  1. What a shame ... the right thing to do is walk away from coaching but what a great guy/alum to have on the sideline. Get well soon Charlie.
  2. Agree but I want NIU (as others have said, they were on fiya and that won't happen again). Also would like to see Can't exit early. Should be interesting to see how the Can't bracket shakes itself out. While I'm on "hopium," would like to see WMU go home tomorrow too.
  3. GO BUTLER! Gary Waters and Cleveland State suck Akron Rubber Bowl trough water ... no room in the road schedule this year for Akron my .......
  4. Insinuating Moron #519 logged in and on duty, SIR!
  5. The zebras were off from the opening tip - the ball was tipped on the way up and they missed that one too.And here I thought I was the only one who saw that. Three zebras and NONE had the kahonies to whistle that one dead? Not complaining - just recognizing the obvious.
  6. I HATE when that happens!
  7. I don't think Can't and OU are the teams we want to model our recruiting efforts against. Those teams play a very high risk high reward game of recruiting JUCO's and players with questionable pasts and attitudes. If they can consistently get those guys in, keep them eligible and get them integrated into the system you can be successful for long periods of time (Can't). If they struggle to get guys to campus, can't keep them eligible or focused on the game of basketball and can't integrate them into their program they end up being a decent individual team that can't play together and frustrates their fans (Ohio).I'll take KD's method of recruiting over that kind of approach any day. You look at what he's done this year with what appears to be a load of talented kids who are good both on and off the court and the very real chance we have of recruiting a kid like Zeke Marshall for next years class and I think you're starting to see it pay off.I saw Zeke and his family with Jeff Boals before the game in the lobby. Sounds like a number of other recruits attended the game as well. Any of you have any updated info on our chances of landing Zeke or any of the others who attended yesterday's game? Wonder what Zeke and the rest thought when LeBron showed up and sat on the floor just to their right.Nice to see Romeo and Matt Futch at the game.
  8. Why couldn't you be my dad when I was growing up? It is times like these that I love the fact that I get up at 1:30 in the morning to leave work by noon. God Bless the Day Game! (At least for me). I don't know what student turnout will be like for the first game.Yeah, bad time for the students. I hope a good many of them can work the game in.My daughter had an "appointment" a couple of years ago to go with dad to a day tourney game. Looks like it is my son's turn this year. Not a fan of the tourney but if the MAC is going to play on, I didn't live and die with our Zips all year long to miss out on extended play. Take care of business in the classroom and I'll make room once in a great while for an "appointment" during last-period-of-the-day language arts. My version of pay-to-play. By the way, if I had been your dad, I would have made you cut your blue hair! Nah, not really. Glad to see you and LeBron got floor seats yesterday!
  9. ... they lost IN RICHMOND (semi-home game) to boot!Really don't care one way or another what happened to VCU but it hits a hot button with me ... you play a long conference schedule playing teams home and away and your dancing shoes are on the line in what often amounts to a "who's hot, let's-make-a-little-more-money" conference tournament. In the case of the MAC, if there really needs to be additional play, let the two division champs go at it and let that be the end of it. Can't stand seeing a "hot" team sneak up and snag a bid. IMHO, the regular season should be the test to determine who represents the MAC, not a "who's got the legs/breaks" in a 4-day tournament. Can of worms? Whatever ... not a fan of the tourney.
  10. Just got the OK for a half-day from the boss, will yank one of my kids from school at 1PM ("appointment"), and will be heading to Cleveland for the first of HOPEFULLY three more games this week. As I said in another post - love the bracket. Let's Go ZIPS!
  11. I would not call that a layup, that would be a dunk and Goddard went right up with him, weak and hopeless would of been just stand there and watch it. Again Goddard/Milum had nothing to do with the 1-20 at the three. Don't blame two guys for the teams shooting the whole night. Seriously did they make turnovers, miss shots, no, hell they didn't take a shot. Look elsewhere, I know you are trying to blame something, someone, but this game was over before it began. If I remember right, Milum air-balled a wide open three attempt, was yanked and never seen again. Pretty poor senior year overall for Milum - too bad since there seemed to be a fair amount of optimism over the years about his POTENTIAL to develop into a pretty good player. MIA in really big games.Dambrot has class and started the five seniors AND left them in beyond the first opportunity he had to sub for one or more of them. A great way to thank those guys for all of the effort they've given over the years in support of the program. That being said, I have no class and would have started the five guys who would have given me the best chance to win on our home court against our arch rival and best team in the MAC. The fans ultimately got their money's worth but it's too bad we dug ourselves such a deep hole. Don't know if playing our true starters those first few minutes of the game would have changed much overall but I wouldn't have taken any chances in a game like that. I know the game didn't matter a lick as we head to Cleveland but it's Can't on our court and I would have done all I could to get the 'W.' Signed "Classless."Love our bracket and the new season that begins Thursday afternoon - GO ZIPS !!!!!!!!!
