so far. Bummer.

Saturday April 12th Practice/Scrimmage

Shor must be short for Shorts. Heās at the spring game but in his #75 jersey and sneakers. -
Tailgating with my wife, The Unluckiest Woman in the World, inside my pick up truck as the rain pours down in Lot 10.
-
I was just told - "Outside if the weather is ok. Inside if it's not." Since the practice facility is right next to the field, it can be a near-game-time decision. Postponement or cancellation isn't on the table.
-
I havenāt seen anything official, but if the weather is bad itāll be played indoors. Or maybe they postpone until tomorrow.
-
Nope. I'm a 3rd stringer tailgater, so it's full contact for me. I bought the Zips old t-shirt cannon on ebay for 50 bucks last month and have been taking shots to the head to toughen me up for the big event this evening. I've been training hard... @NWAkron has been my "Burgess Meredith".

With the volume of players leaving any D1 program nowadays, I don't know if the old spring game format can be used? There just aren't enough bodies to field 2 full squads until the summer? The "Open Practice" format is fine IMO. They scrimmage one's on one's and two's on two's, with full contact (except for QB). The offense just always goes right to left, and there's no punting (which is worthless in the Stiles Center anyhow). 47 yard FG drills follow TD's. F the weather. I'm tailgating in Lot 10 tonight (Open Practice Tailgating...not full blow tailgating).
-
Figures the one day out of the next 6 calling for rain is Friday. 𤬠If it holds true, I'll assume the scrimmage will be held in the Stiles Center. But it puts a damper on the tailgate scene.

5 star, huh? Who knew? -
The existing "system" is great for those Power schools that make the rules. Say there's someone you want on the Zips...take them. It's free. If the Boston Celtics want Enrique Freeman, they need to pay for him either with players, money and/or draft picks. That's how pro sports works. "College" is now professional. The MAC shouldn't be a free developmental league for the P5's. You want Nate Johnson, you pay for him.

Their absolute best chance to win a championship and play in the NCAA Tournament was to stay in Akron. Their absolute best chance to make between $500,000 and $1.5 million was to transfer to a P5 program. Compare Nate's income next season to any UA graduate walking across the stage this May. His income will dwarf the next closest earner by a factor of 10X. Hell...he'll be making $1,000,000 more than Enrique Freeman's made with the Pacers this season! Nate's the #1 '25 UA earner, and no one else is even close. Okonkwo and Tavari will be second and third on the list of Class of '25 UA earners. Then, some schmuck with a Polymer Science Doctorate comes in 4th, pulling in around $150,000. Playing time, championships, etc. do not factor into the transfer equation. As Don Olmeyer famously said: "The answer to all your questions is 'money'".
