Navy would be sweet, but I don't think we would stand a chance against them.Who knows now that their coach moved on to greener pastures (Georgia Tech).

Because I'm too Lazy to Start One This Year
GoZips88 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Would that kinda be like "Can't State happens!" ? -
Cincy has us on their 2008 schedule at Akron.Kentucky has us on their 2008 schedule at Kentucky.Syracuse has us on their 2008 schedule at Syracuse.Army does not have any schedule info I could find for 2008 or beyond.I like next year's schedule. Kentucky and Syracuse are fair games and I like the games at home against Cincy and Army. Wisconsin is a tough open but helps minimize the football budget red ink.

Just to Get in the K.e.n.t-Hating Mood
GoZips88 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Wow ... looking at the Can't scoreboard reminds me of what a HOLE the MAC Center is. God I hate watching a game in that place.Hmmm ... let's see ... Ced (17), Dials (14), and Wood (17) combined for 51 of Akron's 66 points last year at Can't. Yep, I'd take that in a minute given the other 7 or 8 guys KD has available this year. I like our chances if our guards can play well and handle Can't defense. OU gave us trouble and I'm sure Can't will play right up on our guards as well. Not sure Wood has enough help to get loose for 17 like he did with Travis next to him. I know the Binghamton's and NC Whatever's are a necessary part of the schedule but THESE games are a blast. -
The Can't basketball schedule web page only shows the WNIR radio broadcast, no mention of TV like it does for the return game at Akron. Not a real good barometer since they also haven't updated their "Top Stories" on the basketball home page with the upcoming game against Akron (then again, neither have we ).

Interesting ... not as much chatter over there as I expected for such a big home game. I also sense a bit of unease/nervousness.If it's true, I'm glad to see those in the area who don't head to Can't for the game will get a chance to see it on Time Warner (most likely channel 23?).

(whispers) ***** I believe you may be right. I hope Quickzips is right ... overload on the "our-players-suck-and-here's-why" mojo to see if it works its magic at least one more time (Can't) *****
-
Starters scored something like 26 of tonights 80 points. Would love to see this same kind of effort Wednesday night in Can't.
-
Check with the Rowdies. They were selling GA tickets tonight at the BG game and seemed to have quite a few left when I bought my three.
-
I hope it works Wednesday night Quickzips! I thought we sucked tonight too! As much as I hate to, I'll be in Can't Wednesday night - GO ZIPS!
-
Only on MAC-Sports.com as an Internet feed at $7.95.... and the Akron at Can't game Wednesday night is not on MAC-Sports.com because ... ??? I wonder how they determine which games will be offered via their web service? Wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that there JUST might be some interest from those outside of the area (or those locally who can't get a ticket because of a possible sellout) in that game.

You could put the NICEST uniforms on the Can't players and it wouldn't matter ... you Can't polish a turd!

That was Willy. He is nothing short if legendary and has been that way for the Rowdies for the past 2-3 years. Is he the guy who dressed up like the blind ref? That was classic. That was him! Cracks me up every time he dons the ref shirt, glasses, and cane.

Bardo came in early and exited early. Any chance he's going to be able to contribute meaningful, productive minutes any time soon? I know he's considered by some to be a project but is he going to go down as a KD 'miss?' Quade didn't contribute much either. Is McKnight our only hope at this point for Wood?

That's why Bubba was a bad fit in Akron. If you are a Zips basketball player, you can't be a "minute monger." If getting 22 minutes per game instead of 32 minutes per game really bothers you, then you won't fit in @ UA. Bubba quit once Dials came on board. Unlike Ced, he didn't have the character to be a 6th man. Bubba can be a 3-point "freak," if you don't know his game. That's why he does well against non-MAC opponents. He catches them off-guard with his bizarre shot selection. And if left unmolested, he can hit those 27-footers with regularity. In MAC play every coach knows "Simply guard Bubba, and you shut him down." He is way less effective in MAC play than in OOC. Especially against teams that play D like the Zips. The two shots Bubba did make last night were a result of Linhart getting a little too far away while guarding him. Guard him and he becomes pretty poor at BOTH ends of the court.

I WANT to get as excited about our football program as I am about our basketball program I DO, I-do-I-do-I-do ...

Yeah, I was sorry to see Dakich go. He was fun to watch/heckle and we did pretty well against him in recent years. Sounds like Orr is starting to turn that ship around. Sure hope the Zips clear their heads of the OU game and can get focused for BG. Glad Tillman and Williams have left town - we didn't match up too well inside against them. I'm interested in hearing what others may know about BG - I know next-to-nothing about their current make-up.

