Class of '21 Verbal Commits
Captain Kangaroo replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
HC Mike Junko at Upper Saint Clair is a former Zip. -
Hopefully there is a MAC tournament. If there isn’t, Toledo took a big step towards the NCAA tourney tonight.
-
Tough to mount a comeback if you can’t make a stop.

Ali Ali floats like a butterfly butterfly and stings like a bee bee!

Sounds like a jackhammer behind Dunn and the guy that replaced French during warmups.

Wynn pulls past Daily on the depth chart.

Be nice to get Freeman back for the 2nd half.
-
Softest rims in the MAC. Rims clank like someone dropped their toolbox.
-
I miss the Bracket Buster game. ?
-
It was a better conference then. Gary Trent was another 1st rounder from that era, as was Dave Jamerson. Devin Davis played for Coles, and in the NBA too. Keith McLeod had a nice NBA career. Antonio Gates was dominant, but played in the NFL as a pro. Grant Long and Carl Thomas had nice NBA careers (EMU). Tons of talent came to the JAR back then. Hipsher had it tough.? How many of those guys would have transferred to a P5 school had today's rules been in place?
-
Groce was COTY last year.
-
If we were just talking MAC, adding up his accomplishments at OU and Akron should be a fair comparison? Would Duquesne trade Groce for Dambrot today?
-
I know many hardcore Zips fans that would happily have traded Dambrot for Gary Waters, back in Gary's heyday.
-
In defense of the Zips Hoops Fan’s acumen, the poll shows 58 in favor of the Groce hire and 3 against. I see it is up to 60 in favor now? Voter fraud runs rampant even at ZipsNation!??

MAC Men’s Basketball - Catch-all Thread

The transfer portal giveth an the transfer portal taketh away... -
It sucks that we have such high-level teams...last year's team may have been our best ever...and we can't watch them in-person in consecutive MAC tourneys, nor the NCAA's. Caught Trimble's halftime interview last night. He said he was immediately contacted by Groce and staff when he entered the transfer portal and liked them. He then talked to players, and they all said they loved playing for the guy. This year's Zips team is definitely pulling for one-another. Great kids, talented and fun to watch. Unfortunately only on TV. ?

Who should we hire to replace Arth?
Captain Kangaroo replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Football
He made the decision to go with Freshman instead of transfers. When you have first and second year players all over the field...on the o-line...QB...secondary...D-line...and you're competing against programs with 22 and 23 year olds all over the field, you're going to be highly uncompetitive. Cards were stacked against him to start, with Bowden leaving the cupboard relatively bare...starting his first recruiting class after 85% of D-1 programs were completely done. University nimrods publicly stating they want to drop a division or two. Becoming a HC in an era where players can suddenly transfer whenever they please. #hisway will take 4 years to bear any real fruit. I hope we're at least competitive in MAC games next season. We need to get so much bigger, stronger, faster... -

Please keep the UC Bearcat football talk to a minimum. -
Remember in the “old days” when you’d be sweating out if players made grades or not? Now they all graduate in 3-4 years, and then get graduate degrees. Are “athletic-friendly” degrees and study tables hurting the Zips (and other programs)? The better the grades, the more likely a player is to transfer?

2020-21 Zips Women's Basketball

Seems like Dayton was their “Northwestern?” -
Why “Mr.” And “son”? Can’t a poster be female?
-
I thought Slate did a nice job on the last Zips game he called. He obviously knows the players and coaches in today’s MAC really well. And I liked his coach point of view. He’s no Michael Reghi, but who is??
-
The Zips have their highest ceiling when Dailey is on the floor. He’s just got to start playing to his potential.

Solid choice. Can't go wrong with the son of God. Probably a better choice than even Lee Owens? But is coaching the Zips football team worth coming back after 2000+ years of laying low? Coach Halford still seems like the likely choice.
