What a TERRIBLE final 2.7 seconds of the half. UNBELIEVABLE ... chucking the ball out of bounds giving the Eagles the ball out under their basket. Linhart commits a foul before they inbound. 2 made Eagle free throws ... BONEHEAD plays.

Interesting. The manager at Cleats in Fairlawn worked on it for a while and finally came to the conclusion that a feed was not available. That must have changed sometime after 2:30 this afternoon when I called to get the news. I hope whoever you spoke with is correct! I think I'm going to try the $4.95 webcast. It would cost me that plus food and tip to watch it at Cleats anyway. Thanks for the web info everyone!

uakronkid - What format were you using that caused them to delete the names again? I know to stay away from names ending in numbers that run consecutively. Just curious so I don't have the same happen again as well.

Zippy's lead is down to around 1500 votes as of about 3:30 this afternoon and it continues to slowly drop. She had a lead of around 2500 votes at one point. I think 3-against-1 is in full swing. Don't forget to post a few (hundred) votes this evening while listening to the Akron/Winthrop game.

I just got off of the phone with Cleats in Fairlawn. They will NOT be carrying the game - could not find a feed anywhere. Oh well ...

Wow ... didn't think Zippy would be up by almost 2500 votes 24 hours into this week's voting! Goldy is up by a little over 1500 on Hairy Dawg.It is a pick-your-poison match-up between Georgia and Minnesota. As I said many weeks back, Minnesota's size (54,000 students; 4th in the nation) scares me. BIG alumni base as well one would think. (Knock on wood ...) It's going to be interesting next week with no vote totals showing! GO ZIPPY!

Sounds like Connecticut may have been a tall order for Akron even had they advanced beyond USF ...Men's Soccer Tames Bulls In NCAA Third Round, 5-0STORRS, Conn. (December 2, 2007) - O'Brian White (Scarborough, Ontario) assured his place in the UConn record books by scoring three goals and leading the third-seeded University of Connecticut men's soccer team to a 5-0 win over South Florida in the NCAA Third Round Sunday afternoon at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. With the win, UConn (20-2-1) advances to the Quarterfinals to face 11th-seeded Virginia Tech Saturday, Dec. 8, at 1:00 p.m. in Storrs.

Dambrot quotes from the Wyoming article ..."You need to put more people in the stands than we're putting in the stands. If we're ever going to take the next step program-wise, we need to fill the arena, otherwise we'll always be a mid-level, mid-level."What'd we have, 2,500 that's pitiful If you want free tickets, I'll give you damn free tickets, I don't care. Bring every kid in the world here."It's cheap entertainment. I'll let you in the locker room, I'll sign autographs with you, I'll buy you a hot dog. I'll do anything to fill the arena, except something illegal."I know where the Ohio A&M football fans were ... home watching Pitt/WVU and Missouri/Oklahoma. Figuring out a way to get Akron-area fans out to the JAR when there are so many sports and entertainment opportunities in northeastern Ohio is like . I wonder if free tickets is about the only way you're going to do it? It'll put butts in seats, sell a few more concessions (doubling the number of concessions staff from 2 to 4 I hope), and POSSIBLY get a few more people to hop on the KD/men's BB bandwagon. It may upset those who have already purchased tickets but why not pack the place with freebies for the first month of the MAC season? Again, what to do ... ... good product and the place is only half-filled.

I'd be pushing dirt right up to the edge of the Odd Corner. Do all you can until things work themselves out.

The Mascot Challenge web site indicates that vote totals will not be displayed in the FINAL round - nothing there about the not displaying it in the first two rounds of the playoffs. I wondered why we weren't seeing a running vote total and just assumed that they meant for ALL playoff rounds. If you to to the web site and vote, notice that a running vote count is now being displayed. Cool! That will come in handy in rounds 1 and 2 as we try to control our destiny. All out war with the unknown in the final round. My votes this round: OTTO and COCKY.

