Zippy is still up by 1389!
-
14000 bowl games and we won't be sniffing any of them ...
-
Same on this end. FORTUNATELY, we're actually getting a clear signal on the AM band so I'm able to listen on the radio. I hope they get the Internet feed working.

Cleveland State "university" is a piece of crap. I HATE politicians ... ESPECIALLY the Fingerhut variety. INCREDIBLE urge to hurl right now. Screw you Fingerhut!

Nice find, Dr. Z! You know, all of this lamenting about how the MAC is down or at best medicore in football this year has a flip side to it. With no dominant teams, this leaves more wins to spread around the conference. Just look at that Bottom 10 list. I ask you this, when is the last time the MAC had only ONE team (Northern Illinois) in the Bottom 10, particularly at this late in the season? I know, it's pretty sad, but I look at it as a minor victory of sorts. My son and I look at that each week as well. Only one team from the MAC in the ESPN Bottom 10, none on the waiting list and we're not "featured" as the pillow fight of the week!

Thanks K-Roo. That makes my head hurt! It SURE would be nice to just roll through the MAC East games one of these days so we don't have to play our way through a mine field and look for a lot of help getting through it to boot.

A full-court press is being applied to Cocky (is somebody skipping a class or two on a Friday?) ... it's 12:38, , and Zippy is up on Cocky by over 900 votes! Sure would be nice if we could hold onto that lead heading into the weekend. Hmmm ... I wonder if voters at the other schools are starting to figure out that it's going to be tough to catch Zippy so why not vote for her to knock down whoever she is facing? LOTS of 3-3 mascots, including Cocky, and I know that is how I'd be voting right now if I were 3-3.

 Rat farts! I've been caught! I've been keeping a close eye on Zippy's status and have been voting less than in the past. Will try to crank it up a bit tonight and tomorrow night. Will definitely reach quota from noon-to-four on Saturday (listening to Zip pre-game and the actual game itself) and one-to-four on Sunday (Browns on TV). This week seems to be par for the course ... Zippy goes up and then back down. Seems to be trailing a bit more often this week but not by a whole lot. Our strength has been the weekend and a nice finish Monday morning. I haven't watched how Cocky does late in the game so that is somewhat of a wild card.Still voting more than the average voter!

Brutal is right! In hindsight, we had Monte all the way ...I believe Duke Dog from James Madison went a perfect 11-0 during the "regular season" in 2004 only to lose to Monte in the playoffs. I agree - it would be fun to run the table completely and then do the same in the playoffs. It sure would SUCK to have a great regular season only to have a let-down in the playoffs (<cough> Indians <cough>).

Here's how I see us voting this week. Chime in if any of you see it differently ...JOE BRUIN over OttoBoth are 3-3 but Otto has almost 3000 more votes overall and actually leads Zippy by a few in the overall vote count.COSMO over Big RedBoth are 3-3 but Cosmo has about 2500 fewer votes than Big Red.SEYMOUR over Hairy DawgPillow fight of the week. Both are 2-4 and Seymour has about 2700 fewer votes.ZIPPY over Cocky (3-3)Should be another good one this week. VOTE ALL WEEK LONG EVERYONE!!!CAVMAN over Goldy GopherBoth are 3-3 but Cavman has 5000 fewer votes.MONTE over HokiebirdMonte is 2-4. Hokiebird is 3-3. It's OK now to vote for our boy Monte.

What a crazy day. Indians are about to start play and Zippy has erased a 24-vote deficit and is now up by 100 or so. It seems as though this is now a two horse race ... Hokiebird has REALLY faded, trailing by 622 after leading earlier today. It appears that Zippy and Monte voters are left to beat each other up and that both groups are pounding Hokiebird in the process. 12-1/2 hours to go ... Go Zippy ... Go TRIBE!
-
Zippy's lead is down to ONE. Time to crank the voting machines back up again!
-
It's about 7:30PM and Zippy is only up by 13 votes. He was up by nearly 70 about an hour ago. Monte is indeed a tough opponent. Voting during the Indians game is VERY important given the 2-hour time difference between us and Missoula. That time difference should work to our advantage tomorrow morning assuming we don't let things get too far out of hand overnight. HUGE run today. Zippy was down by almost 540 votes early this morning and has stormed back (thank you uakronkid).13-1/2 hours to go ... LET'S FINISH STRONG ONCE AGAIN!!!
-
Doing lots of yard work today but putting in 20 votes each time I come in to take a break. Down to 220 now. Plenty of time yet today to continue to close the gap. We were down by 530 when I got up this morning. Hopefully the Indians will hold my attention the full 9 innings tonight so I can sit here and vote all night long. Keep it up everyone!