I watched the replay a number of times after getting home from the game. Bubba takes selfish shot, does a spinning fall to the floor with the same theatrical flair Leon Williams displayed on his flop in the first half, hits the BACK of his head on the floor (see 'pencil neck/Rock of Gibraltar sized skull' referenced above), rolls over on his stomach holding the BACK of his head while he looks to see if he is going to get a call (NOT), and then lays there holding the FRONT of his head while everyone else shakes hands and celebrates/heads off the floor. Looks like Bubba continued to hold the front of his head (and somewhat covered his eyes in shame) as he walked off the floor. Bonk on the back of the head must have given him a headache radiating out the front of it is all I can figure. The guy goes 2-for-10 (for the umpteenth time) and has the kahonies to run off at the mouth ... nice job Bubba!

A little pre-game warm-up, especially for the Rowdies behind the baskets who can have the greatest impact (see above). Please complete each of the following ...1. "Bubba has _ point! <clap, clap, clap-clap-clap>"2. "WHO needs Bubba?!? Y_U need Bubba!"3. "SHOOT IT, B_BB_!"4. "c_ach! CO_CH! SIT DOWN _OACH!"5. "Y_u can't do th_t! <clap, clap, clap-clap-clap>"6. "Left, right, left, right, left right ... S_T DO_N!!!"7. "SCORE-b_ _ _d! S_ _ R _-board! ..."8. "O-ver-R_-t_d! <clap, clap, clap-clap-clap>9. "na-na-NAH-NAH...na-na-NAH-NAH...HEy, HE-EY ... G_ _D-BYE!"10. "I ..." "I BELIEVE ..." "I BELIEVE THAT ..." "I BELIEVE THAT WE ..." . . . "I BELIEVE THAT WE HAV_ W_N!" "I BELIEVE THAT WE HAV_ W_N!" "I BELIEVE THAT WE HAV_ W_N!"Please feel free to embellish as necessary.

I see you out there going through the motions during warm-ups and always wonder if you still think your decision to come to Akron was a good one. Thanks for the post letting the rest of us know you're enjoying your time here at Akron and are content to work hard in practice, in the classroom, and bide your time until your day to step out on the court comes. I don't think there is any doubt that KD isn't afraid to throw a freshman out there if he feels they're ready - see Steve McNeese. I wouldn't have any problem if you follow in his footsteps! The fans have certainly embraced him.No doubt, as everyone above me has said, we appreciate guys who WANT to be here, give 100% on the court (win or lose), and represent themselves and the University of Akron well in public. Yeah, we like to win and I'd like to think that good-character guys who hustle will produce their fair share of those.I'm sure I speak for others when I say I'd LOVE to see you out there helping to guard against OU's post play tonight and look forward to watching you play and contribute in the future. GO ZIPS!

It is a shame concerning the lack of school spirit at UA.I wish we had these when I was there. Was thinking the same thing Buckzip. This "work-for-a-living-to-support-family" thing is the only thing keeping me from stopping down to have a little fun, support KD and the players, and get pumped up for a pretty important game. I wonder why communication is so poor on campus? (I know, I know, see one of a gazillion other threads regarding current AD/AD staff ...)
-
I stand corrected OZoner. As Skip-Zip said, we took the East last year which was the stronger of the two divisions (and still is right now). I guess our tournament run made it FEEL like we were overall champs ... if not for the prayer. The lowly 'kron Zips await the Cats. Always a good game and I hope our string at home continues.

Thank you ZW.

As I recall the last time the Bobcats came to town in their fancy buses, Akron grabbed them by the throat like Zippy does in the "Thriller" piece and tied a nice bow-tie in the shape of an 'L' around their neck. We also did a pretty good number on Miami this year and have the only MAC win on the road so far. Let's see, what else ... we took Dayton to 2 overtimes, are the defending MAC champion, beat Can't State three times last year and lost the MAC tournament on a prayer. Yeah, I'd say it's quiet time for them right now. Different story when we head their way but not a whole lot of room to talk smack with them coming our way this week.
-
Yeah, I agree Z-Pouch. It's the only game this year with an oddball time. I hope as many of the regulars as possible decide to make the effort to attend, even if it is only until half-time. Help support the Zips to a nice half-time cushion and let them finish it out. I'm a firm believer that a big, raucous crowd can really make a difference. Though only 1500 were able to make it to the OU game last year, the ones who were there were loud and directed enough of their energy towards Bubba that Bubba and the Bubbacats just wilted away. Nice blow-out win at home and I wouldn't mind seeing that repeated again this year in front of whatever the ESPNU crowd happens to be.