  12. I hope the wording of my post didn't confuse you. French said DIALS saluted the OZone. I had the word 'he' in there and that would have referred back to French himself (whoops!). I modified my post.I've often wondered how French feels when calling Akron/OU football and basketball. I love that he is a homer and wears his emotions on his sleeve. As zip37 said, OU may have just been his meal ticket. Sounds like French's daughter is now at OU though. I wonder if she's also majoring in something Akron doesn't offer or whether she's just another OU party animal?
  13. Amen. End-of-game free throws are S-O important and he's about as dependable as they come. Frenchy said Dials saluted the OZone with his arms in the shape of an 'O' over his head before heading off the floor -
  14. ... and we've done our part to help Ohio and Miami struggle for that 4 seed! I haven't looked at the OU/Sweaters/CMU situation - anyone care to break down how things could shake out with one game to play? Frenchy just mentioned in post-game that if Ohio wins at home on Sunday, they get the 4th seed. No mention of what happens if they lose ...
  15. Really feels good right now heading into the Can't game doesn't it?! Fantastic win tonight and stretch run so far. Would have never thunk it, especially with Wood's knee situation and Ced working through his own problems. LOVE how the bracket has set up ... Can't 1, Western 2, and Akron 3.Sunday can't get her soon enough and then it's on to the tourney! GO ZIPS!!!!!
  16. I believe Frenchy just said that Akron has wrapped up the 3rd seed regardless of what happens to everyone else the rest of the way. Really cool how things seem to be setting up for us in the tourney bracket. With Western losing tonight, Can't secures 1, Western has 2, and we have 3. NICE win for Akron tonight!
  17. Uh oh ... may be too late. Call Adam at the ticket office and ask him. Zippy passes are only good when ticket supplies aren't a problem. I don't think they'll be honored on Sunday. Call Adam and see what he can do at this point.
  18. I want the win over Can't at the JAR next Sunday night. If that means playing them in the semis in Cleveland so be it. No way do I want that team of clowns to win at our place. Make it a no-doubter to remind them of the crap we witnessed at Can't and set the stage for another match in Cleveland. The loss at BG may have helped plant a seed of doubt in their minds ... I want to pour a little water (insert image of ornery Akron guy taking a leak on the Can't logo here) on that seed heading into the tournament.
  19. Yeah, a win over Can't on the 9th and a 3-seed works for me. Can't loss at BG today certainly makes the stretch run a little more interesting!
  20. I will be stealing a trough from the bathroom after the final game at the Bowl. Don't try to stop me.STOP you?!? Wouldn't surprise me if there are enough of us standing around to carry you out of the Bowl in the thing! Will look like something straight out of Animal House! Blue hair, sunglasses and Hawaiian shirt are a must!
  21. A co-worker of mine has a friend who works at Comdoc. Sounds like Comdoc is handing out a bunch of freebies. I now have four of them and plan to beat the bushes to find four warm bodies to use them. Not gonna tell them they have to sit on a wood plank for 2 hours, possibly look through glass and a rail to see the game, or step on people to get out of the GA section to go to the restroom or purchase a bottle of $2.75 water.
  22. If Cinci is a sellout, the Rubber Bowl will collapse into the hillside.I do hope they do some engineering studies/stress tests to see how many people can safely sit on each of the remaining bleacher seats and simultaneously use the troughs. Would love to see a lot of people show up for the Rubber Bowl Nostalgia Tour. I wonder if Mother Nature will grant us decent weather to enjoy the last 5 or so dates out there. Hope so.
  23. Good to see a former Zip remain gainfully employed in the NFL. Hope he can keep his nose clean.
  24. I wonder if they could also set up real-time seismic readings to measure/monitor the crumbling/gradual implosion of the Rubber Bowl? We could watch one continue to die as we watch the other begin to come to life!
  25. The answer is obvious -- "Win."With our existing schedule, if we beat Winthrop, Dayton, Ken.t and VCU, we're in the at-large discussion and knocking on the door of a Top 25 ranking. Since we lost all those games, we're relegated to winning the MAC tourney as our sole opportunity for post-season play. That, or maybe that new 16-team, NIT "leftover" tourney might invite us.Oh, but Captain, we came O-H S-O CLOSE in all of those games! We've been consistently "Oh so close" the last few years and even farther back than that I suppose (Xavier, Michigan, ...) - shouldn't that count for something?!? :rolleyes:You have to win something first? BLAH!