Turner Gill turns around Buffalo and could be gone!!
GoZips88 replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
On Frenchy's sports round-up on WNIR this morning, he mentioned that Buffalo had given Nebraska permission to talk to Gill.I would agree - seems like Nebraska is a BIG step up for someone (Gill) with only a couple of years of experience at a MAC school. Good luck Nebraska ... I hope you make the right decision this time! -
NOW I see how James Madison ran the table a few years ago only to be defeated in the playoffs. Notice as you continue voting this week that totals are NOT displayed! We won't have any idea how we're doing next week in the semi-finals or (hopefully) the week after in the finals. We absolutely cannot slack off next week or the week after if we want to win. We're all going to have to vote early and often EACH DAY to give ourselves the best chance of sending Zippy to Orlando in January. My guess is we're voting for Otto from Syracuse (enrollment is only 16,000) and Cocky from South Carolina (we want to get Minnesota outta there). Any thoughts?

GOT'EM! Zippy goes 11-0!Looks like Monte missed the top 6 by 50 votes. Cosmo is also out of the running!Great job everyone. Cosmo and Hairy were surging late.

It's 7:30PM Sunday night, , and Zippy is now UP by 2. BIG push needed by everyone tomorrow morning before 9AM and then we get a week off. Sure would like to see Zippy run the table. GO ZIPPY!

Zippy is down by 163 at 6:12PM. Definitely time to get to work on our end.

Tied at 17060 as of 8:30AM Sunday. Bleacher's right ... time for a big Sunday-into-Monday-morning push.

Mickey Matthews page on JMU web siteIt's going to be interesting to see if this is anything more than rumor at this point. :blink:A couple of posts on Rasor's blog ...# OnTheBeat Says:November 23rd, 2007 at 9:42 pmJD Brookhart will be released from his contract within the next 48 hours. I heard this from a great source and also from several of the players who were not too happy about it. Seems as if JD was told via phone after the game and that the assistants have been calling players this afternoon and telling them there is a team meeting set for 10 am on Saturday morning at the Field House.Mack has already identified his new coach, former UTEP assistant and current James Madison Head Coach Mickey Matthews.Under Matthews’s leadership, James Madison achieved a Division 1AA national football championship in 2004. His overall record as a head coach at JMU is 60-41.[1]Matthews started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Lamar High School, in Texas, working with offensive backs. During the 1978 season, he joined Kansas State University, as an assistant coach. During the 1980-1981 seasons, he served as a defensive coordinator of Southwest Texas State. From 1982-1985, he became an assistant coach at UTEP. In the following 1986 season, he worked at the University of Houston as a defensive backs coach. In the 1987 season, he held that same position, only at Texas Christian University. During the 1988 and 1989 seasons, he coached at Southwest Texas State. From 1990-1995, he served as the assistant head coach at Marshall University. From 1996-1998, he became an assistant coach at the University of Georgia. Finally, since 1999, he has been the head coach at James Madison University.# mrasor Says:November 23rd, 2007 at 10:38 pmInteresting. I’m doing some work to validate/discredit that.

Looks like the other five contests this week are well on their way to being over early. We've become the "featured" match-up and I would venture to say we have Hairy Dawg right where we want him. Goofy week with the holiday and it's probably going to be another one of those where if we stay close heading into the weekend, we can put on a big push over the weekend and especially Monday morning to close things out. We all need to stay vigilant and keep an eye on the spread. We were up over 200 earlier today but have gone back down by less than 100 at the moment. A good tune-up as we head into the play-offs. Come on everyone, let's hit our free throws down the stretch and finish with the perfect 11-0 mark. Go Zippy!
-
Have to admit that I've been coasting while others have been keeping Zippy way out ahead the last 2-3 weeks. Time to get off my duff and help out again. The picks listed above sound good to me. Time to crank it up!
-
And exactly how can he do any worse than we've seen recently??? Unless he has shown the coaches something this fall that absolutely says "Keep this guy on the bench," I agree that he's worth a look this week against CMU. I've seen enough of both CJ7 and CJ11 to NOT want to see any more this year and beyond. I'll be planted in the Rubber Bowl for 4 quarters this Friday and would love to see the coaches go another direction for the finale.
-
I'm in the camp of those who think we'll get the first round bye and 2nd round home game.

What a great day - Zips soccer advances to the NCAA tournament and the Zips go 2-1 out in the middle of nowhere to start the season. CMU in football on Friday and Binghamton next Saturday night to get things going at home - looking forward to the short work week! Way to go Zips!