11:07PM Zippy down by 340 ... not looking good but we have time tomorrow and Monday morning. Time to really crank it up and get out the vote. Bleacher - time for another mention of Zippy on Channel 3 Monday morning. I'm going to e-mail Shannon over at 94.9 FM. She and her morning co-host have been great about mentioning Zippy. We've blown away large deficits in a hurry before and it is time to do it again tomorrow. Come on folks - vote and mention it to everyone you know. There is still time. Vote like crazy during the Indians game tomorrow night ( ).

Ohio College Restructuring

This whole thing is political BULLCRAP! Circle the wagons is right ... they are NOT going to take my University away. Instead of working on a MUCH bigger problem like how to fund K-12 without properly taxes, Strickland and his pal Fingerhut are working on something like this. I said it before and I'll say it again, if CSWho? can't stand on it's own two feet, make IT a branch of either Can't or Akron or let it die. Has Fingerhut seen what Akron looks like and has to offer these days? Don't go creating a 'make work' or 'revitalization' project and in the process wipe out what we've got here in Akron. I can't STAND these %#*@^*% politicians! -
Looks like Adam DiMichele, Temple's talented QB, just broke his leg (certainly didn't look good watching it on TV). We'll see if Temple can continue to compete against Miami but that is a huge loss.uakronkid - Zippy is only up by a handful of votes right now ... WHY are you creating new topics instead of voting for Zippy?!?

Early bird (while I'm eating breakfast at 5AM) gets the vote!

I can't wait for the Indians game tonight - PLENTY of time to vote while watching the game. I've already reserved my computer (darn kids ...) at home tonight from 8:15 on.

if zippy loses this week, should we get a new mascot?
GoZips88 replied to zippyrifle32's topic in Akron Zips Football
Zippy is now UP by about 200 votes as of 9:25AM this morning.I was REALLY down on Zippy early in the week when she went down almost immediately by 900 votes. I was beginning to have my doubts as to whether Zippy is the right mascot to take us to the next level. Given the resiliency she and her followers have shown the last couple of days, I'm leaning towards voting to KEEP Zippy at least one more week even if she ends up losing this week. Her opponent this week is Monte ... a two-time Capital One Bowl champion and very worthy opponent. On the other hand, U of Montana IS a Div. I-AA (or whatever the hell they call it now) program. Let's give Zippy the benefit of the doubt and at least one more week. Cocky is up next out of the SEC. If Zippy stumbles again, I say she just might be outta here! -
Did anyone happen to notice whether our midfielders and especially our forwards look to Caleb and the other coaches on the sideline for guidance before going on the attack? Way to go Zips!

I work with a guy who absolutely LOVED playing high school football (lineman on both sides of the ball). He is now in his 50s and deals with a lot of knee pain daily. He's probably heading towards a double knee replacement at some point (he's on the heavier side and probably isn't a candidate for less-invasive partial knee replacement). He would be the first person to tell Mackey that the rest of his life is more important than another year of football. My work friend and I vote 'NO - Do NOT try to return.'My father-in-law is an avid Syracuse fan and loves watching football. He vowed this year to stop watching pro and college football. He feels guys have gotten too big and the game too fast for the human body. Way too many injuries in his opinion.

11:30AM on Tuesday and down by just over 500. Not bad considering it was approaching 900 last night. Nice push overnight and this morning. I think we can pull it off again if we can keep the deficit down to 500-800 heading into the weekend. We seem to do well on weekends and Monday mornings. Everyone has to keep voting everyday this week - they ARE out to get us.

Will the football team be ready by September 2009 or will there be further delays?!?
